Community Services is an implementation activity of science, technology and cultural arts directly to the community institutionally through scientific methodology as a translation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education,as well as the responsibility of scientists in efforts to develop community capacity, so as to accelerate the pace of growth in achieving development goals. So that community services can be done affectively and efficiently, it is necessary to conduct research before and after its implementation. The Scope of Community Service includes the following fields of activity: The development of technological science and art into products that can be directly utilized by the community. Training services, economic empowerment of communities to become independent, and the development of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) Dissemination of science, technology and cultural arts is a product that needs to be known and utilized by the community. This effort can be done through various ways such as providing counseling, providing pilots, demonstrating, and publishing media publications. Placement of science and technology correctly and appropriately according to the situation of the people and the demands of development. Providing assistance to the community in identifying problems faced and finding alternative solutions by using a scientific approach. Providing professional services to the community in various problem areas that require careful handling by using expertise and skills that are not yet owned by the community concerned.

Abstract

Building community economic independence is a strategic priority for achieving inclusive and sustainable development, particularly in developing regions where access to economic resources remains unequal. This study aims to develop a conceptual framework that integrates capacity-building training and micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) development as key drivers of community economic empowerment. The research employs a qualitative approach based on systematic literature review and conceptual synthesis to identify the main variables and relationships influencing economic independence. The findings indicate that capacity-building training plays a fundamental role in enhancing entrepreneurial capacity, including knowledge, skills, attitudes, and self-efficacy. This improvement subsequently contributes to MSME development, reflected in increased productivity, innovation, business growth, and financial performance. Furthermore, the relationship between capacity building and MSME development is strengthened by mediating factors such as social capital, mentoring, and institutional support, which facilitate collaboration and resource accessibility. External factors, including government policies, access to finance, and digitalization, also influence the effectiveness of these relationships. The study concludes that community economic independence is achieved through a comprehensive and integrated process involving internal capacity development and external ecosystem support. The proposed conceptual framework provides both theoretical and practical contributions by offering a systematic approach to designing sustainable community empowerment programs.

Abstract

The role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in strengthening community economic independence has become increasingly important, particularly in developing countries. However, many MSMEs still face challenges related to limited managerial capacity, low financial literacy, and ineffective business strategies. This study aims to analyze the effect of capacity-building training services on community economic independence, with MSME development strategies acting as a mediating variable. A quantitative approach was employed using Structural Equation Modeling–Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to test the relationships among variables. The results indicate that capacity-building training services have a significant positive effect on MSME development strategies and community economic independence. Furthermore, MSME development strategies significantly influence economic independence, demonstrating their role in improving business performance and sustainability. The mediation analysis reveals that MSME development strategies partially mediate the relationship between training services and economic independence, indicating that training becomes more effective when translated into practical business strategies. This study highlights the importance of integrating training programs with strategic implementation to achieve sustainable economic outcomes. The findings provide both theoretical and practical contributions by emphasizing the role of strategy as a key mechanism in transforming capacity building into economic independence. Therefore, policymakers and practitioners are encouraged to design training programs that focus not only on knowledge transfer but also on the development of actionable business strategies.

Abstract

Appropriate technology has emerged as a strategic approach to address community development challenges, particularly in resource-constrained environments. However, many technology-based initiatives fail due to a mismatch between proposed solutions and actual community needs, as well as limited integration of local potential and participation. This study aims to develop a conceptual framework for appropriate technology that is grounded in community needs, local resources, and participatory principles. The study adopts a qualitative and conceptual approach by synthesizing findings from previous literature related to community-based development and appropriate technology. The framework is structured through three main stages: identifying community needs, analyzing local potential and resources, and designing appropriate technology based on user-centered and context-based principles. In addition, the framework incorporates participatory processes and multi-stakeholder collaboration to enhance implementation effectiveness. The results indicate that appropriate technology designed with simplicity, affordability, and adaptability can improve relevance, usability, and sustainability. The integration of local materials, skills, and cultural values strengthens community self-reliance, while participatory approaches foster ownership and increase adoption. Furthermore, the proposed framework demonstrates potential impacts on both economic and social dimensions, including increased productivity, expanded economic opportunities, improved skills, and stronger community engagement. In conclusion, this study highlights that appropriate technology should be viewed not only as a technical solution but also as a strategic tool for empowering communities and supporting sustainable development. A holistic approach that integrates local context, resources, and participation is essential to ensure long-term success and scalability.

Abstract

The transformation of scientific innovation into real technological solutions remains a critical challenge in bridging the gap between research and societal impact. This study aims to analyze how innovation evolves from laboratory-based knowledge creation to widespread societal adoption through a systematic literature review. The research identifies key stages in the innovation transformation process, including knowledge creation, technology transfer, research commercialization, and innovation diffusion, and examines how these stages interact within a broader innovation ecosystem. The findings reveal that innovation transformation is a non-linear and dynamic process influenced by multiple factors, including institutional support, policy frameworks, and digital transformation. Technology transfer and knowledge exchange serve as essential mechanisms that connect scientific research with industrial application, while commercialization enables the translation of innovations into market-ready solutions. Furthermore, innovation diffusion determines the extent to which these solutions are adopted and generate economic and social value. The study also highlights the growing role of digital technologies, particularly artificial intelligence, in accelerating innovation processes and enhancing collaboration across sectors. However, the effectiveness of these technologies depends on organizational readiness and ecosystem alignment. Overall, the research proposes a holistic perspective on innovation transformation, emphasizing the importance of integrating technological, institutional, and societal dimensions to achieve sustainable and impactful outcomes.

Abstract

Innovation plays a crucial role in improving community welfare by enhancing economic productivity, expanding access to essential services, and fostering social development. However, despite the growing body of research on innovation, a significant gap remains between research outcomes and their practical implementation. This study aims to evaluate the research–implementation gap and analyze how innovation impacts community welfare through a systematic literature review approach. The study synthesizes findings from various academic sources to identify key themes, including the impact of technological and social innovation, barriers to implementation, and strategies to bridge the gap between research and practice. The results indicate that while innovation has strong potential to improve welfare, its effectiveness is often limited by factors such as inadequate infrastructure, low technological literacy, lack of institutional support, and misalignment between research outputs and real-world needs. Additionally, implementation challenges arise from organizational resistance, policy constraints, and insufficient collaboration among stakeholders. The findings also highlight that successful innovation implementation requires an integrated approach involving multiple actors, including governments, academia, industry, and communities. Strategies such as strengthening collaboration, promoting evidence-based policymaking, enhancing community capacity, and developing adaptive evaluation frameworks are essential to ensure that innovation can be effectively translated into practice. In conclusion, bridging the research–implementation gap is critical to maximizing the benefits of innovation for community welfare. Future research should focus on developing practical frameworks and context-specific strategies to support sustainable innovation adoption and implementation.
