Abstract

This study aims to reconstruct the depiction of heaven which has been closely related to patriarchal culture. This can be proven when the Qur'an touches on the word of hūr which is interpreted feministly as a reward for Muslim, but it is not accompanied by a picture of Muslimah. The case, in fact appearing the patriarchal dimension in the visualization of the Qur'an about eschatological verses. Furthermore, through several other portrayals, men always get more portions - not to say everything - as the object of discussion about the pleasures of heaven verses. In fact, the visualization used by the Qur'an still raises numerous meanings if reviewed through various perspectives, one of which is linguistic and historical analysis. Through the historical approach, it can be seen that the explanation of heaven's visualization is closely related to the things that the Arab Muslim population dreamed of at that time. While based on grammatical aspects, the use of words that generally have a chemistry, in the other hand can be understood neutrally which implies that the message is also directed at women. Because it is reviewed holistically in several other verses, it requires the existence of the unity in interpreting masculine verses, but intended in general. This study, as well as an effort to clarify the point of differentiation between Islamic values and Arabian culture.

Abstract

There are not a few Muslims who make the story of Adam and Eve as an argument to consider women as a source of triggering sin. This study aims to find out the Qur'anic view of the story of the expulsion of Adam and Eve from heaven, expressingthe comprehensive view of the Qur'an about the chronology of the exorcism of Adamand Eve and outlining the causes of the expulsion of Adam and Eve from Heaven. This study uses thematic method with Q.S.  An-Nisa  (4): 1 and al-A'raf (7): 22 assources of data. Linguistic analysis was used to analyze the data. The results of thestudy showed that the emergence of this assumption is motivated by several reasons. Among the reasons is the history of Israiliyyat made by the classicalinterpreters as the primary source in interpreting the verses about Adam and Eve, which began at the end of the first century of Hhijriyah. The Israiliyyat narrations which speak of the story of Adam and Eve in general provide information which tends to make Eve a degrading party as well as a source of sin. This understanding ultimately affects the lowering of women's position over men in real life. In fact, if we examine directly the linguistic structure of the text of the verses in the Qur'an and read it holistically, and linked with the maqashid of equality of human creation, we will find that the Qur'an always makes Eve in an equal position with Adam.

Abstract

It was one too many of the lack of information concerning Islam and understanding textual doctrines of Islam,  used to spread out traditional believes considering gender bias.  Gender bias, which is represented in form of women subordination in communal interactions, is generally sparkled by common misperception on viewing women’s role in society, whether it is indigenous or merely derived from social construction. This misperception, of course, has placed men at superior position and crystallized as the culture of patriarchy. Moreover, this unfair patriarchal culture is often employed as approaches in interpreting religious texts that throw women away to the lower level in social status. In her explanation, by mentioning some social and culture of people who lived in Arabic areas, Nawal el Sa’adawi  indicated that gender equity is one of basic principles of al-Qur’an, the main source of religious texts for moslem community. But unfortunately,  that gender-related Qur’anic verses are often misinterpreted and misused. Therefore, she thought that reinterpretation of religious doctrine on women issues is exteremely fundamental. By linguistic literature points of view, Nawal el Sa’adawi tried to described and criticized the traditions of  moslem society in Arabic areas relating to gender bias.  Keywords : Bias Gender, Masyarakat Arab dan BudayaCopyright © 2011 by Kafa`ah All right reservedDOI: 10.15548/jk.v1i1.36

Abstract

This study aims to examine the discourse of virginity represented in Indah Hanaco’s The Curse of Beauty. Sales Promotion Girl (SPG) is one of the professions that are in great demand by women, especially teenagers today. SPG is a woman who has met certain criteria recruited by companies to promote, market and inform consumers of the products. Their work is vulnerable to sexual oppression. This inspired Indah Hanaco in writing her novel. Therefore, there are several issues to be discussed. (1) the form of virginity discourse represented by The Curse of Beauty. (2) the function of virginity discourse in The Curse of Beauty (3) the meaning of virginity discourse represented by Indah Hanaco. This study uses the analysis of form, function, meaning the discourse theory of Michel Foucault. This research shows, virginity is a discourse formed by the social construction of society about women who have never had sexual relations. The form of the discourse of virginity is shown through the story of the taboo of sexual intercourse before marriage or the importance of keeping the chastity (virginity) of women from sex intercourse with a lover. The function of virginity discourse in the novel is as a description of social construction in society about what is a woman's virginity. The meaning of the discourse of virginity represented by Indah Hanaco is that virginity is not a matter of the dignity of women but a matter of oppression of women in this case experienced by the SPG.

Meanwhile, there is no significant implementation of cases of sexual violence in universities. This paper is in order to answer the void regarding the prevention and handling system of sexual violence on campus through regulations and policies implemented by universities. This paper is based on the result of research at the Walisongo Islamic State University in Semarang using descriptive qualitative methods which in extracting data using focus group discussion (FDG), in-depth interviews, and document studies. The results of the study show that: first, the code of ethics becomes an alternative regulation for handling sexual violence on campus as long as there is no regulation on handling sexual violence, although in fact the code of ethics does not contain comprehensively regarding the prosecution of sexual violence cases on campus. Second, campus-owned service institutions that can be used to assist victims of sexual violence are still not optimal and have not been well integrated with the center for gender and child studies (PSGA). Third, the facilities, infrastructure, and space on campus have not supported the creation of a friendly campus with a gender perspective. Fourth, cooperation between leaders and stakeholders in the campus environment is important in creating a campus that is friendly and safe from sexual violence. From these results it can be concluded that in order to create a campus that is safe from sexual violence, an integral effort is needed, both from the leadership commitment, the performance of each unit, as well as public awareness in the campus environmen
