The social role of woman in religion contestation and community values tend to be discriminatory and it is not impartial for woman. This research is to elaborate al-Quran perspective in emphasizing the sociological and psychological women through a religious psychology approach. This research used thematic interpretation method by collecting certain verses that have closes meaning based on key term, such as; niswah The data analyses used psychology religion of Henry Nelson Wreman and Maturity Allport theory. The results of this research were: first, the function of woman's social role in al-Qur`an based on woman‟s dignity from various dimensions and social functions. Second, the evidence of woman‟s ability and maturity is, woman has social role‟s variety, like as wives, legal witnesses, political leaders, workers/employers, educators, and members of society. Third, the position of woman (based on socio-historically al-Qur`an) is on strategic function, like as in family, legal, politics, economi, da‟wah and socio-culturual system. Thus, discriminate and subordinated women are clearly contrary to the historical logic of the Qur'an.

Abstract

Benchmarks for ideality for the body that prioritize aspects of physical appearance as well as social demands of the Sasak people who determine women should be able to nyesek or make sesek cloth as a source of value and meaning to the body. This article aims to examine the centrality of the body to explain how the discourse of nyesek is used as a benchmark of female maturity and as a standardization of the ideal wife in the Sasak tribe. This research tries to identify various traditional discourses in the Sasak tribe and study how these discourses function to discipline women. This study also tries to see the views of Sasak women, both the older generation and the younger generation, about the concept of nyesek. This research applies a qualitative descriptive approach. Data obtained through interviews with Sasak women in the range (18-80s). Since most sesek weavers are elderly who can only use the Sasak language, interpreting it into Indonesian requires an interview with a young Sasak tribe. This research seeks to show that the ability of nyesek to be learned by Sasak women not only serves to preserve tradition, but also to encourage women to have an economic role in the family. That is because most of the respondents interviewed were farmers' wives, nyesek was considered as an additional family income, even though its contribution was still small. This research is important because there are still many Sasak women who are not aware of the existence of body control through the discourse contained in the nyesek tradition.

Abstract

Examining about relationship between religious authorities and gender, this article is focused on portraying the life and career of a female cleric in West Sumatra, contemporary Indonesia. This research was conducted by interviewing and using ethnographic techniques towards the leadership of Fauziah Fauzan, Director of Diniyyah Puteri in Padang Panjang City. The findings of this study indicate that religious knowledge was not the only capital to be a female cleric, while leadership played an important role for the formation of women’s religious authority. By combining his ascribed authority with the ability to lead (leadership), Fauziah’s religious authority gained recognition by the community and the state. The longer experience of general education, compared to the background of his religious education, did not become an obstacle for Fauziah in contesting to obtain the religious authority which has traditionally been dominated by men. Using the two main theories of feminism, namely agency and freedom, as used by Saba Mahmood, this article was not only limited to help to understand how Fauziah’s achievements reflected the experience of a Muslim woman turning herself into an ethical subject and could be a community leader, but also a community leader. Her leadership was an alternative model of how a woman could gain religious authority in a Muslim society which was changing due to modernization.

Abstract

This study aims to reconstruct the depiction of heaven which has been closely related to patriarchal culture. This can be proven when the Qur'an touches on the word of hūr which is interpreted feministly as a reward for Muslim, but it is not accompanied by a picture of Muslimah. The case, in fact appearing the patriarchal dimension in the visualization of the Qur'an about eschatological verses. Furthermore, through several other portrayals, men always get more portions - not to say everything - as the object of discussion about the pleasures of heaven verses. In fact, the visualization used by the Qur'an still raises numerous meanings if reviewed through various perspectives, one of which is linguistic and historical analysis. Through the historical approach, it can be seen that the explanation of heaven's visualization is closely related to the things that the Arab Muslim population dreamed of at that time. While based on grammatical aspects, the use of words that generally have a chemistry, in the other hand can be understood neutrally which implies that the message is also directed at women. Because it is reviewed holistically in several other verses, it requires the existence of the unity in interpreting masculine verses, but intended in general. This study, as well as an effort to clarify the point of differentiation between Islamic values and Arabian culture.

Abstract

This paper analyzes women's rights in the thematic interpreter of Surat al-Nisā’. One of the surahs of the Qur'an which uses the name al-Nisā' and is enshrined by Allah as one of the Surahs of the Qur'an. Surat al-Nisā' means “the women” is a form how Islam respect to women.  The name of this surah is “the Women” because the discussions about womanhood are more discussed in this surah than in other surahs. The thematic interpretation of this surah is so important, because this surah is targeting the issues of women who are usually regarded as the marginalized part. The method used is to use a thematic interpretation method, as one form of contemporary interpretation method with the use of classical references such as the books of Tafsīr bil Ma'tsūr about Sura al-Nisā'. The results of this study explain that there are many rights related to women in Surat al-Nisā': equality rights with men are a central issue in this surah. In addition, there are other women’s rights: the right to choose a spouse and the right to inherit and fair treatment. These rights were existed long ago in the beginning of Islam, at a time when women's rights were castrated, not even seen as noble creatures when compared to men.

Abstract

This paper explains a phenomenon of ta’aruf which has been flourishing in the digital world. With the mode of revitalization of pure Islamic teachings and overlaid with the doctrine of hijrah, ta’aruf onlne is a way to invite man and woman to marry without dating. However, this article also explains the other side relating to this phenomenon of ta’aruf which in the process is involved in the practice of commodification. In this connection, there are two focus of studies reviewed in this paper, first, what is the background of the emergence of the phenomenon of online ta’aruf. Second, how the online ta’aruf phenomenon is commodified by its users. Using qualitative methods, research explores various website s and accounts that provide online ta’aruf services. The findings are that online ta’aruf in the digital world has been motivated by the movement of migratory trends in the Muslim community in recent years. However, in its development, online ta’aruf was later commodified by the perpetrators because there were interested people and the market wanted it.
