Abstract

The objectives of this study are to identify the pollutant sources location, analyze pollution load and pollution load carrying capacity of BOD (Biologycal Oxygen Demand), COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) and TSS (Total Suspended Solid) concentrations; The QUAL2Kw methods application for modeling process of the main river were divided into nine reach, where Sibayang River (kilometre 86,629) as the headwater and Mentulik village as the downstream boundaries (km 0). The water samples where selected at ten points, with five of them are located at the main river and the rest of five at the tributaries. The modeling used water quality data on pollutant sources as input and the main river water quality data as a comparison.Based on the results of the study, total pollution load of BOD are 4,83 Tons/hour and total pollution load carrying capacity of BOD are 2,65 Tons/hour, it means a pollution load carrying capacity for BOD has been exceeded for 2,18 Tons/hour. The total pollution load of COD are 8,16 Tons/hour and total pollution load carrying capacity of COD are 8,45 Tons/hour, it means a pollution load carrying capacity for COD has not been exceeded and the main river still capable to recieve the pollution load of COD for 0,29 Tons/hour. Total pollution load of TSS are 55,90 Tons/hour and total pollution load carrying capacity of TSS are 12,45 Tons/hour, it means a pollution load carrying capacity for TSS has been exceeded for 43,45 Tons/hour. Generally total pollution load carrying capacity of BOD and TSS has been exceeded, and a total pollution load carrying capacity for COD has not been exceeded, nevertheless if review is based on river reach, an excessing of BOD pollution load has been occurred at km 18 - 1 for 1, 37 Tons/hour, COD pollution load for 2, 38 Tons/hour at km 45 - 40 and TSS pollution load for 32, 54 Tons/hour in the Teso River

Abstract

Based on the research that has been carried out, the extent of potential damage to marine waters due to the operation of the sondong is directly proportional to the length of the operation time, the size of the sondong, the sweep length and the number of back and forth fishing gear. The longer the operating time, the larger the fishing gear size, the wider the sweep area and the greater the number of fishing gear settings (back and forth), the greater the potential for damage to marine waters. The catch consists of 37 species (including garbage), 2 types of main catch species (maincatch), 15 types of bycatch species and 20 species (including waste) from discard. Percentage of catch based on number (head) for main catch is 38%, bycatch 11% and bycatch 51%. Percentage of catch based on weight (kg) is for main catch 22%, bycatch 6% and waste catch 72%. The captured waste that is not valued is thrown away both alive and dead will become waste, this has triggered serious conservation problems due to the waste of valuable natural resources and causes populations of species to be endangered and even extinct. It can be said that there are no social, economic and conflict impacts that arise in the aquatic environment due to the operation of the fishing gear. Socially, the operation of the sondong fishing gear in the waters of the research location is acceptable, the decrease in fishermen's income and the (economic) catch in general is not due to the operation of the sondong fishing gear.

Abstract

The research on Escherichia coli (E. coli) and bacterial pathogens within catfish culture in Buluh Cina Village has been done in August 2015. This study aimed to analyze the quality  of the river water, the abundance of E.coli in the water stream and pathogenic bacteria in catfish and to correlate the quality of the water with an abundance of E. coli and the prevalence of pathogenic bacteria. The location of the study is three observation stations with sampling conducted by three replications. The water quality parameters under investigation were temperature, brightness, pH, DO, Nitrate, Nitrite, Ammonia, Phosphate, TSS and BOD while the indicator for microbiological contamination  is done by testing the abundance  of E. coli in the river water as well as the pathogenic bacteria in catfish. The results  of water quality measurements and testing of E. coli indicate the water quality is still good  with the standard required under Regulation No 82/2001 except ammonia, phosphates, nitrites and E. coli. Ammonia has exceeded the threshold value with the  average  from 0.018 to 0.059 mg/L, the phosphate on the average value of 4,921 to 9,804 mg/L, nitrite  in the average value from 0.015 to 0.068 mg/L and the abundance of E. coli on the value of the average 4,200-5,500 cfu / 100 ml. While the results of testing on pathogenic bacteria found in catfish are Aeromonas sp, Pseudomonas sp, Pasteurella sp and  Edwardsiella sp. The highest prevalence of pathogenic bacteria obtained in Aeromonas sp is equal to 29.63%. In the statistical test toward  chemical parameters of water  measured affects  the abundance of E. coli by 94%. The most significant variable on the water quality parameters affecting the abundance of E. coli is the temperature, TSS, pH, and DO with a correlation coefficient lebih dari 0.5.
