Abstract

Urban greenery plays an important role in providing a biodiversity habitat of vegetation and birds as biotics in the urban ecosystem. The biodiversity can show attractions in Yogyakarta city as a tourism destination in Indonesia. This research was conducted on three types of roads of the secondary artery (SA), secondary collector (SC), and local (L). The bird diversity depended on tree greenery as its habitat and food source. This research aimed (1) to analyze bird diversity on the roadside greenery in Yogyakarta City, and (1) to reveal the attraction of birds on the urban greenery as a tourism attraction. The sample units were selected by the method of stratified random sampling. The bird observation was used by the method of transect line conducted on the three categories of roads in Yogyakarta City. The bird diversity was analyzed by Shannon-Wiener's (H') index diversity, and bird activity was descriptively analyzed. The number of birds found in the greenery was 685 belong to 12 species. The diversity indexes (H') of the birds on the roads of the secondary artery (SA), secondary collector (SC), and local (L) categories were 0.697 (low), 1.001 (medium), and 1.246 (medium). The index shows the equal quality of the bird attractions in the city. The low-medium of index value should be improved to reach a high H'. The improvement should be carried out by landscape planning for urban tourism through planting food source trees or habitat trees for birds on the urban greenery of Yogyakarta. The strength of the urban attraction of birds was also supported by species diversity, conservation status, bird activity, habitat trees, and the ecological function of urban trees on the roadside greenery of Yogyakarta city. Abstract

Gayo Highlands region had a potential area for the development of Arabica coffee because of the topographical conditions of the land that support the cultivation of Gayo Arabica coffee, but production of plants ranges from 650–750 kg ha-1, lower than some existing varieties which reach 1,5–2 tons ha-1. One way to increase production is the application of biourine and biocompost. This study aimed to determine the effect of the application of biourine and biocompost technology packages on the growth and production of Gayo I and II Arabica coffee plants. This study used a factorial separate plot design (RPT) consisting of Arabica Gayo I (A1) and Gayo II (A2) with a dose of NPK 150 kg ha-1 (farmer/control treatment) (C1), 150 mL-1 (biourine) + 5 ton ha-1 (biocompost) + NPK 100 kg ha-1 (C2), 125 mL plant-1 (biourine) + 7.5 ton ha-1 (biocompost) + NPK 100 kg ha-1 (C3), and 100 mL plant-1 (biocompost) + 10 ton ha-1 (biocompost) + NPK 100 kg ha-1 (C4). The results of the observations were analyzed by ANOVA and 95% DMRT. The results showed that the doses of biourine and biocompost fertilizers did not have interaction with Gayo I and Gayo II Arabica coffee, but for independent treatment of biourine and bicompost fertilizers, the dosage significantly affected the production of Gayo Arabica coffee. Application of 100 mL ha-1(biourine) + 10 tons ha-1 (biocompost) + 100 kg ha-1 NPK (C4) was able to increase the Gayo Arabica Coffee production by 41% when compared with NPK fertilizers of 150 kg ha-1 without biourine and biocompost (C1). Regression analysis showed that the level of 80% of Gayo Arabica Coffee was affected by the different application of biocompost dosages. Keywords: Arabica Gayo, biourine, biocompost, productivity

Abstract

The Citarum watershed is one of the priority watersheds due to problems of critical land, flooding, erosion, and sedimentation which continue to increase every year. As the main catchment area that contributes to maintaining the availability of water resources, the upstream Citarum watershed continues to experience a reduction in forest and an increase in built-up land. A research aimed to analyze land use changes to the hydrological characteristics was carried out at the Watershed. The methods used include interpretation of SPOT image data, analysis of land use changes, and determining the values of KRA and KAT. The results of the analysis of land use change conditions in 2009-2018 saw a reduction in forest area (-5.5%), rice fields (-17.4%), and shrubs (-60.8%). Land use increased in built up land (39.7%), dry land agriculture (13%), plantations (6.4%), and open land (95.5%). The highest discharge occurred in 2010 at 606,3 m3/second and the lowest discharge in 2012 was 4,3 m3/second. The KRA and KAT values of the Upper Citarum watershed were moderate and very high. The multiple linear regression model of the relationship between land use changes that affect river flow fluctuations is Y = 2380.5 + 0.9 rainfall -206.5 forest + 6.1 build-up area -31.8 dryland agriculture + e. Other factors that influence the increase in river discharge are the slope of land slopes, rainfall patterns, and inadequate land use methods. Abstract

Xylooligosaccharides (XOS) are sugar oligomers from xylan that can be used as prebiotics to improve digestive tract health. Xylan can be extracted from corncobs which are a by-product of agriculture. The purpose of this study was to produce XOS through hydrolysis of corn cobs xylan using Streptomyces P26B4 xylanase. The products of hydrolysis also consisted of monomer xylose; for that xilooligosaccharides were purified using yeast IP4. The xylan hydrolysis products are quantitatively analyzed based on the value of reducing sugars and degree of polymerization (DP), strengthened qualitatively with TLC. Sugar component was analyzed after the addition of yeast by HPLC. P26B4 xylanase isolates had the highest activity on the 7th day incubation, pH 5,5 buffer citrate and temperature of 50°C. The lowest DP value of xylan hydrolysis was 2.49 at a concentration of 6%, and the 24th hour of incubation. TLC chromatograms showed that xylose and XOS products were produced. Purification of XOS at 6%, showed a decreasing in the area of xylose before and after receiving yeast respectively 1.87% and 1.41%.Therefore, yeast IP4 has the potential to consume xylose amnd purify the XOS. Abstract

The main cause of flooding and erosion that creates critical land in various regions in Indonesia is surface runoff. The surface runoff will occur if rainfall exceeds the capacity of soil water absorption (infiltration capacity). The soil management of each land use could improve the infiltration capacity. The water movement both on the surface and in the soil determines the water infiltration. This study predicts surface runoff based on the infiltration rate of various land uses and rainfall in the Ciliwung Watershed. A series of studies were performed in the upstream and middle areas of the watershed. Observations of soil properties, water movement, and rainfall were carried out in various dry land uses. The results showed that the soil's physical properties mostly determine the constant infiltration rate, which affected the water movement in the soil. The initial water content, the degree of saturation of the initial moisture content, and the soil's physical properties determine the time of constant infiltration rate. The value of constant rate infiltration and the time of its achievement determine the amount of surface runoff that occurs.
