Abstract

The low level of scientific proficiency among community members is one of the main causes of underdevelopment. In a number of situations, a strong religious devotion does not always translate into an equally strong desire to learn more about science; rather, the relationship frequently seems inversely proportionate. Because of its long history and widespread local presence, the Tablighi Jama'ah, one of the most active Islamic missionary movements in Central Lampung, makes for an interesting research topic. The purpose of this study is to determine the elements influencing the Tablighi Jama'ah's views on science and to examine their wider ramifications. The study was carried out in Central Lampung Regency using a descriptive qualitative approach. The results show that a religiously grounded collective structure and hierarchy, faith-driven social discipline, a transcendental orientation, and an education system based on religious teachings all influence the group's social construction. Strong normative adherence to authoritative texts and people, a focus on simplicity, and opposition to both local and global cultural influences are characteristics of its cultural production. Because of this, the community offers little social support for scientific involvement, which lowers members' interest in science and presents scientific knowledge as an external field with no cultural significance within its value system.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of education assistance policies on education quality. A quantitative approach using a regression model was used. Education assistance budget data was obtained from Bintan Regency for 2014–2025. Data on education quality indicators were obtained from the Bintan Regency Central Statistics Agency. The analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression across two models: Model 1 for the elementary school level and Model 2 for the junior high school level. The results showed that the amount of education assistance allocation had a significant effect on education development but did not have a substantial impact on literacy rates, gross enrollment rates, or net enrollment rates. At the junior high school level, the regression model was not significant, and no variables were found to be partially significant. These findings indicate that educational assistance improves educational quality only at the elementary school level. This study emphasizes the importance of evaluating education assistance policies to make them more effective in improving educational quality.

Abstract

This study explores the cognitive processes underlying employees’ utterances and conversational dynamics in the specific context of an ATM cash replenishment office from a psycholinguistic perspective. The study's goal is to discover how employees process, organize, and express linguistic information during high-pressure task-oriented interactions. This research adopts a qualitative design. The data consist of employees’ utterances produced in the ATM replenishment office. Data sources include four bank officers, twelve ATM technicians, and ten customers. Data were collected using the participant observation method (simak libat cakap), in which the researcher observed the dynamics and cognitive processes of bank officers’ and ATM employees’ speech through audio recording and note-taking techniques. In-depth interviews were also performed with bank officers, ATM employees, and customers. Following data collection, the analytical process included transcription, data reduction, classification, verification, tabulation, interpretation, and drawing conclusions. The study’s result shows that the employees’s turn taking process, repair prosedures, and utterrance production, has influenced by time constraints, institutional norms, and cognitive load. Furthermore, the study indicates how shared mental models and implicit coordination can help sustain efficiency and accuracy in professional interactions. These resukts broaden the application of psycholinguistic research to organizational communication, especially in financial organizations where precision and clarity are crucial. Aside from its theoretical contribution, this study has practical implications for improving communication training, reducing operational errors, and strengthening teamwork in high-stakes operational settings.

Abstract

In today's digital age, the advent of artificial intelligence technology provides an alternative for master's programme students in writing their theses. However, there are still students who find it difficult to use AI technologies such as ChatGPT in writing their theses. Therefore, this study aims to analyse the needs of master's programme students in writing their theses with the help of ChatGPT. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The participants in this study were 10 master's students in educational technology who were in the process of writing their theses. Participatory observation and in-depth interviews were the data collection techniques used by the researcher. In addition, the data analysis techniques used were reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that master's programme students still need guidance in writing their theses through ChatGPT. This is because ChatGPT guidance can provide students with directions to minimise plagiarism and serve as a supporting tool for thesis writing. This guidance is not limited to face-to-face meetings but also includes guidance that can be used independently. Thus, self-regulated learning on ChatGPT can be an alternative for second-year master's programme students. With self-regulated learning on ChatGPT, students are expected to be able to manage an independent, focused, and continuous learning process in writing their theses.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of the slametan tradition as local wisdom in contextual learning through a literature review of 20 relevant articles. The study was conducted using the systematic literature review method which involves the process of identification, selection, and thematic analysis of articles that contain the development of teaching materials, local cultural integration, and innovative learning approaches. The results of the synthesis show that most of the studies apply ADDIE development and research and development models, as well as utilize the local cultural context as a reinforcement of learning meaning. The integration of cultural values, including the slametan tradition, has been proven to be able to improve concept understanding, cultural literacy, and student learning engagement through learning experiences that are closer to social reality. Previous research also confirms that local wisdom makes a significant contribution to character building, appreciation for diversity, and strengthening cultural identity. However, there is still a research gap related to the systematic use of local traditions in contextual learning in schools. These findings show that the integration of local wisdom needs to be formulated in the form of teaching materials or a more structured learning model. Overall, this study emphasizes the importance of using local culture, especially the slamutan tradition, to enrich the learning context and increase the relevance of the material for students.

Abstract

This study aims to improve students’ vocabulary mastery through the use of crossword puzzles in a classroom action research setting conducted in two cycles. The participants were 25 seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 2 Karau Kuala, whose initial vocabulary proficiency was identified as low based on the pre-test, with the majority scoring within the fair and poor categories. The intervention involved implementing crossword puzzles as a learning medium designed to enhance students’ engagement, motivation, and retention of vocabulary through active learning strategies. Data were collected through pre-tests, formative tests, post-tests, questionnaires, observations, and field notes. The results of Cycle 1 showed a moderate improvement, with students beginning to demonstrate higher levels of participation and vocabulary recall, although some still struggled with understanding instructions. After revising the lesson plan and improving instructional clarity in Cycle 2, students’ vocabulary mastery increased significantly, as evidenced by the rise in students who achieved ratings of 3 and 4 and the absence of students in the lowest category. Qualitative findings also revealed enhanced confidence, reduced learning anxiety, and more collaborative classroom interactions during the learning process. Overall, the study concludes that crossword puzzles are an effective and engaging medium for improving vocabulary mastery among junior high school students. These findings suggest the need for further exploration of digital crossword tools, long-term retention effects, and the application of similar strategies to other language competencies.

Abstract

Private educational institutions, particularly private schools, contribute significantly to effective learning processes and produce graduates meeting user standards through their sustainability and development. The input aspect is empirically the most crucial for the effectiveness of a school's process and output. To achieve a balanced input, schools must offer diverse programs and promotional systems to attract parents to enroll their children. This study investigates how people, price, place, and promotional strategies influence parents' decisions to select Globe National Plus Batam School for their children's education. It also examines the combined effect of these variables on parental choices. To accomplish these research objectives, a mixed-method approach with an Explanatory Sequential Design was employed. Quantitative data was collected through questionnaires from 250 parents, selected using random sampling. Qualitative data was gathered through closed interviews. The research data underwent stages of collection, reduction, presentation, verification, and conclusion. Multiple linear regression and statistical hypothesis testing were used for data analysis. The study's findings reveal that people, price, place, and promotion significantly impact parents' decisions. These results provide valuable insights for private schools to maintain their competitiveness against public schools in Batam City when recruiting new students. By confirming that input people, price, place, promotion significantly predicts parents’ decisions, the research reinforces the importance of input factors as foundational elements for effective school processes and outcomes, supporting and enriching the input‑process‑output paradigm in educational management literature. Furthermore, this research lays the groundwork for future studies to explore potential reciprocal relationships among the independent variables and identify other factors that may have a stronger influence on parents' decisions to enroll their children at Globe National Plus School Batam.

Abstract

This research aims to examine food as a cultural text in the Javanese Village Clean tradition through the perspective of gastrocriticism with a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. A total of 25 selected articles were analyzed using the PRISMA flow to explore how food functions as a symbol, a medium of communication, and a representation of cultural identity in the context of Javanese rituals. The results of the study show that ritual foods such as tumpeng, jenang, and offerings have a construction of meaning related to Javanese cosmology, social solidarity, and community value structure. An analysis of the cultural theories of Barthes, Douglas, and Lévi-Strauss reveals that food is not only an object of consumption, but also a system of signs that negotiates man's relationship with nature, ancestors, and communities. Most previous studies have focused on symbolic or ethnographic aspects, while this study found gaps in the integration of culinary discourse analysis with the dynamics of modernity. These findings confirm the need for a multidisciplinary approach to reading food as a cultural text, while also opening up space for further research on the transformation of traditional culinary meanings in contemporary social change. Thus, this study makes a conceptual and methodological contribution to the development of culinary cultural studies, especially in the context of Javanese rituals.
