Abstract

Countries like India which are grappling with providing healthcare to heterogeneous and varied base ofstakeholders including those at the bottom of pyramid have their own share of availability and affordabilityconcerns in the healthcare sector for providing access of life saving drugs to the vast segment of Indianpopulation and move towards the achievement of the Sustainable Developmental Goals (SDGs); in processaddressing not only adequate availability of the primary health care but achieving the competition frameworkvis- a- vis patent control as the Original Patents which intend to protect innovation tangentially run across theconsequential price determination power by monopolistic patented drug companies. Compulsory licensing ofPatents provisions are used by the Governments as a means to correct anti-competitive practices to promotepublic interest or public health and in cases of emergency avoiding monopolies at the hands of patent holdersto deter anti-competitive violations by engaging in unfair competition or abuse of dominant position in themarket which aspect is so crucial to provide outreach of cheaper and quality drugs in common good.

Abstract

Background and Aim: Road traffic accident a cause of unnatural death is the third major preventable oneamongst all death. Maxillofacial trauma is often encountered in accidents either as isolated injury or alongwith several injuries to the head, neck, chest and abdomen.Materials and Method: A retrospective observational study was conducted in the Department of ForensicMedicine and Toxicology at Saveetha Medical College between January 2018 to December 2018 with anobjective to analyse the Sociodemographic profile and compare the pattern of facial injuries in Road TrafficAccident cases with and without helmet usage. Results: Out of total 2438 RTA cases analysed, 1523 were two wheeler RTAs (62.5%). Amongst 1523cases,173 (11.36%) had facial injuries. The peak incidence of maxillofacial injuries (42.7%) was observed inthe age group of 21 to 30 years, with males outnumbering females in all age groups. The maximum numberof trauma cases was reported in late evening hours. Maximum RTAs occured in the months of winter usuallyin the semi urban areas. The injuries were sustained mostly due to frontal impact. Injuries to lip particularlylaceration injuries were most frequent. Injuries occured most commonly to the riders. The injuries were seenmore amongst the non helmet usage cases amounting to 68% of cases. Conclusion: The changing trend of etiology of maxillofacial injuries due to Road traffic Accidents inChennai necessitates strict traffic legislation and better health care facilities with respect to maxillofacialunits.

Abstract

Introduction: Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery is one among the most common proceduresperformed in the world, and it is one of the possible treatments for coronary artery disease (CAD). Althoughthe effectiveness of coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) is being evaluated in terms of mortality, complications or recurrence of symptoms, empirical studies assessing the change in patients quality of life(QOL) after CABG need to be studied as findings keep changing as time progress. A systematic analysisof how well the patient is considering a multiple variable need to be studied which has greater impact inimproving the overall performance of the patients after CABG.Aim: Aim of the study is to assess the quality of life among post coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)patients.Method: A quantitative approach with a descriptive design using a non-probability convenience samplingtechnique was used to collect data from 101 post CABG patients. The setting used for the study was CVTSOPDs at AIMS, Kochi. A standardized quality of life questionnaire (SF-36) along with a semi-structuredquestionnaire to assess socio-demographic and clinical data. Results: The study result showed that the majority of samples (97%) had good QOL with mean score of69.22. PCS (96%) showed higher value than MCS (68. 3). A significant association found between QOL andsocio-demographic variables like occupation (p=0.018).Conclusion: Overall QOL improved one year after CABG.

Abstract

Several pulp therapies both vital and non-vital pulp therapies for preserving the physiologic integrity aswell as the well being of the tooth have been developed as a necessity for the healthy growth of the teeth. Itmainly aims at protecting the teeth from trauma, caries, or any other infections. Pulp exposures resultantsto caries are the most universal in deciduous teeth due to the relatively bulky size of the pulp chamber. The pulp in deciduous teeth is capable of healing, following control of infection, and inflammation. Apulpectomy is mainly preferred in non-vital teeth (done in various vital teeth also), where the teeth canbe cleaned and disinfected and preserved for more no. of coming years. Pulp rehabilitation for pulpallyimplicated deciduous teeth continues to be a confront to practitioners. One of the majority important areasof continued examination is in the area of discovering obturating resources to suit the precise properties ofthese teeth. This piece of writing aims at reviewing the objectives, types, technique, restorative materialsused, indications and contraindications and conclusion

Abstract

Due to rise in the Orthodontic treatment by general dental practitioners and pedodontists, there has beena widespread increase in the mass promotion and publicizing by the Orthodontists about their specialtyand particular expertise. Earlier, treatments were advocated in the form of maintenance of good oralhealth, however, it is now being recommended to patients as life-enhancing. Commercialism in publicizingorthodontic care has taken up the field. Because of the elective nature of Orthodontics, highly productivemarketing strategies are aimed at those with discretionary income or insurance benefits. This kind ofcommercialism deteriorates the name and fame of the Orthodontist and the opinion of the people by castinga picture of greed. Inappropriate advertising can make a dental practitioner look more like a business personthan a professional service provider.

There was statistical significant difference between total knowledge of the studied mothersregarding factors affecting EBF discontinuation and its preventionand total practice of breastfeeding pre/post nursing intervention. Conclusion: Nursing intervention had a positive effect on prevention of EBFdiscontinuation. Recommendation: Developing initiatives, pre and postnatal health education programs forprotecting, promoting and supporting breastfeeding which aid in the prevention of EBF discontinuation.

Abstract

Introduction : Benzene is a volatile compound and widely uses as a solvent. In its work process, printingindustry used materials containing benzene. One of the target organs of benzene exposure is bone marrow. Therefore, the effect of benzene exposure is damage to the blood formation system. Methods : This research was an observational study with a quantitative approach and cross-sectional design.Subjects used 11 workers population of printing X Surabaya. All variables were analyzed by using rankspearman correlation.Result: The test results showed that most of the levels of benzene exposure exceeded the determined LimitValue. A total of 6 (64%) workers worked ≥ 10 years. The test results revealed significant benzene exposurewith changes in HCT and MCHC values. The average safe concentration of benzene is 0.01868. The resultsof safe C testing with blood profile showed that significant for safe C Benzene with red blood cells RBC andHCT (p<0,05).Conclussion : The results of the calculation of safe C benzene and blood profile of workers showed asignificant relationship between safe C and RBC and HCT. There was no significant relationship in WBC,HGB, MCV, MCH, MCHC.
