Abstract

The development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) has led to an epistemological shift in how humans understand and produce knowledge. This article aims to re-examine the concept of scientific truth within the framework of the philosophy of science in the digital era, emphasizing the relationship between humans, machines, and truth. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach through literature studies from Western and Islamic philosophies—including the thoughts of Karl Popper, Thomas Kuhn, and Al-Ghazali—the study finds that AI challenges human epistemic boundaries by introducing a form of “algorithmic truth” that is predictive yet not always empirical. From an axiological standpoint, AI must be directed toward human welfare through ethical and moral values. The study concludes that integrating scientific truth with ethical values is essential to address the epistemological challenges of the digital age.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of the people’s error within socialist critiques of liberal electoral democracy by examining its philosophical foundations and ethical implications. The research employs a qualitative descriptive-analytical method based on conceptual and philosophical literature review. The formal object of the study is socialist political critique of liberal democracy, while the material object is the concept of the people’s error as articulated in critiques of electoral practices. The area of study lies within political philosophy, particularly debates on democracy, legitimacy, and emancipation in contemporary contexts. The analysis demonstrates that the notion of the people’s error functions as a normative construction emerging from structural failures of liberal electoral democracy rather than from inherent deficiencies of the people as political subjects. This narrative often shifts responsibility from institutional and economic structures to voters, generating ethical tensions between emancipatory aims and democratic equality. The study concludes that socialist critique must distinguish structural criticism from the delegitimization of popular sovereignty. It recommends further interdisciplinary research combining philosophical analysis with empirical investigation of democratic institutions and participatory alternatives.

Abstract

Traditional performing arts have a strategic role in conveying religious messages culturally within society. One of these art forms is ketoprak, which continues to survive and develop among Javanese communities. This study aims to analyze da’wah symbols in the Ketoprak Saridin performance by the Asmara Sri Budaya group in Blora and to interpret their meanings in representing Islamic teachings. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach using observation, interviews, and documentation as data collection techniques. Data analysis was conducted using Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory to interpret da’wah symbols found in dialogues, storylines, characters, and dramatic actions. The results indicate that the Ketoprak Saridin performance contains da’wah symbols representing values of monotheism, simplicity, honesty, patience, trust in God, and criticism of arrogance and greed. These symbols are conveyed contextually through local language and dramatic narratives, making the messages easily understood by the audience. This study confirms that Ketoprak Saridin functions not merely as entertainment but also as an effective medium of cultural da’wah communication within rural communities.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perceptions of female students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Cirebon towards the main characters in the Korean drama Little Women (2022). This drama, adapted from the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, tells the story of three sisters who face moral and social dilemmas as they struggle against injustice and power structures. Using Miftah Toha's perception theory, which consists of three stages (stimulus, registration, and interpretation), this research examines how the narrative and cinematic elements of the drama shape audience perceptions of the central characters: Oh In-joo, Oh In-kyung, and Oh In-hye. The research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation from seven female student informants at Universitas Muhammadiyah Cirebon. The findings reveal that the audience's perceptions of these characters are influenced by the drama's narrative and cinematic quality, including its engaging storyline, strong character development, and visual elements such as lighting and costume that support the overall atmosphere. The character of Oh In-joo is perceived as pragmatic and realistic, Oh In-kyung as an idealistic figure fighting for justice, while Oh In-hye is viewed as a complex character with ambition and identity dilemmas. These findings contribute to the understanding of female representation in popular media and audience perceptions of characters within the context of Korean dramas.

Abstract

This article examines the phenomenon of the echo chamber in the digital era, which increasingly narrows the space for dialogue and weakens critical thinking due to social media algorithms that continuously reinforce users’ existing beliefs. This study aims to analyze the relevance of Immanuel Kant’s concept of sapere aude as a philosophical response to the echo chamber phenomenon and to propose a pathway toward intellectual freedom in the digital sphere. The research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach by examining Kant’s works and scholarly literature on echo chambers, digital media, education, and digital literacy. The findings reveal that echo chambers not only foster social polarization and the spread of misinformation but also threaten the autonomy of reason by limiting openness to diverse perspectives. In this context, Kant’s principle of sapere aude, stressing the bravery to think independently, remains highly relevant as a foundation for intellectual freedom. Education, digital literacy, cross-perspective dialogue, and the cultivation of critical thinking are essential means of reviving the spirit of enlightenment in the digital age. Therefore, Kant’s thought provides a strong philosophical foundation for developing an autonomous and critical culture of thinking capable of confronting the challenges posed by echo chambers in contemporary digital society.

Abstract

Racism against the Chinese ethnic group remains a social issue that continues to be represented across various forms of media, including film. Pengepungan di Bukit Duri, directed by Joko Anwar, portrays various forms of discrimination against the Chinese ethnic community that reflect social realities in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the representation of racism against the Chinese ethnic group in the film using John Fiske’s semiotic approach. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method, with data collected from scenes, dialogues, and visual elements that contain representations of racism. The analysis was conducted through John Fiske’s three levels of codes: reality, representation, and ideology. The findings reveal that racism is represented through verbal racism and power relations directed toward the Chinese ethnic group. At the reality level, racism is depicted through discriminatory remarks, identity labeling, and prejudices that emerge in interactions between characters. At the representation level, the use of camera techniques, lighting, and sound design reinforces the discriminatory meanings constructed within the film’s narrative. At the ideological level, the film positions the Chinese ethnic group as a minority community that experiences unequal power relations and social marginalization. The findings indicate that film functions as a medium of representation that both reflects and critiques racist practices against the Chinese ethnic group within Indonesian society.

Abstract

Education should fully support the process of moral and intellectual development. In reality, however, education often becomes a competitive arena in which achievement is valued more highly than integrity. This study analyzes how the education system is portrayed in the film Bad Genius (2017) through narrative analysis and Stuart Hall's theory of representation. Using a qualitative approach, the study examines how the film reflects moral conflict, academic competition, and socio-economic inequality as manifestations of structural injustice within the education system. Applying Todorov's narrative model, the study shows how the journey of the main character, Lynn, reflects a moral transformation from an idealistic student into one trapped in a moral dilemma caused by academic pressure and economic limitation. The narrative structure reveals declining morality as a consequence of an education system that consistently prioritizes results over process. Through Hall's theory of representation, the film offers a social critique of an education system in which success is measured by outcomes rather than by the learning process itself. This shows that Bad Genius does not merely highlight academic cheating, but also exposes the injustice of an education system that ultimately shapes students' moral choices. The film illustrates how social and economic dimensions influence ethical decision-making, and underscores the importance of equitable educational policies that support human well-being and moral integrity. The significance of this study lies in offering a critical perspective on the interplay between morality, competition, and social inequality within the education system.

Abstract

This study examines deliberative communication and postmodern fragmentation in the MBG poisoning case in schools through the perspective of the Habermas-Lyotard philosophy of science. The background of this study is the strengthening crisis of public trust in the MBG program after the emergence of various poisoning incidents that gave rise to a narrative battle between the government, media, victims, and society. This study aims, first, to analyze the construction of the MBG poisoning discourse in Indonesia's digital public space. Second, to explain the failure of deliberative communication in the crisis through the perspective of Habermas. And third, to describe the fragmentation of narratives in the MBG debate through the perspective of Lyotard. The method used is a literature study with a critical discourse analysis approach. Data were analyzed through thematic coding of official government narratives, critical public narratives, and digital media responses to identify patterns of knowledge legitimacy and power relations in the MBG discourse. The results show that the MBG poisoning discourse in the digital public space shows tension between official truth claims and the empirical experiences of victims. From Habermas's perspective, the failure of deliberative communication is caused by the dominance of instrumental rationality that excludes equal, transparent, and rational public participation. From Lyotard's perspective, the MBG debate demonstrates the collapse of a single narrative and the emergence of a plurality of competing sub-narratives, thus fragmenting policy legitimacy. This study concludes that restoring the legitimacy of knowledge in MBG policy can only be achieved through deliberative, inclusive, and accountable public communication, accompanied by recognition of the diversity of community experiences and narratives.

Abstract

Late adolescence is an important stage in the development of self-identity, as individuals begin to understand themselves through various experiences and social interactions. One of the social environments that contributes to this process is the automotive community, including communities of loud exhaust (knalpot brong) users. This study aims to examine the process of self-identity formation among late adolescents who use loud exhaust systems in the Asdi Home Garage (AHG) community. The study employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Three informants were selected through purposive sampling, consisting of active AHG members aged 20–24 years who use loud exhaust systems. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and a literature review, and were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman data analysis model. The findings indicate that the participants' self-identity was formed through the processes of social categorization, social identification, and social comparison. Loud exhaust systems and other community attributes were interpreted as symbols that strengthened members' sense of belonging, solidarity, and social identity. This study offers a different perspective by examining loud exhaust use not merely as an issue of legal violation or noise pollution, but also as an important element in the process of self-identity formation within an automotive community.

Abstract

TikTok is a social media platform widely used for entertainment, allowing users to create, share, and consume audiovisual content through short-form videos. In Indonesia, TikTok has experienced significant growth, with its users reaching 194 million. In 2024, Indonesian TikTok users were also reported to spend more than 44 hours per month on the platform. This high level of use indicates Generation Z’s strong engagement with fast, brief, and repetitive content. This study examines TikTok scrolling dependency in the formation of the brain rot phenomenon among Generation Z by applying Media Ecology Theory and Media Dependency Theory. This research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method to understand users’ experiences in consuming TikTok content. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five active Generation Z TikTok users. The findings reveal that dependency develops through repeated app use, difficulty controlling usage duration, and the tendency to rely on TikTok as instant entertainment. This condition contributes to brain rot, reflected in decreased cognitive focus, delayed activities, mood changes, and disrupted time management. The study concludes that brain rot is shaped by TikTok’s media characteristics and users’ dependence on fast digital content. Digital literacy and selfcontrol are necessary to promote wiser social media use.
