Abstract

Ta'aruf is an Islamic law that aims to identify potential partners before entering the marriage stage. In this case, ta'aruf is understood as the best way and is very different from courtship because it is able to avoid adultery, the risk of dangerous venereal diseases, and the risk of dangerous actions or other crimes. However, the fact is that ta'aruf also carries a risk of crime, and this only applies to online ta'aruf. The purpose of this study is to find out the background of the perpetrators under the guise of conducting online ta'aruf and the factors that cause fraud in online ta'aruf. In this study, the researchers used a mixed method or a combination of two methods, namely qualitative data in the form of descriptions or exposures and quantitative data in the form of numbers based on surveys. This research method uses a concurrent embedded design, which is a mixed research model that applies one-stage qualitative and quantitative data collection at a time. And researchers used qualitative data as primary data and quantitative data as secondary data. The results of this study indicate that the personality of the perpetrator is the main factor in the occurrence of social deviations in online ta'aruf. The lack of protection against the system and rules for online ta'aruf and the standard of public understanding of online ta'aruf and its deviations (Ikhwan Modus) are supporting factors for the occurrence of cybercrime cases.

Abstract

This qualitative study aimed to investigate how the academic community at a university in Aceh, Indonesia, views the handling of cases of sexual violence on campus. After conducting preliminary research, this research was continued by conducting in-depth interviews with nine students, three lecturers, and two university leaders. Through thematic analysis, this study found that although students are at high risk of becoming victims, some students still deny the potential for sexual violence on campus because of the lack of critical consciousness and the absence of standard rules from the university regarding sexual violence. On another side, the researchers found the emergence of resistance among female students against the sexual violence issue, even though it did not base on critical awareness and collective organization. The implication of this research is the potential for dealing with cases of sexual violence by utilizing the seeds of resistance that arise among students. Future research should explore how the academic community in higher education builds critical awareness in a collaborative and participatory way to deal with the issue of sexual violence.

Abstract

The large number of cases of sexual harassment in Indonesia makes people feel restless in dealing with this issue. Especially in the world of education at the university level, there are many cases of sexual harassment experienced by several students. They are harassed in the campus environment which is carried out between lecturers and students or students with students, so that it disturbs the concerns of other students to carry out education in the campus environment. Therefore, the Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology Nadiem Makarim issued Regulation of the Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology No. 30 of 2021 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence which was just inaugurated on August 31, 2021. Therefore, I conducted a survey by distributing questionnaires to be filled out by the general public and students, especially students to find out whether they understand and the impact of this regulation on the distribution of cases of sexual harassment in Indonesia. Many of them said that sexual harassment on campus was immoral and set a bad example for others. Such action is also a violation of Human Rights. Victims of these actions are generally afraid to report the incident that happened to them to the authorities due to pressure from the campus with frills to maintain the good name of the campus. However, the existence of this binding regulation provides legal protection for victims so that they dare to report acts of sexual harassment within the campus. Many people have the opinion that this binding regulation has a big impact on victims and universities, because the existence of this binding regulation is able to reduce acts of sexual harassment that occur within the campus.

Abstract

In many parts of the world, early marriage is a persisting problem. The number of early marriage in Indonesia increases every year and, if the condition persists, will pose a serious risk for the young brides both physically and mentally. Psychologically, young brides experience burdens and pressures from internal and external sources hence they need tough personality (hardiness) along with the awareness of developing emotional intelligence to overcome this stressful situation. This study aims to determine the relationship between emotional intelligence and hardiness in young brides, with the use of correlational quantitative method. The study involves 34 young brides as subjects, gathered through purposive sampling technique. The research makes use of two scales, namely emotional intelligence scale and hardiness scale. The test results show that there is a significant positive relationship between emotional intelligence and hardiness. This indicates that well-formed emotional intelligence enables young brides to toughly and strongly cope with their marriage life.

Abstract

This paper discusses the practice of sexual violence perpetrated by religious leaders (kyai) against female students in Islamic boarding schools. Using the literature review research method, the researcher dissects the pattern that is often used by kyai in committing sexual violence, how it impacts, and how preventive measures can be taken. The results of this study show that there are two general patterns used by kyai as a tool to commit sexual violence in Islamic boarding schools. The first is the existence of a patriarchal culture that is eternal and has been institutionalized in the pesantren environment. Second, there is an unequal power relationship between the kyai and the santri. The impact experienced is to suffer physically, psychologically, theologically, and sociologically. Therefore, a gender mainstreaming program is needed to create a gender-sensitive and responsive pesantren through sexual education that is integrated into the pesantren curriculum which emphasizes awareness of gender issues and increases awareness for students as a preventive measure against sexual violence in pesantren.

Abstract

This study examines the application of regulations to prevent sexual violence in universities from a gender perspective. There are two research questions examined in this study, how are the dynamics of violence and sexual harassment in the campus environment in Indonesia? How is the implementation of regulations and prevention of sexual violence in universities in Indonesia, from a gender perspective? Methodologically, this study uses a qualitative research type. The data in this study consisted of primary data and secondary data. By using an in-depth analysis based on the sociological theory of gender, this study found two findings; First, one of the crucial issues currently engulfing universities in Indonesia is the proliferation of acts of violence and sexual harassment. There are many factors why cases of sexual crimes on campuses in Indonesia are high, one of the most dominant is the imbalance of power relations at the level of the academic community, between students and elements of the campus community, especially with lecturers. Second, in the perspective of gender sociology, the problems that trigger sexual crimes on campuses in Indonesia can be grouped into two; gender differences that are based on dichotomous views such as patriarchy and the like, as well as gender inequality caused by the unequal distribution of resources at the institutional level. To be able to solve it, it is necessary to have special legislation that explicitly and clearly regulates sexual crimes on campus. In this regard, the application of the Permendikbud No 30 Tahun 2021 concerning the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) in Higher Education contains significant functions and roles in suppressing and minimizing or even eradicating, sexual crimes on campus.

Abstract

Taboo (Pantangan) is part of the oral tradition Konjo language user community in Bulukumba. The local community still adheres to this tradition. The objectives of this research are to: 1) examine the meaning of the oral tradition of abstinence in the community of Bulukumba Regency, and 2) describe the position of women in the Abstinence tradition in the community of Bulukumba Regency in a gender perspective. Qualitative research involving data gathering techniques such as observation and interviews was used in this study. Transcribing the recorded interview data into written form, classifying data/speech based on the form of oral tradition, translating the speech data into Indonesian; examining the meaning of taboo using anthropolinguistic theory, analyzing based on gender theory and drawing conclusions were all used to analyze the data. The results showed that 1) in textual and contextually taboos in the Konjo language user society in Bulukumba mean a form of avoiding disaster (a form of protection), moral and behavioral protection and maintenance of self-identity and symbols of affection. 2) The position of women in the Bulukumba Regency's abstinence tradition is examined from a gender perspective.  Women were in a marginalized position. In the Konjo language-speaking society of Bulukumba, there were certain fundamental disparities between men and women's abstinence.  Women were always analogized as weak objects, easy to do wrong things, so they needed to be regulated by "taboo”.
