Abstract

This research aims to integrate Longko' Torayan culture with education practices based on local wisdom in schools. Longko' Torayan is a cultural heritage of the Toraja ancestors, which is literally interpreted as the culture of shame. However, this culture is also rich in meaning, emphasizing inclusive values as the foundation of communal life in society. The research method used is a qualitative ethnographic approach. Data collection was obtained through literature studies to understand Longko' Torayan culture. The research results show that the cultural values of Longko' Torayan are not just about the culture of shame but also teach the meanings of loyalty, kinship, honor, maintaining family dignity, tolerance, and work ethic, which can serve as the foundation in educational practices in schools and as a means to introduce, respect, and preserve Toraja culture. The integration of Longko' Torayan cultural wisdom in education can be implemented through curriculum development that includes theory and practice in schools. Thus, this research is expected to provide a foundation for the development of educational practices based on local wisdom in schools, encouraging students to understand, appreciate, and implement the values of Longko' Torayan local wisdom, both in schools and in communal life in society.

Abstract

This study explores applying John Locke's concept of tabula rasa and Susan Power Bratton's Eco-Dimensionality theory within the context of Sunday school education at the Huria Kristen Batak Protestan (HKBP) Church. It investigates how these theories influence children's teaching and understanding of ecological responsibilities. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, focusing on how the HKBP Church integrates ecological teachings into its Sunday school curriculum and activities. The findings suggest that while the HKBP Church acknowledges environmental issues in its doctrines, implementing these principles is still nascent. The study highlights the importance of adapting educational content to foster ecological awareness, utilizing the tabula rasa concept to develop curricula that shape children's environmental attitudes and behaviors. It also underscores the role of interactive learning methods and evaluations to enhance children's understanding and actions towards environmental sustainability. By incorporating these educational strategies into the HKBP Sunday School Handbook, the church aims to cultivate a holistic environmental consciousness among its young members, aligned with biblical stewardship and ecological responsibility teachings.

Abstract

The independent learning curriculum is the government's effort to advance education in Indonesia. One of the approaches in order to realize independent learning is the differentiated learning approach. Differentiated learning is one of the approaches that can be implemented by teachers to meet the needs of students according to their readiness, interests and learning profiles. However, differentiated learning is still rarely done due to teachers' lack of understanding in designing learning. This is because this curriculum is a newly implemented curriculum and not all education units have fully implemented it. The purpose of this study is to assist teachers in implementing learning in the classroom based on needs and applying differentiated learning strategies, namely content, process, and product so that together they can achieve educational goals. The research was conducted at SMPN 5 Mamasa from Mei to Juli 2023 using qualitative research methods with a descriptive analysis approach. The participants in this research are teachers and students. The focus of the research is to explain the stages of differentiated learning in Christian Religious Education subjects with the material of the Bible as the guide of my life. The results of this study show that differentiated learning has a positive impact on students and can help teachers to be able to fulfil their duties and responsibilities through the stages of preparing initial mapping with diagnostic assessments, compiling learning modules, and implementing learning.

Abstract

This article aims to find the contribution of John Dewey’s thoughts on experiential learning for Christian education today. This study uses qualitative research with a content analysis method approach. Based on this method, it is found that the contribution of John Dewey’s thoughts on experiential learning for Christian education is learning that places the experience of students as the focus of learning both in theory and practice or direct experience that can be applied through social activities and service to the community so that understanding of religious values is reflected in real life where the intended experience is personal experience that they not only learn the concept of material or theory but at the same time become experience, but does not mean this learning only emphasizes the cognitive aspect because it still involves the affective and psychomotor aspects of student. Also provides wider opportunities for students to interact with each other and with teachers/educators and the environment.

Abstract

Creativity is an essential skill needed to present solutions to problems in various areas of life. The need for creativity in the 21st century is a driving force for education to take a holistic approach in supporting the development of students' creativity starting in the school environment. According to a Biblical Christian perspective, creativity must be developed because every gift from God must be accounted for for His glory. The low level of student creativity in Indonesia in the learning process is a call for education to be improved. Optimizing the teacher's role as a guide is expected to be a solution to the problem of low student creativity.   The aim of this research is to examine the role of teachers as guides in developing student creativity from a Biblical Christian perspective. The method used is a literature review. The role of the teacher as a guide will provide learning that is based on recognizing students' self-capacity as individuals who have creativity. Teachers as guides can guide the development of students' creativity by creating a creative classroom atmosphere in terms of learning models and activities.   Based on this study, it can be concluded that the teacher's role as a guide can be a solution to students' low creativity. The suggestion given is for teachers to implement learning models that allow students to develop their creative abilities.
