Abstract

Purpose: Consumption of plastic, especially single-use ones, is seen today as one of the leading environmental problems since it is used for a very short time and takes hundreds of years to decompose. At the same time, there has been a growing awareness to consume environmentally friendly products and minimize the use of plastic. Similar research has been conducted but in a limited amount in the Z generation context. This study aimed to identify the correlation between green consumption values and green consumption behavior in the Z generation. Research methodology: The variables in this study were measured using the GREEN scale and the ECCB scale. The collected data was analyzed by using correlational methods. The two-stage cluster-random sampling technique was used, and 202 respondents participated in this study. Results: The results showed that there is a significant positive correlation between green consumption value and green consumption behavior at a moderate level. Five indicators of green consumption behavior correlate to green consumption value (recycled products, biodegradability, driving habits/oil dependency, consumer purchase, and reduction in electricity). Limitations: Limitations related to this study were also discussed as its opportunity for further research. Contribution: These findings will empower people to understand how our value will create green consumption behavior, and it will derive following sustainable buying behavior.

Abstract

Purpose: The study examined the effects of the strategies employed by the Alliance for Democracy (AD), the main opposition party in the 1999 general elections in Nigeria, to manage its internal conflicts. Research methodology: This study is qualitative. It analyzed secondary data on Nigeria’s Fourth Republic to explain the management of intra-party conflicts in the Alliance for Democracy (AD). Results: It found that the AD was able to record remarkable successes in the 1998/1999 general elections as a result of its internal mechanism for mediation, bargaining, consultations, and negotiations among the party members. However, its inability to employ effective management strategies to settle internal crises before and after the 2003 general elections signaled the loss of its status as one of the leading parties in the country. Limitations: Despite being the main opposition party in the 1999 general elections, literature on the AD is scanty. This limited insights into events that culminated in the AD’s loss of status as a frontline political party in Nigeria. Contribution: It enriches the literature on the causes of intra-party conflicts and the effects of mismanaging such conflicts on party stability. It also provides deep insights into the reasons for AD’s loss of status from being the main opposition party in Nigeria between 1999 and 2003 to being deregistered in 2020.

Abstract

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between board characteristics and the financial performance of listed healthcare firms in Nigeria. Research methodology: The study, which covered a seven-year period from 2015-2021, made use of secondary data sourced from published annual reports and accounts of five purposively selected companies on the Nigerian Stock Exchange. Data analysis was done by means of descriptive statistics, a correlation matrix, and some diagnostic tests using STATA 13. Results: The findings show that board characteristics consisting of board size, board independence, board gender diversity, and board meetings have a negative, non-significant relationship with performance. This study concludes that board size should be increased, the number of non-executive members of the board should be increased with members having vast knowledge and competency in governance, the number of women on the board should be increased, and frequent and necessary board meetings should be encouraged and possibly regulated in order not to create room for waste of resources and time. Limitations: The study’s main limitations are that it did not use other financial-based measurements for financial performance, used incomplete data, and used a small sample size. Contribution: The results of the study, based on the findings, will assist firms in the recommendation of the board size number and how its effectiveness should be increased and sustained. The study also contributes to other extant literature, as not many studies have been conducted in this area of the healthcare firms listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange.
