Abstract

Introduction: Stunting, characterized by impaired child growth, results from multiple factors including inadequate nutrition. Fresh cow's milk, rich in essential nutrients, offers a viable solution. Currently, fresh cow's milk products are deposited to BUMDES with a relatively low purchase price and limited consumer market reach. Currently, fresh milk is only stored and sold through the village-owned enterprise (BUMDES), but demand is low due to its smell and taste, as well as the lack of public awareness about the benefits of fresh milk. Therefore, a high-nutrient processed fresh milk product has been developed as an alternative dessert to support the prevention of stunting in children. Methods: Counseling was conducted on the benefits, processing, and proper storage of fresh milk, as well as a demonstration of making Silky Strawberry Milk. The methods used were lectures and a hands-on demonstration of Silky Strawberry Milk production. The activity was carried out on March 16, 2024, at the Blimbing Village, Kediri Regency. It was attended by 28 participants. Pretest-posttest evaluations confirmed significant improvement in participants' knowledge regarding milk nutrition and processing methods. Results: Silky Strawberry Milk was distributed to participants. They loved its delicious taste, fresh aroma, and attractive colour. This product is expected to increase milk consumption to prevent stunting through better nutrition. Conclusion: Silky Strawberry Milk has been well received by the public due to its delicious taste and attractive appearance. This product has the potential to increase milk consumption and prevent stunting through improved child nutrition.

Abstract

Introduction: Cardiometabolic diseases, particularly hypertension and diabetes, are rising in prevalence among adults in semi-urban regions of low- and middle-income countries. Early detection at the community level is essential to reduce complications and promote preventive action. This study aimed to identify early indicators of cardiometabolic risk through a nurse-led community health screening in Bukittinggi, West Sumatra, Indonesia. Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional design was conducted as a one-day service-learning outreach involving nursing faculty, undergraduate students, local health cadres, and community leaders. Adults aged 18 years and above were recruited using consecutive sampling. Preparations included coordination with local stakeholders to ensure community participation. Screening activities comprised blood pressure measurement, random blood glucose testing, body mass index (BMI) calculation, and structured interviews on behavioral risk factors. A total of 80 participants completed the screening, and data were analyzed descriptively. Results: 80 participants, 64 (80%) had elevated blood pressure ranging from prehypertension to hypertensive crisis, 21 (26.3%) showed abnormal blood glucose levels consistent with prediabetes or diabetes, and 42 (52.5%) were overweight or obese. Additionally, 77 participants (96.3%) reported low physical activity and inadequate fruit and vegetable intake, indicating a high clustering of modifiable cardiometabolic risk factors. Conclusion: This study highlights the burden of modifiable cardiometabolic risks in semi-urban communities and demonstrates the feasibility of nurse- and community-led health screenings for early detection. For sustainability and broader impact, future programs should be strengthened through collaboration with health cadres, primary health centers, and community leaders, combined with follow-up education and integration into primary healthcare services.

Abstract

Introduction: In Indonesia, baseline data on quality of life (QoL) among rehabilitation residents are limited. This study aimed to assess the QoL of SUD residents at Rumoh Harapan Atjeh while providing a brief mental health education session. Methods: Nineteen male residents (18–60 years) undergoing rehabilitation for methamphetamine or cannabis use participated voluntarily. A 60-minute group education session was delivered, followed by completion of the WHOQOL-BREF (Bahasa Indonesia version) assessing physical, psychological, social, and environmental domains. Scores were transformed to a 0–100 scale and categorized as low (41–60), moderate (61–80), or high (>80). Ethical approval was not required, as the activity was categorized as community engagement without intervention. Informed consent and confidentiality were maintained. Results: Mean total QoL was 57.0 (low). Physical health scored highest (68.5, moderate), while psychological well-being (56.5), social relationships (58.5), and environment (54.5) remained low. All participants scored low in psychological and environmental domains, reflecting emotional distress and limited autonomy. Conclusion: Baseline QoL assessment identifies critical psychosocial needs among SUD residents. Integrating routine QoL monitoring and targeted psychosocial support into rehabilitation programs can enhance holistic recovery. Findings are preliminary due to the small sample size and single-site setting.
