Abstract

Population increasing is one of the phenomena occurring in urban areas. It causes the increase in land use change from open space to be a built-up area. Limitations of open space due to development make agricultural activities rarely found in the urban area. Urban farming is one of the new cultivation methods in agricultural activities and suitable to developed on limited land. The aquaponic’s concept as one of the urban farming combines fish and vegetable cultivation. The development of aquaponic concepts can support sustainable development and address urban issues. Therefore, this study aims to identify the characteristics of urban agriculture and analyze the role of urban agriculture in supporting the sustainable urban development. This research case study located Semarang City and the research method used quantitative descriptive. The result of this research are: a) Characteristics of urban farmers in urban areas are between 30-50 years old, men, married, high school, and family members more than 4 peoples. b) Characteristics of urban agricultural activities in urban areas do not require extensive land, landowner status, vertical farming, and urban agriculture are used for personal use. Urban agricultural activities can support sustainable urban development during urban agriculture can provide economic benefits in additional income, social benefits in using of leisure time and mutual assistance among the community, environmental benefits in optimizing the use of open space, reducing air pollution, appending home aesthetics, and improve the environmental quality

Abstract

The Development in Indonesia is currently growing very rapidly accompanied by a variety of issues that arise. One of the important issues in Development in Indonesia is the low implementation of the Sustainable Water Supply System in water supply buildings. This study aims to analyse internal and external factors (SWOT Analysis) related to the Implementation of Keburejo Regional Water Supply System in Central Java. Study locations are in Kebumen District and Purworejo District. Regional Water Supply System is one of the regionalization Water Supply System programs involving 2 districts, namely Kebumen District and Purworejo District with raw water total capacity of 600 liters/second. From the development of the Keburejo Regional Water Supply System, the total can serve 48.000 home connection or 240.000 people. Data analysis method used in this research is descriptive analysis through SWOT matrix, data collection is obtained by interview, observation, and study planning documents. After identification, the results of the analysis show that by using SWOT analysis the position of Keburejo Regional WSS is in quadrant II, meaning that the implementation of Green WSS is in good condition, to improve these conditions it is necessary to develop WSS strategies. The development strategy that is suitable to be applied to the Green WSS Implementation in the Keburejo Regional WSS is to use the SO strategy. The SO strategy is carried out by utilizing the strengths of the Keburejo Regional WSS to capture the current opportunities for WSS development.

Abstract

A francis turbine is one type of water turbine that serves to convert water energy into electrical energy. Peformance inprovements in the francis turbine are influance by seferal factors and one of them is the number of guide vanes Francis turbine is one type of water turbine that aims to convert water energy into electrical energy. Performance improvements in the francine turbine are influenced by several factors, and one of them is the influence of the number of guide vanes or commonly referred to as the steering angle which serves to direct the flow coming from the pipeline to the turbine runner. The presence of a guide on a francis turbine is essential for improving the performance of the francis turbine, since the guide vane is a major component of the francis turbine and with guide vane fluid flowing from the drain can be well directed towards the runner. The addition of the number of guide vane is used to obtain optimal results. The francis turbine testing system used to support this research consists of three variations of 5, 8, and 10 guides vane. From the results of this study obtained for the number of guide vane 5 by producing the largest mechanical power that is equal to 98,037 W, and for guide vane 10 produces 80,576 W while the guide vane 8 produces the highest mechanical power of 80.884 W. For the best overall performance is obtained from the number of guide vane 5 because the power generated is greater.

Abstract

The large population growth requires Indonesia to continue to build new power plants by utilizing the diversity of energy resources in Indonesia. PLTA is an integrated power system in a dam by utilizing the mechanical energy of the water flow to rotate the turbine. The francis turbine is one of the important components of hydropower that serves to convert or convert the potential energy form that water possesses into mechanical energy. Water flowing from the pipeline from a certain height can convert to pressure energy before entering the guide vane and some of the pressure energy is converted into kinetic energy as it passes through the guide vane. Some of that energy will drive the shaft or runner. The pipeline that serves to direct the flow before entering the spiral case can be varied by the number of single pipes up to three pipelines. The francis turbine is designed in a laboratory scale with a runner dimension of 30 cm and the number of 10 blades has a pipe dimension of 8.9 cm. The test results show that the trendline when using 2 pipelines is better than the other pipeline variation with the highest efficiency value of 6.2%.francis turbine

Abstract

High rates of mercury contamination were found in traditional gold mining areas. This problem might occur due to the use of amalgamation process in gold extraction process done in traditional gold mining areas by dissolving the gold-bearing rocks with mercury (Hg). The use of mercury in the gold mining activity has contaminated the water with Hg which might lead to serious health problems. This research was done by discharging the wastewater contaminated by Hg to enter a system called the Sub-Surface Flow Constructed Wetland (SSF-SW). The system employed a mixture of soil and the fibers of water hyacinth as the media which media was also planted with Echinodorus palaefolius L. The research was done by flowing the wastewater containing HgCl2 at 8.59 mg/L. The experiments applied flow rate at 6.3 L/hour and pH between 6-7 in room temperature. Samples were collected at hour 0; 3.5; 7; 10.5 every day. The SSF-CW system was continually run for 10.5 hours and 13.5 hour batch. The result of this research showed the efficiency of Hg removal reached 92.798%. The percentages of Hg accumulation in Echinodorus palaefolius L. were found at 65.96% in the roots, 18.75% in the stems, and 15.29% in the leaves. This research found that the SSF-CW offers a stable system to reduce the mercury levels as shown in the growth of the plant and the total Hg removal efficiency. Plants with Hg exposure have distinct patterns of chlorosis. Some leaves turning yellow and die, others start with new growth. In addition, the growth of Echinodorus palaefolius L. was also influenced by the amount of nutrients in the soil. The rate of metal transfer from the roots to the buds of mexican sword plants was found at 0.236. This research found that the SSF-CW offers a stable system to reduce the mercury levels as shown in the growth of the plant and the total Hg removal efficiency. Plants with Hg exposure have distinct patterns of chlorosis. Some leaves turning yellow and die, others start with new growth. In addition, the growth of Echinodorus palaefolius L. was also influenced by the amount of nutrients in the soil.

Abstract

This study aims to design an Anaerobic Up Flow Filter system processing tool. This tool is used to analyze the liquid waste of tofu industry which is used to determine differences in levels of BOD, COD, and SS before and after processing. This tool is also used to determine the effect of variations in processing debit and processing capability of the Anaerobic Up Flow Filter system on decreasing levels of BOD, COD, and SS according to applicable quality standards. The collection of tofu wastewater used the method for a moment in dry season. Verification of processing results is carried out at Environmental Engineering Laboratory of IST AKPRIND Yogyakarta. BOD levels after processing on all filter media were still above the quality standard threshold according to DIY Governor Decree No. 281 / KPTS / 1998. While the levels of COD and SS in activated charcoal filter media are still above the quality standard threshold according to DIY Governor Decree No. 281 / KPTS / 1998. The design of this tool produced a significant difference, namely the effect of discharge variation on Anaerobic Up Flow Filter processing are BOD 90.13%, COD 95.81% and SS 88.53%. The filtered sand and gravel media results result in meeting the quality standards, but for filter media the activated charcoal has not met quality standards.

Abstract

The south coast of Java area which is known as barrend land and has no economic value for agricultural land, this area has big potential for aquaculture like shrimp farm, and from 2001 pilot project shrimp farm expanded to two districts in Central Java namely Kebumen Districts and Purworejo Districts (Dwi, 2017). Based on data from Kebumen Regional Agency for Integrated Licensing Services Investment Board, in 2016 there were 300 shrimp farms scattered in several sub-districts and villages (http://www.kebumenekspres.com/2016/).As one of the activities in the coastal mainland, pond fishery management are often lack of attention about natural resources capabilities with preservation of ecosystems and environment (Yustiningsih, 1996, dalam Libriyanto, 2008). Feeding rate used in shrimp ponds generate organic waste that can pollute the aquatic system (Hongsheng et al, 2008 dalam Fahrur et al, 2016).According to the Decree of the Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries No: Kep. 28/MEN/2004 about general instruction shrimp cultivation in ponds, some parameters that require management BOD, NH3 dan PO4. The planned processing alternatives in this pre-designed consist of Sequencing Batch Reactor, anaerobic biofilter,basin of water collectors that functions as well chlorination tub and mud dryer tub. The test results of characteristics of shrimp pond wastewater parameters BOD5 : 152,87 mg/L, NH3 : 25,25 mg/L , PO4-3 : 1,0578 mg/L with processing capacity 325 m3/day requires land area 232,41 m2 and Calculation of the cost budget plan based on the price of the work unit (HSPK) Kebumen Region 2016 generate a total cost of Rp. 328.951.329,-

Abstract

Rising sea levels and land subsidence in Semarang caused several areas in Semarang suffering of tidal floods (sea water intrusion). This problem can be found mainly in the areas close to the sea.The rate of subsidence in the Tanjung Emas port area is 13.5 cm / year. This has an impact on the residential areas nearby where the areas often hit by tidal floods.One of the settlements that is often hit by tidal floods is Kemijen village, situated in the North Semarang sub-district, Semarang City. Landfilled is te practical solution that is carried out by the residents to elevate the floor of the house so the house can be free from tidal flooding. However, this is temporary solution because every 5 years the floor must be elevated again.One solution for the house structure system adapt tidal flooding is the stage house system. However, along with the rate of land subsidence and rising tidal flood water level, the floor level of the house's stage will become closer to the tidal flood water surface. In order to overcome the rising water level, the alternative construction that can be done is by applying "hydraulic floor construction". The hydraulic floor means the floor of the house which can be raised manually by using jack tool. To facilitate the process of raising the floor (hydraulic process), a 3x3 meter floor size module is determined so that the hydraulic process can be carried out optimally.

Abstract

Pranajiwa (Euchresta horsfieldii (Lesch.) Is one type of plant that has the potential to be developed as a raw material of herbal medicine.This species grows on the coast, especially in Parang Kusumo and surroundings.These plants include those that will be planted in the type test as well as an ex-situ conservation plot in the Bunder Forest Park, Gunungkidul at the end of 2018. This research wants to know more about the status of research this type is using literature review method from book, proceedings, Journal of both print and online, supported by data of seed evaluation in seedbed in Center for Forest Biotechnology and Tree Improvement, Yogyakarta with diameter, height and robustness of seed. Evaluation of seedlings in the seedbed obtained an average diameter of 0.78 cm, average a height of 65.58 cm, and the average robustness of seeds 8.4. This parameter data shows that the seedlings are ready to plant with high robustness to be tested with other types and whether Pranajiwa species can grow well in Gunung Kidul. In addition, this ex-situ conservation plot is also an effort to conserve biodiversity for the good utilization of social, economic and cultural aspects of Yogyakarta society in the future.

Abstract

Concrete structurally has big compression strength, but it has weaknesses in lower tensile strength and fragile in nature. These weaknesses can be improved by adding steel fiber into concrete mixture evenly with random orientation. The objective of this research is to find out and study the influence of fiber fraction volume to the compression strength and tensile strength concrete. The objects to test consist of 24 fiber concrete cylinders with dimension of 150 mm x 300 mm for compression strength test and tensile strength. The fiber used local fiber (from steel wire with lf/df 60), with fiber fraction volume values of 0%; 0.2%; 0.4%; and 0.6% and the addition of 0.4% superplasticizer from cement weight for respective fraction volumes. Time testing done at the time when concrete was 28 days. The results showed that the addition of steel wire fiber in the concrete mixture reduced the level of workability of the concrete mixture. The statistic test results showed improvements of compression strength and tensile strength, of the fiber concrete fraction volume 0.4%. The increase of compression strength concete reached at the volume of 0.4 % fraction of 20,8132 % with the value of 33,40243 MPa and tensile strength concrete reached at the volume of 0.4 % faction of 3.24 % with the value of 2,9227 MPa.
