Abstract

Language and literature education can be utilized as a medium nf devcloping a nation's personality. In the context of culture, a language is part of the means to maintain the social order which is universal in nature. Therefore, a language can influence a culture. The relationship between a language as a means of communication and a culture in the sense of creation, feeling, and work can be established ac a medium qf developing humanistic values. Literary works containing humanistic values can serve as a medium of transforming a nation's personality values.

Abstract

Habermas's view of communication theorv can he an alternative solution to the current critical situation particularly in Indonesia, which is facing conflicts in a variety of dimensions. Hahermas's wise view that can be referred to is that there is no absolute truth. There is no single absolute way to solve a variety of crises resulting from conflicts. To create a more humane world, the suggested way is communication, a dialectical positive model. We should make an attempt together to create a liberating path on the basis of the high humanistic values that we search together. Education is also a communication process Therejore, essentially, the communication conditions should he applied in the field qj education. This is expected to create a liberating path to empower adult learners.

Abstract

Learning is an activity to prepare learners to develop their potentials so that they are able to live the life. For the learning to take place to the optimunt a good preparation and a good plan are necessary in order that learning materials, including their carry-over effects are meaningful and prepare learners' life. The carry-over effects of the learning of organism action ­interaction at senior high schools are related to the necessity of conducting education with individual and social values. Individual values such as persistence, hard work, courage, creativity, logic, activeness and productiveness, tolerance, and intelligence determine the choice. Social values imply that in society there are different types of human being with different characteristics. Therefore, it is necessary jor human beings to know and understand each other to create a balance in order to attain ideals in life.

Abstract

The rapid development of Information and Communication Technology has cultural implications in society. The agenda setting theory, states that media determine people's way of thinking. The agenda setting theory states that media determine people's way of thinking. Due to the strong penetration of media, configures have begun to replace old ones. Media continuously offer a new status, making the popularity oj contemporary heroes more and more significant. As a reference group, heroes are figures with whom the young generation identify themselves. A hero with its conventional meaning is alwavs changing. Formerly, a hero was a figure with an exceptionally charming personality. Nowadays. media have a role to set new objects that the puhhe admire through pseudo-heroism. This is called the involution of the meaning qf heroism. Such a phenomenon becomes a challenge in the field of education to re-actualize the meaning ofa real hero, namely a conscientious hero.

Abstract

Economic policies that spoil only big conglomerates and foreign capitalist and political policies that continously restrict and ignore democratic values and human rights have made lay people and civil power weak Therefore. Non-Government Organizations (NGO) as voluntary organizations, especially in 1990s, tried to enpower the civil people in order to be able to face the government. NGOs made such an attempt to achieve tha aspiratiron of making a civil society into reality, the society is not natural society or political society anymore, but a society in the highest level, namely civil society. It is a society whose members have an independent atlitude, an ability to develop the self, and an ability to restrict the government intervention in the reoliy that they have created as the space of their own activities.

Abstract

All members of a society have rights to receive education (education for all) and what exist in a society can be educational resources (all for education). If such a concept is applied with a full commitment, a learning society will result. A learning society can reflect an educated society, which can be attained through formal or non formal institutions. An educated society will produce morale and ethics, and a society with morale and ethics is one with a character and a self-esteem as a nation. It is what people in the world aspire.

Abstract

Theoritically and ideally, education is an attempt to humanize human beings. This implies that teachers, lectures, tutors or instructors have to realize it when they are dealing with children (or learners. However. in practice, the opposite sometimes, or even rr/ten, takes place. The dehumanization of children or learners occurs through ways of teaching rhea are authoritarian, distressing, frightening and through other ways not conducive to attempts to develop humanistic potencials. In the context of rduuuion, (in attempt to humanize human beings can be culled the humanization of children or learners. The meaning of humanism in this context can be seen, explicitly or implicitly, as the views from some figures that this article talks about.
