Abstract

Bengkalis City is located on Bengkalis Island, which is the capital of Bengkalis Regency in Riau Province, where most of its administrative area is on the island of Sumatra. In this regard, Bengkalis City is always crowded with people from the island of Sumatra for government affairs, both government agency permits and other legal documents. The purpose of this study is: (1) to find out how the condition of Bengkalis City was at the beginning of the reform. (2) To find out how the social, economic, and educational conditions of Bengkalis City were from 1998–2020. (3) To find out the driving and inhibiting factors for the development of Bengkalis City in 1998–2020. This research is historical. Data were collected through archive study methods, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques use four components of analysis: data compilation, data classification, data processing, and analyzing and interpreting the results. The result of this research is the beginning of reform. Bengkalis District is still lagging. However, after the 1999 Regional Autonomy Law was enacted to manage their households, Bengkalis City began to develop, and the population of Bengkalis City continued to grow from 1998 to 2020. The construction of three ports (domestic and international) could both boost the economy and become an impediment because these ports were the exit points for entry into the City of Bengkalis.

Abstract

The background of this research is that it is still weak and even feels very difficult for history students in writing their final project or thesis. This is due to a lack of understanding of historical research methods. Starting from heuristics to historiography. In order for an understanding of this research method to be carried out properly, it is necessary to have complete understanding of heuristics as a first step. This study uses qualitative research with the steps of observation, researchers see directly the problem and study the literature to examine relevant theories in research. The results of this study obtained that the strategy in the search is bibliographic search, oral source search, artifact search and online source search. Furthermore, the final step is regarding the management of the data sources obtained so that they are arranged periodically.

Abstract

The implementation of the forced cultivation policy in the Dutch East Indies has provided significant changes such as the transition of transportation facilities. This spearheaded the development of railways on the island of Java, one of which was the creation of the Semarang-Juwana railway line built by the Semarang-Joana Stoomtram Maatchappij (SJS) company. So this study aims to analyze the history and development of the Semarang-Juwana railway line built by the Semarang-Joana Stoomtram Maatschappij (SJS) company. This research uses a historical method consisting of four steps, namely heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. The results showed that the presence of the Semarang-Juwana line has also indirectly had an impact on the growth of the area around the train line which is characterized by increasing community mobility and increasing the pace of economic activity of indigenous peoples.

Abstract

The Musi River has an important role in historical periodization in Palembang, especially during the Srivijaya period. However, the role of the Musi river has not been conveyed so often in the concept of learning local history and its relation to maritime affairs. Based on these conditions, this study aims to examine the maritime aspects of the Musi River as a means of learning local history. The method used is a qualitative method using a historical approach. The role of the Musi river in Indonesian maritime needs to be developed for learning local history. This is very important because Sriwijaya's maritime glory was also influenced by the Musi river. This role can be explained through maritime aspects, namely trade, shipping, shipping, maritime traditions, sea mythology, piracy, fisheries, law of the sea. Based on exploring these maritime aspects, the material on the Musi river becomes broader and contextual to be applied in learning local history based on the basic competencies of the curriculum.

Abstract

The study of the dynamics of the student movement during the New Order era is an interesting topic for further research. The dynamic student movement constantly clashes with the structure of society which is often rigid and binding. Clashes between the student movement and the government also occurred during the New Order era. As one of the elements that contributed to the birth of the New Order, the relationship between the student movement and the New Order government actually appeared to be not harmonious. The student movement, which was considered suspended after the disbandment of KAMI in 1969, actually became increasingly heated in the mid-1970s. heated actions held by students led to the enactment of the NKK/BKK policy in 1978. Using historical methods, this research does not only use contemporary newspapers as one of its primary sources, but also the results of interviews with historical actors who were student activists in 1974 -1978.
