Abstract

Introduction: Orphanages represent institutional care settings where children are vulnerable to health problems due to inadequate Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (CHLB), potentially leading to respiratory infections, diarrhea, tuberculosis, anemia, ascariasis, and dental caries. This community empowerment program aimed to improve children’s knowledge, attitudes, and practices related to CHLB through the implementation of an educative literacy corner combined with interactive health education. Methods: This community service involved 25 children at Baabur Rahmah Orphanage, Sidoarjo, conducted from July to October 2025. The program consisted of setting up a literacy corner integrated with interactive health education sessions delivered in four structured phases. The changes of knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding CHLB in children were measured using structured questionnaires before and after community service. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test to evaluate effect the program. Results: The educative literacy corner combined with health education significantly improved children’s knowledge (p = 0.000), attitudes (p = 0.008), and practices (p = 0.000) related to CHLB. Conclusion: The combination of an educative literacy corner and interactive health education is an effective strategy to improve children’s knowledge, attitude, and practice of CHLB. This community service provides a sustainable approach to promoting healthy behaviors while simultaneously fostering literacy culture among children in institutional care settings. Abstract

Introduction: Children with Special Needs at SLB Negeri Keleyan Bangkalan experience various challenges such as communication difficulties, emotional regulation issues, low self-confidence, and limited opportunities for self-expression. This study aims to develop and implement an expressive and therapeutic learning medium to improve emotional expression, emotional regulation, self-confidence, and learning motivation. Methods: The community service program SLIME ASA (Sensory Learning to Improve Exploration and Aspiration) was developed as a sensory therapy intervention using slime to stimulate sensory exploration, imagination, emotional expression, and motivation. The program design used a pre–post observational approach. The subjects of this program were all Children with Special Needs at SLB Negeri Keleyan Bangkalan, totaling 51 students. The variables measured in this program included activity motoric, participation rate, and parental support. Data were collected using observation sheets and analysis by comparing the pre- and post-observation. Results: A significant improvement in participation, increasing from 25% to 83.30%, and fine motor skills in the “very good” category improved from 43% to 52.94%. The children showed greater confidence, positive emotional expression, and willingness to perform in front of others. Conclusion: The SLIME ASA program provides tactile, proprioceptive, and visual input that help children recognize, manage, and express their emotions more adaptively. The play-based therapy approach encourages active engagement, creative exploration, and experiences of small successes, which gradually strengthen children’s self-confidence. Social interaction during the activities also contributes to improving communication skills, emotional regulation, and interpersonal relationships. Abstract

Introduction: The TB-sensitive communities emphasize the role of cadres as the spearhead of TB prevention and control at the community level. Capacity building for cadres through training is a crucial strategy to strengthen their knowledge and preparedness for early detection and education. This activity aims to analyze the impact of cadre training on the knowledge and preparedness of TB cadres in the Pucang Sawit Community Health Center area in Surakarta. Methods: The activity carried out at Pucang Sawit Community Health Center, Surakarta involved 40 cadres obtained through purposive sampling. The cadre training intervention combines basic education about TB and simulation of the use of flipcharts as a medium for counseling. The training includes the provision of interactive materials, flipchart demonstrations, and role plays to practice communication and education techniques to the community. Evaluation of knowledge and preparedness is carried out through a pretest–posttest using a questionnaire. Results: The training successfully improved cadre knowledge, the majority of respondents were in the medium category (55%) to the majority of respondents being in the high category (72.5%). There was an increase in the preparedness of cadres from the majority being in the poor prepared category (47.5%) to the majority of cadres being in the good category (62.5%). Conclusion: The training contributed to improving cadres’ literacy and preparedness to carry out their TB education and monitoring roles in the community. Preparedness classifications indicated that more than half of the cadres had acquired the basic skills to carry out community tasks, although the proportion who were not ready still required further mentoring. Abstract

Introduction: Hypertension remains a major public health problem in Indonesia, particularly in urban communities, and is strongly associated with unhealthy dietary patterns. The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet has been proven effective in lowering blood pressure and improving cardiovascular health, yet community awareness and practical application remain limited. This community service program aimed to improve knowledge related healthy dietary pattern. Methods: The activity was conducted using a participatory approach, consisting of structured nutrition education, interactive discussions, and hands-on workshops on DASH diet implementation. This study used a pre-experimental one-group pre–post design involving 18 participants. Participants included adult community members of Rangkah area. Educational materials focused on principles of the DASH diet, food selection, portion control, and daily meal planning. Knowledge about healthy dietary pattern improvement was evaluated using pre- and post-education questionnaires, while participant engagement and feedback were qualitatively assessed. Mean pre and post test was statistically analysis using paired t-test with significant level of p<0,05. Results: A total of 18 community participants actively attended the program. Post-intervention evaluation demonstrated an increase in participants’ understanding of DASH diet principles and healthy food choices. Statistic result showed increasing of mean test result from 75,0 ± 26,18 at pre test info 84,4 ± 19,47 at post test (12,5% improvement) and was statistically significant (p=0,025). Participants showed high enthusiasm during the workshop sessions and reported improved confidence in applying DASH diet recommendations in daily life. Conclusion: DASH diet education combined with interactive workshops effectively enhanced community knowledge and practical skills in hypertension prevention. Collaboration between academic institutions, medical residency programs, and community organizations plays an important role in strengthening community-based nutrition education and promoting sustainable healthy lifestyle behaviors. Abstract

Introduction: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is a life-threatening emergency with a high mortality rate, often associated with delays in bystander response. Limited knowledge and inadequate skills in Basic Life Support among the general public remain major barriers to improving survival outcomes. Educational approaches using simple and practical media, such as CPR mats, have the potential to enhance community readiness in responding to cardiac emergencies. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of community members in performing BLS through the use of innovative CPR mat-based training. Methods: This community-based activity was conducted in Sukolilo Village in collaboration with the local Community Health Center (Puskesmas), involving 33 participants consisting of health cadres, PKK members (Family Welfare Movement), and community representatives. The intervention included structured education and simulation-based BLS training using a CPR mat. Program effectiveness was evaluated using pre- and post-tests, and the data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: Participants’ knowledge significantly improved after the intervention (p < 0.001), with the mean score increasing from 55.63 to 81.25 and a shift from predominantly poor to good knowledge levels. Practical BLS skills also showed significant improvement based on simulation assessments (p < 0.001), indicating enhanced ability to perform key procedures. Conclusion: CPR mat-based BLS education is effective in enhancing community knowledge, skills, and readiness to act as first responders in cases of cardiac arrest. This approach has strong potential to be implemented as a community-based strategy to improve early emergency response and survival outcomes.
