Abstract

This research was conducted in May 2014 in the western part of the RupatStrait Riau Province with its aims to determine the distribution of benthicforaminifera and sedimentation relative velocity. The determination of samplingpoints was done by using purposive sampling method. The sediments were taken byusing Eckman Grab then preserved with Rose Bengal mixed by formalin .The results showed that benthic foraminifera was found in higher amounts inthe north and south of the study site. By contrast, the smaller number was found inthe middle of the strait and the shoreline with the mangrove. These areas werepredominantly influenced by the high flow of current and mangrove area, withrelatively moderate sedimentation velocity. In West Rupat the waters was dividedinto 3 clusters based on the data distribution of benthic species foraminefera namely:group I was found in the northern, central and southern part of the study sites, characterized by dominating species of Reussella hayasakai, Textularia orbica andBolivina humilis and sediment classified as very fine sand; group II was found in thenorthern part of the study site with species that as dominated wereFissuripolymorphina aequicellaris, Rosalina Concina and Bolivina humilis with highorganic matter content in the study sites; group III was found in the southern part ofresearch location with the dominating species were Ammonia beccari, Textulariaarticulata and Textularia neoconica with the bottom sediments belonging to very finesand. Keywords : benthic foraminifera, sediment, Rupat Strait..

Abstract

The research was conducted in June 2015. The sampling and measurement of water quality were carried out in Sergang and Marok Tua coastal waters of Singkep Island, Riau Archipelago. This study was aimed to determine the distribution of benthic foraminifera and relative sedimentation rate in both areas. Survey method was used by taking samples from 2 stasions with 3 replicates at each stasion. Samples of sediments were taken and then analyzed to determine the number of individual, species, distribution pattern, the relative sedimentation rate and sediment fractions. The results showed that the number of individual of benthic foraminifera found in the wartes of Sergang were higher than in Marok Tua. In contrary the number of species of benthic foraminifera found in Marok Tua were higher than in Sergang. Sediment fraction in Sergang was dominated by fine sand and very fine sand. Based on Morisita index, the pattern of benthic foraminifera distribution was categorized as cluster. Results of the relative sedimentation rate calculation were divided into high in Sergang coastal waters that has limited antrophogenic activities with an average of 83.06 %. Lower sedimentation rate was found in Marok Tua with an average of 67.47%. Marok Tua coastal waters has more antrophogenic activities such as fishing boat activities, residential as well as tin and sand mining areas. Keywords : benthic foraminifera, sedimentation, mining, antrophogenic

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to reveal the depositional environmentand the movement of coastline. This study was conducted in January 2013 innorthern part of Rangsang Island, Meranti District. Sediment samples were takenfrom 11 station sand analyzed by using mechanical granular method. The methodof remote sensing linear regression was used to determine the movement ofcoastline. The result of study show that the surface bottom sediment ischaracterized by sand and mud fractions, and is dominated by bottom characterof sand. The study area was a transitional area where waves and currents werepredicted to change frequently through not too significant. The currents strengthtend to move with the fluctuations. The average change of the coastline during thepast 13 years (2000 to 2013) was 7,455 m/yr with the greatest changes occurredat station 7, i.e. Kedabu Rapat Village, with 8.54 m/yr. The speed movement ofcoastline was marked by the destruction of land cover in the north along the coastof the Rangsang Island as indicated by destruction of mangrove forests andvegetation coast, the sinking of jetty, roads and houses as well as the erosion.Kata kunci: movement of coastline, sediment coastal, Rangsang Island, abration.
