Abstract

Reading comprehension remains a persistent challenge in English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction, particularly when secondary learners engage with complex expository genres such as analytical and hortatory exposition. Although story mapping strategies have been extensively validated within narrative reading context, their pedagogical efficacy in structuring expository text comprehension remains underexplored. This pre-experimental study investigated the effect of the Story Mapping strategy on the reading comprehension achievement of eleventh-grade EFL students at MAN 1 Pekanbaru, Indonesia. Utilizing a one-group pretest-posttest design, thirty-two students selected via cluster random sampling participated in a four-session instructional intervention integrating graphic-based story mapping techniques. Data were collected using a validated 32-item multiple-choice test evaluating five comprehension dimensions: main idea identification, detailed information extraction, reference recognition, inferential reasoning, and vocabulary in context. Non-parametric analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test revealed a statistically significant improvement in reading performance from pre-test (M = 31.15, SD = 6.42) to post-test (M = 54.59, SD = 12.18), with Z = -4.791 and p < .001. Normalized Gain analysis (N-Gain = 0.33) demonstrated moderate pedagogical effectiveness. These findings confirm that adapting story mapping as a structural visual organizer significantly facilitates schema activation and text-base mental model construction in expository reading.

Abstract

This study examined changes in women’s basic pattern-making skills after problem-based learning among 19 Grade XI Fashion students at SMK Pangeran Antasari. A quantitative pre-experimental approach employed a one-group pretest–posttest design with total sampling. Performance tasks assessed bodice and sleeve patterns at a 1:4 scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Shapiro–Wilk test, the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and normalized gain. Mean scores increased from 76.79 to 86.71. The differences were not normally distributed (p = .001), and the Wilcoxon test indicated a significant difference (Z = −3.830; p < .001). All students improved. Mean normalized gain was 0.40577, indicating moderate improvement; 15 students showed moderate and four low gains. Problem-based learning was followed by improved skills in this group, although the absence of a control group prevents isolation of its causal effect.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to enhance students' motivation to learn mathematics at SMP Negeri 2 Sidoarjo in the eighth grade by creating interactive learning media based on Augmented Reality (AR). This research uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, which includes the stages of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. This learning media is incorporated into the eighth-grade mathematics curriculum and tested by experts to ensure that it is effective and useful in the classroom. Consisting of 36 eighth-grade students, the research subjects were validated by three experts. The learning motivation questionnaire, practicality questionnaire, and observation sheet are the research instruments. The validation results show that the media is very feasible to use, with an average validation score of 92.3%. Additionally, the effectiveness test with pre-test and post-test indicates that the experimental group has higher learning motivation compared to the control group, with a t-test result sig (2-tailed) = 0.000 (p < 0.05). This study found that AR-based interactive learning media increases students' desire to learn mathematics and enhances their understanding of concepts. In addition, this media is suitable for use as a technology-based learning innovation in junior high schools.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop sustainable vests from textile waste using hand appliqué embroidery and describe their feasibility and consumer appeal. Research and development employed the 4D model, limited to Define, Design, and Develop. Three vests were produced from cotton scraps, denim, and combinations of used clothing and kebaya scraps. Data were collected through observation, documentation, expert assessment, and questionnaires completed by 15 consumers. Two experts assessed each vest using 15 items on a five-point scale. Recalculated expert feasibility scores were 89.33%, 89.33%, and 97.33%, with an overall score of 92%. Recorded consumer totals were 961, 990, and 1,006. Consumer percentages require reconciliation because the questionnaire contains 15 items whereas the summary uses a 14-item maximum. The products demonstrate the feasibility of combining textile reuse and hand embroidery; broader consumer acceptance and environmental benefits require further testing.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze a model of post-disaster resilience and sustainability of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) based on adaptive capability, risk management, and digital transformation in Langkat Regency. This study employed a quantitative approach using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The research variables consisted of adaptive capability, risk management, digital transformation, MSME resilience, and MSME sustainability. The results showed that adaptive capability, risk management, and digital transformation had positive and significant effects on MSME resilience, with path coefficients of 0.310, 0.280, and 0.340, respectively. MSME resilience also had a positive and significant effect on MSME sustainability, with a path coefficient of 0.390. Furthermore, all three independent variables had direct and significant effects on MSME sustainability. The mediation analysis indicated that MSME resilience partially mediated the relationships between adaptive capability, risk management, digital transformation, and MSME sustainability. The R² value of 0.624 indicates that the model explains 62.4% of the variance in MSME resilience, while the R² value of 0.687 indicates that 68.7% of the variance in MSME sustainability is explained by the model. These findings confirm that strengthening adaptive capability, risk management, and digital transformation through enhanced resilience is important for supporting the sustainability of post-disaster MSMEs in Langkat Regency.

Abstract

Economic growth is one of the important indicators in describing the performance of regional development, especially in the Java Island region which has a large contribution to the Indonesian economy. However, differences in labor market conditions, price stability, quality of human resources, investment, government spending, and poverty can cause variations in economic growth between regions. This study aims to analyze the influence of the Open Unemployment Rate, inflation, investment, Human Development Index, local government capital expenditure, and the number of poor people on economic growth in six provinces on the island of Java during the period 2015–2025. The research uses panel data analyzed using the Fixed Effect Model (FEM). The results of the study show that the Open Unemployment Rate, Inflation and the Number of the Poor have a negative and significant effect on economic growth, respectively. The Human Development Index has a positive and significant effect. The number of poor people has a negative and significant effect. Meanwhile, investment and capital expenditure do not show a significant influence. In addition, all independent variables in this study simultaneously had a significant effect on economic growth from the R2 value, it was shown that the independent variable was able to explain 65.9% of the variation in economic growth. The findings show that the variation in economic growth in six provinces of Java Island is related to labor market conditions, price stability, quality of human development, and socio-economic conditions of the community.

Abstract

Gold consignment has emerged as a rapidly growing business model in the trade of precious metals and jewelry, operating through both physical retail outlets and digital platforms. As a ribawi commodity, gold possesses specific legal characteristics that require careful contractual arrangements to ensure compliance with the principles of Islamic economic law. This article aims to analyze the concept of gold consignment from the perspective of Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh muʿāmalāt), identify the most relevant contractual structures, and examine its implementation in modern business practices along with the associated legal challenges. This study employs a qualitative method with a normative-descriptive approach, based on a comprehensive literature review of classical and contemporary fiqh sources, fatwas issued by the National Sharia Council of the Indonesian Council of Ulama (DSN-MUI), as well as regulations related to trade and consumer protection. The analysis focuses on assessing the conformity of gold consignment practices with fundamental principles of Islamic economic law, including justice, trustworthiness, transparency, and the prohibition of ribā and gharar. The findings indicate that gold consignment is, in principle, permissible under Islamic economic law, provided that it is governed by clear, consistent, and non-contradictory contractual arrangements. The most appropriate contractual structure is a combination of wadiʿah (safekeeping) and wakālah bi al-bayʿ (agency to sell), with ujrah as a legitimate service fee. Nevertheless, the implementation of gold consignment in modern business settings continues to face several challenges, such as contractual ambiguity, exposure to gold price volatility, and inadequate consumer protection, particularly in digital transactions. This article contributes a normative conceptual framework for gold consignment contracts that aligns with Islamic economic law and remains adaptive to the dynamics of modern business practices.

Abstract

Education not only aims to impart knowledge, but also to develop students' potential, character, independence, and social skills. One approach that supports this goal is Student-Centered Learning (SCL), which places students as the main subjects in the learning process. This approach has a strong connection with Ki Hadjar Dewantara's thinking regarding education as a process of guiding children according to their nature and potential. This article aims to describe the implementation of SCL, analyze the role of teachers, and examine its relevance to the principles of Ing Ngarsa Sung Tuladha, Ing Madya Mangun Karsa, and Tut Wuri Handayani. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach through observation, interviews, and documentation at MAN 2 Model Medan. The results of the study indicate that teachers act as facilitators, guides, motivators, role models, and companions. Teachers provide space for students to ask questions, discuss, express opinions, explore information, solve problems, and develop their potential independently. The application of Ki Hadjar Dewantara's principles has proven relevant to the needs of students in the digital era, as long as the freedom to learn is accompanied by direction, responsibility, and character building.

Abstract

This study investigates the determinants of tourism economic resilience by examining the roles of tourism quantity and tourism quality in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. While previous studies predominantly emphasize tourist arrivals as the main driver of regional economic growth, limited attention has been paid to tourism quality indicators such as hotel occupancy rates and average length of stay. Using balanced panel data from five districts/cities during 2015–2024, this study employs panel data regression to analyze the effects of tourist arrivals, hotel occupancy rates, average length of stay, hotel capacity, and the post-pandemic period on the Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) of the accommodation and food service sector. Model selection through the Chow and Hausman tests indicates that the Fixed Effects Model is the most appropriate estimation approach. The findings reveal that tourist arrivals, average length of stay, and hotel capacity positively and significantly influence sectoral GRDP, whereas hotel occupancy rates exhibit a significant negative relationship. Meanwhile, the post-pandemic recovery period does not have a statistically significant independent effect after controlling for tourism indicators. These findings extend the Tourism-Led Growth Hypothesis by demonstrating that tourism quality, particularly longer visitor stays, contributes more substantially to regional economic resilience than increasing visitor numbers alone. The study provides policy implications for promoting quality-oriented tourism strategies to enhance local value creation and sustainable regional economic development.

Abstract

Consumer confidence plays a crucial role in driving household consumption and maintaining regional economic stability, particularly during periods of economic uncertainty. This study aims to examine the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, inflation, tourist arrivals, exchange rates (BI Rate), and the Regional Minimum Wage on the Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. The study employs a quantitative approach using monthly time-series data covering the period from 2018 to 2025, obtained from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Bank Indonesia (BI), and other official institutions. The analysis applies the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model, which enables simultaneous estimation of both short-run and long-run relationships among variables integrated at different orders, namely I(0) and I(1). The empirical findings indicate that consumer confidence exhibits strong persistence, implying that previous consumer perceptions significantly influence current confidence levels. In the short run, the COVID-19 pandemic and exchange rate depreciation have significant negative effects on consumer confidence, whereas inflation and tourist arrivals positively and significantly affect the Consumer Confidence Index. Meanwhile, the BI Rate and the Regional Minimum Wage do not have statistically significant effects on consumer confidence. These findings support the life cycle hypothesis theory, suggesting that household consumption decisions and consumer confidence are primarily shaped by expectations of permanent income and future economic prospects rather than temporary macroeconomic shocks. The study highlights the importance of maintaining macroeconomic stability, promoting tourism recovery, preserving exchange rate stability, and controlling inflation within a manageable range to strengthen consumer confidence and support sustainable regional economic growth.
