Abstract

This writing is trying to elaborate Government’s policy in teaching English of primary and secondary school in Indonesia. The literacy has been developed not only read and write but also furthermore use the knowledge in order to help student role in society. It is revealing some theories and techniques that are supporting the literacy approach until in the classroom. It is suggested to the teacher to enrich not only their capacity in the professional competencies but also developing their pedagogy capacity in order to implementing national curriculum 2013 that is projected to change the language teaching paradigm from literacy approach which gives the students opportunity to use the information from what they read and write to scientific approach that gives students chance to develop their intelligence to higher order thinking in learning language and expected in using it in proper way as life skills equipment in facing the rapid changes of global society system in the near future. In brief, it can be determined that scientific approach is in the language learning process environment; meanwhile literacy approach is concerned to the language learning results framework. It is expected that teachers can understand and act in the classroom as the literate teacher.  Keywords: Literacy skills, scientific approach, TEFL curriculum.

Abstract

This study discusses the reality in the society of Klapadhuwur village Blora regency in accordance with the use of Javanese language based on the distribution of speech level variation or undha usuk basa, which is divided into thre, namely ngoko, madya, dan krama. This study aims to describe the choosing of speech level (undha usuk)of Javanese language on the native people of Klapadhuwur village Blora regency. Data were collected using simak and cakap method. The writer also conducted observation which was done based on observer’s paradox, i.e observing how people spoke when they did not realize that they were being observed, so the speeches used were natural and genuine. At data analysis stage, equal method or identity method was used. The method of data analysis result presentation used informal method, namely formulation using ordinary words. The researcher concluded that language is the reflection of the users’ culture since the language itself is part of culture. The existence of the very complex and extensive speech level system in Javanese language can be considered as the sign of the importance of  pentingnya courteousness composed in personal relationship system on Javanese people. On Klapadhuwur society, language style of ngoko is chosen to communicate at the informal activities, while at formal situation Javanese language of krama is used concurently with the use of Indonesian language.  Keywords: speech level, Javanese language, society, sociolinguistics

Abstract

Mostly, a literary work is a unified whole of art, whereas in art, there are visual and invisible meaning created by its maker. Thus, as a unified whole of art, the meaning of a literary work can be understood through its parts or its composer elements if we can find the reciprocal relationships of the parts so that covering the whole meaning. Any poems, poetry, and prose are fiction works that generally present the world created by the writer through words. The beauty of these works is seen from the entanglement words of language that can be difficult to be comprehended by the reader. As literary study that becomes basic element of research development, structuralism is considered obligatory to be done first. In poetry study using the theory of structuralism, we must pay attention to the elements of poetry because the structuralism study has two main elements in this case are the physical forming as the intrinsic element and the moral message value of any literary works as the extrinsic element. Thus, this research is considered as a kind of flashback study of its composer elements on the classic poetry of Shakespeare.                                                                                                               Keywords: literary work, intrinsic element, extrinsic element, structuralism study

Abstract

Poetry is a unique way to express someone‟s feelings. Sometimes the poetry is the author‟s experience. In writing this research the writer uses two methods, namely method of collecting data and method of approach. The method of collecting data which the writer used is the library research method, in which various sources are collected and also used to support his discussion. In approaching the poetry, the writer uses the objective or the structural approach method and feminism approach method to get deeper understanding of the poem. There are some objectives which the writer wants to achieve in conducting this research. Some of the objectives are to get deeper understaanding on feminism found in N. Josefowitz‟ poem Impressions from an Office, to find out the effects of people social condition and the effects of feminism movement which is growing in America, and to find out the implicit meanings of N. Josefowitz‟ poem mentioned above. Feminism in one hand is a kind of social movement that aims at gender equal relationship.  On the other hand, it is a kind of literary approach. The principle of feminism as literary approach is based on how literary work reflects gender aspects. A poetry written by N. Josefowitz as a kind of literature will be used in this paper as an object of study. By analyzing that poetry, we will understand how feminism as a social movement affects literary approach.  Keywords:   feminism, gender, equality, social, poetry.

Abstract

Life is frequently filled with hope and despair for one reason or another. The similar circumstances occur within Santiago’s self. Old Santiago as the protagonist of the story experiences despair when he stumbles upon hardships and difficulties on his ocean’s voyage. His conflict is not against other characters but against nature instead. On one hand, he must fight against ocean’s roaring big wave and menacing gigantic shark that is following him during his fish catching. This condition makes him in despair. On the other hand, his hopes come when remembers his God; besides his enjoyment on making friendship with birds following and greeting him in sailing boat. Santiago is a tough sailor and he psychologically is a sanguine and choleric type of person. He is warm and friendly. Besides that he is also open, extrovert and enthusiastic kind of character. As a sanguine he enjoys on whatever God has bestowed upon him. He is insistent on his voyage although his friends remind him with a phrase “salao” that means bad luck. He is not afraid of the so-called bad luck, to him he has motto: ever onward, no retreat.  Keywords: hope and despair, sailing boat, sanguine, kholeric, conflict, nature

Abstract

This research aims at understanding bid’ah definition and its technical application, especiallythe ways to pray for the Lates that in Javanese Islamic culture is called nyadran with its variousblessings (merits) and moral values. The type of this research is library research. The source ofthe data includes hadits from Prophet Muhammad SAW and works from experts that explainmoral values of Javanese Islamic culture and nyadran with its various blessings. The method ofthis research is content analysis with sociological approach that has characteristic as sociologicinterpretation. The result of this research gives understanding about definition, types, andjurisdiction of bid’ah mainly when commemorating somebody’s death through delivering prayercalled as nyadran in Javanese Islamic culture. Abstract

This study aims to build the resilience of coastal women from the threat of HIV / AIDS spreading by using the social capital base as the media. Social capital has very important role forthe life of coastal women. Social capital is built by trust among individuals who interacts oneanother. Mutual trust is established for short time and requires tortuous social processes. The typesof social capital can be understood as follows: first, social networks, voluntary private networks;second, civic engagement and participation and the use of civil networks; third, the identity oflocal citizenship - sense of belonging, solidarity and equality with members of community groups;fourth, the principle of reciprocity and the value of cooperation or collaboration, the sense of dutyto help others and self confidence when accompanying, and; fifth, trust in the community. The type of this study is ethnographic research, that is research that tries to find out, toreveal and to explain cultural behavior of society or community in certain place in detail anddepth. This study uses macth method approach, namely approach method which combinesqualitative and quantitative data. The excavation of qualitative data is done by inclusionobservation and in-depth interview on the informant while the quantitative data is obtained byspreading questionaires on respondent and recording as well as literature study. This researchapproach model is intended to explore qualitative data supported by quantitative data so it enablesto get in depth and detail description of the resilience of coastal women to HIV / AIDS based onsocial capital. This study will be carried out for two years. The first year of research will identifyand map the local social potential of coastal communities in the south of Jember regency. Thesecond year of research activity formulate how the potential of the social capital can be used asmedia of resilience in preventing the spread of HIV / AIDS among coastal women who are said tobe vulnerable groups.Keywords: model, coastal women, HIV/ AIDS, social capital, local

Abstract

Code mixing is a variation of language that we often hear in our dailylanguage life in various situations. The purpose of this research is to describe theform of code mixing used and to explain its usage function in Stand Up Comedyshow in grand final of presenter of PalTV 2017. This research type is descriptivequalitative research. Data collection techniques used are documentation and seenotes techniques. The results of this study show that there are 23 speechesindicated using mixed code in the form of words, phrases, clauses, abbreviations,and poem. Code mixing in the form of words are 20, in the form of phrases are 10(8 noun phrases, 1 adverbial phrase, and 1 verb phrase), in the form of clauseare 4, the abbreviation is 1, and the poem are 2. The function of mixing code is toconvince or to affirm something, to provide information, to increase prestige, togive an intellectual impression, to show knowledge, to adjust the topic of theevent, to show emotional situations, to emphasize things, to compare conditions,to attract attention, to invite others to do something, to invite laughter, to informdifferent conditions, to demonstrate ability, to be used as an opening, and to beused as the closing of an event.Keywords: Code mixing, words, phrases, clauses, abbreviations, poem.

Abstract

Dialect reflects thedaily life of the speaker and becomes the local culture of the people who speak it. This journal contains of the description of a typical dialect of Javanese language in thevillage of Srinahan Kesesi district Pekalongan Central Java Indonesia from sociolinguisticspoint of view. There are many striking differences in dialect used by Srinahan villagers in theborder area of the district and become combination of eastern and western Javanese dialect. Thetypical dialect of Srinahan village community can be seen from the categories of phonology,morphology, and lexical aspects.Keywords: Local Culture, Dialect, Sociolinguistics, Javanese Language.

Abstract

This study entitled Middle Class Victory: A Genetic Structuralism Study on LewisCaroll’s novel Alice's Adventure in Wonderland aims to reveal the social classdivisions and main ideas in Alice's Adventure in Wonderland novel in relation to theEnglish social class of Victorian age. This study uses the theory of GeneticStructuralism initiated by Lucien Goldmann. Thel analysis result shows that thecharacters, background, and the plot of the novel describe the social class division.The main idea of the novel is the victory of the English middle class of Victorian age.Keywords: Character, Background, Flow, Social Class, Victorian Age
