Abstract

Crisis is a condition that can threaten the operational sustainability and reputation of a company unexpectedly. This study aims to examine the crisis communication strategy implemented by the Public Relations of PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Daop 1 Jakarta in handling operational disruptions due to flooding that occurred in Semarang in January 2025. The research used a descriptive qualitative approach through in-depth interviews and literature study. The results showed that this crisis was classified as a victim cluster according to the Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) framework. This is because natural disasters occur outside the company's control. PT KAI implemented three main strategies, namely diminish to explain that the disruption was caused by external factors, rebuild by apologizing and compensating passengers, and bolstering to strengthen a positive image through responsive and empathetic communication. PT KAI also optimized communication channels such as social media, KAI Access application, and WhatsApp Blast to reduce public unrest. These findings show the importance of fast, transparent, and coordinated communication in maintaining public trust and strengthening relationships with stakeholders. The right crisis communication strategy not only reduces negative impacts, but also strengthens the organization's readiness to deal with similar crises in the future.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the marketing communication strategies implemented by Forthis house to enhance brand awareness and customer loyalty in Samarinda. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The informants included the business owner as the key source and two customers as supporting sources. Data analysis followed the Miles, Huberman, and Saldana model, consisting of data condensation, display, and conclusion drawing. The results reveal that Forthis house’s strategy comprises advertising via billboards and social media (Instagram and Tiktok), sales promotion through free samples and event participation, public relations based on customer feedback, personal selling by cashiers, and direct communication facilitated by social media. The combination of digital and direct interaction proved effective in increasing purchase intention, creating positive customer experiences, and building emotional engagement that leads to loyalty. The study concludes that consistency, creativity, and customer involvement are key elements for the success of Forthis house’s marketing communication strategy. Further research is recommended to explore other digital platforms to expand the effectiveness of similar strategies.

Abstract

Climate change, a prominent global agenda in the last decade, has driven the adoption and implementation of green economic policies and sustainable development campaign by various nations. The Indonesian government, through its clean energy transition campaign, has promoted electric vehicle (EV) adoption to reduce carbon emissions. This initiative has spurred a new industrial market in Indonesia, supported by the government's nickel downstreaming policy, given nickel's critical role in the EV industry. However, nickel mining and its industries have demonstrated significant negative impacts on the environment and local communities, notably in Raja Ampat. This qualitative descriptive study, employing literature review and observational approach, found that intensive reporting by the press and activists via mass media and social media platforms regarding nickel mining activities in Raja Ampat effectively created a media agenda. This transformed into public agenda and subsequently a policy agenda within a short timeframe. The public pressure generated by this widespread response compelled the government to act in accordance with popular demand, leading to the temporary cessation of nickel mining activities in Raja Ampat. This research demonstrates implementing agenda-setting method within media activism can be an effective approach in crisis communication to efficiently garner public response and drive policy action.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the communication strategy of Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta (UMJ) in building its brand image through the UniRank 4ICU ranking indicators. As the oldest Muhammadiyah higher education institution, established in 1955, UMJ holds a strategic position in Indonesia’s higher education landscape. Therefore, UMJ bears the responsibility to project an image of excellence, uniqueness, and strong institutional reputation, particularly in the digital era. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, guided by Cangara’s theory of communication strategy and Keller’s Customer-Based Brand Equity (CBBE) model. Data collection was conducted through in-depth interviews, and thematic analysis was carried out based on the CBBE framework and UniRank indicators, including referring domains, global rank, domain authority, and trust flow. The findings indicate that UMJ strategically implements these ranking indicators through the management of its official website, social media platforms, and the application of search engine optimization (SEO) techniques. These efforts form part of the university’s broader communication strategy to build a strong institutional brand image. The achievement of a global ranking not only reflects digital communication performance but also serves as a strategic communication tool that reinforces UMJ’s image as a modern, reputable, and Islamic-oriented higher education institution. This study underscores the importance of integrating digital communication strategies with brand image development to enhance institutional competitiveness at the global level.

Abstract

This article analyzes the phenomenon of adopting Korean aesthetic standards in Indonesia as a manifestation of disciplinary power within Michel Foucault's theoretical framework. Through the spread of Korean popular culture (Hallyu), a new regime of truth about the ideal body like white skin, slim figure, and V-line face has been disseminated and internalized. This study argues that beauty practices such as skincare routines, dieting, and consumption of K-beauty products are not free individual choices, but rather forms of self-discipline that produce docile bodies. Using genealogical and discourse analysis, this article traces how this power operates productively through the media, the beauty industry, and fan communities, shaping consumer subjectivity and desire in Indonesia. Furthermore, this analysis examines the biopolitical impact of this phenomenon on mental health and the economics of desire, and explores spaces of resistance to this aesthetic hegemony.

Abstract

Truth is a fundamental concept in science that continues to evolve from classical philosophy to the post-truth era. This era is characterized by the dissemination of information that prioritizes emotions and subjective beliefs over objective facts, thus posing a challenge to science because it has the potential to weaken the standards of truth and the scientific method. This article discusses various correspondence, coherence, pragmatic, consensus, semantic, syntactic, and performative theories of truth as tools for filtering and assessing information in the post-truth era. Using a literature study approach, this study examines the development of the concept of truth in the scientific world. The analysis shows that correspondence theory bases truth on conformity with reality, coherence theory emphasizes consistency in knowledge systems, and pragmatic theory measures truth based on its benefits. Consensus theory relies on the agreement of the scientific community, while semantic and syntactic theories analyze the meaning and structure of language in distinguishing facts from disinformation. The performative theory considers a statement to be true if it can create reality. By applying these theories, people can be more critical in assessing the truth, so that science remains the basis for decision-making and information dissemination.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic created multidimensional challenges for development, particularly in the education sector, where learning activities were disrupted by social restrictions. This situation required local governments to introduce innovative policies to ensure inclusive and sustainable educational services. This article aims to describe the inclusive development innovation implemented by the Cirebon City Government in expanding access to learning opportunities for primary school students during the COVID-19 pandemic. The discussion adopts a descriptive approach by reviewing government policies, inclusive development indicators, and educational program implementation throughout the pandemic. The findings indicate that the Cirebon City Government successfully implemented a pentahelix collaboration involving government institutions, the private sector, communities, media, and academia. This collaborative approach was realized through the implementation of distance learning, the development of e-learning platforms, the provision of internet data assistance, the utilization of digital media and local television for educational delivery, and the strengthening of parental and school committee involvement in supporting students' learning activities. The synergy among stakeholders enabled the continuity of educational services while expanding learning access during the pandemic. These findings suggest that the pentahelix collaboration model represents an effective strategy for promoting inclusive development, particularly in the education sector during times of crisis.

Abstract

This study analyzes the denotative, connotative, and mythological meanings in the SK-II “The Change Destiny” advertisement using Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. Advertisements are understood as a space for the production of meaning that shapes perceptions of female beauty and identity within modern visual culture. Through an analysis of visual elements such as facial expressions, colors, gestures, and symbolic scenes for example, removing jewelry, wiping off lipstick, and moving toward the light. The study finds that the advertisement presents a narrative of women's transformation from social pressure to self-liberation. At the mythical level, the advertisement constructs a discourse that true beauty stems from the courage to make choices and accept oneself, rather than from beauty standards established by patriarchal culture. Thus, the SK-II “The Change Destiny” advertisement not only offers an image of beauty but also conveys an ideological message about women's empowerment and a shift in perspectives on modern beauty.

Abstract

This descriptive qualitative study, using a phenomenological approach, analyzes the perceptions of young people in Palangka Raya City toward the running phenomenon. The main goal is to examine how running serves as a medium for self-identity construction and is influenced by social factors. Informants were drawn from participants in the Sociology, Culture, and Running (Soculrun 2025) event. The findings show that running has transformed into a complex social practice, moving beyond its physical function, and becoming essential in constructing a healthy lifestyle and modern urban self-image. Running activities contribute to forming a collective Habitus, manifested through shared practices and values. The running community is a vital producer and consumer of Social Capital (networks and support) and a significant arena for Self-Identity formation validated by the social environment. Participation also facilitates the acquisition of Cultural Capital (knowledge and skills valued in the community). Although the study notes the presence of FOMO and the risk of over consumption, the youth demonstrate a reflective and selective attitude, adapting the trend to their personal needs for healing or productive leisure. Sociologically, running enhances public space dynamics, promoting orderly social interaction, thus supporting the sustainability of this practice in urban society

Abstract

Social inclusion has been one of the development goals of Indonesia. Inclusion programs that have been implemented in recent years are based on policies that are formulated in an inclusive manner, but their implementation does not always result in inclusiveness. This study aims to analyze the implementation of social inclusion that has been pursued in Indonesia, by describing the implementations that still encounter challenges and problems. This includes the implementation of policies that are inclusive in nature but tend to be exclusive in their implementation. The discussion of social inclusion and its implementation is then reflected through the concepts of Mitsein and das Man, philosophical ideas of Martin Heidegger. This existential philosophical thinking forms the basis of social philosophy, which views social relations as the essence of human existence. That is, humans always exist together with other humans. The conclusion of this study provides a reflective proposal, in the form of a re-examination of the concepts of Mitsein and das Man in reviewing the implementation of social inclusion in Indonesia.
