Abstract

This study examines the crucial role of sign language interpreters in assisting deaf individuals as clients. This study reveals a disparity in the Indonesian legal system when it comes to providing support for individuals with hearing impairments (deaf people) compared to the comprehensive framework in the United States, which mandates accommodations through legislation such as the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) and the American Disabilities Act (ADA). This study uses a normative juridical approach, analyzing legal texts, and a comparative framework to identify best practices and deficiencies in the current Indonesian system. The results indicate a lack of legal provisions for sign language interpreters in Indonesia, leading to potential miscommunication and legal misunderstandings among deaf clients. The conclusion emphasizes that notaries, as public officials, are required to optimize their services to the public, reflecting an ethical and professional commitment to providing fair and equal services, even in the face of inadequate legal frameworks. Practical implications suggest that implementing these changes will not only uphold the principles of justice and equality, but also enhance the effectiveness and inclusivity of legal services for the deaf community in Indonesia.

Abstract

This article explores the essence of Japanese philosophy, which has evolved through the convergence of various intellectual traditions, including Shintoism, Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism. These spiritual foundations have deeply influenced Japanese self-perceptions, societal relations, and governance structures. Employing a dialectical method combined with the principle of complementarity, this study examined the development of Japanese philosophy, particularly during the Meiji (1868-1912) and Taisho (1912-1925) periods, highlighting the integration of Western philosophical ideas. Key contributions from thinkers such as Nishida Kitaro, who sought to merge Western concepts with Eastern traditions, are discussed. This study also emphasizes the importance of traditional Japanese arts and bodily synthesis in shaping philosophical thought. The unique ability of Japanese philosophy to adapt and transform diverse intellectual traditions is a central theme, illustrating its capacity to generate new meanings and approaches. The continuous influence of medieval categories and modern developments showcases a holistic approach that integrates both old and new perspectives. This adaptability is crucial in addressing contemporary issues such as the interaction between information culture and historical spiritual traditions. The study concludes that the flexibility and integrative nature of Japanese philosophy, exemplified by figures such as Nishida Kitaro and Imamichi Tomonobu, remain vital for contemporary philosophical discourse.

Abstract

Religious character development is a coaching effort provided by parents to their children, typically initiated at an early age to instill religion and its values as a means of training and developing children to possess good morals, obedience in worship, and noble attitudes and traits both in the present and future. This research aims to investigate the parenting or parenting practices employed in children's lives to foster religious character. The focus of this study is to describe the nurturing and coaching provided by parents to their children as educators in a family setting to form a religious character. This research utilizes a qualitative method with a descriptive approach and is conducted in Tanjung Morawa-A Village. The subjects of the research are parents of early childhood aged 4-6 years. The data collection techniques employed include interviews, observation, and documentation. The data analysis employs Miles and Huberman's method, which involves data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study indicate that parents in Tanjung Morawa-A Village utilize democratic parenting practices in fostering their children's religious character from an early age. Parents employ various strategies to foster their children's religious character, including providing religious education, incorporating religious values in everyday life, setting good examples, and offering advice. The success of the parenting strategies implemented by parents in Tanjung Morawa Village is evidenced by their children's development of noble character traits, such as politeness, honesty, good behavior, and good words, as well as their knowledge of Allah SWT, His Messenger, and His teachings.

Abstract

Graphology, the study of handwriting, has been used to interpret an individual's character and personality. This study examined the application of graphology in assessing the communication and social interaction abilities of deaf people. Deaf individuals face challenges in building social relationships and communicating with others because of their hearing impairment and reliance on nonverbal communication techniques such as sign language. Previous research has explored the potential of graphology in diagnosing attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and mental retardation as well as in revealing the psychological aspects of historical figures. However, few studies have investigated the application of graphology in assessing the counseling needs of deaf individuals. This study employed a qualitative approach to analyze the handwriting samples of deaf participants using graphological techniques. The findings revealed that intensifying and reducing signs in the handwriting of deaf individuals influenced their communication and social interaction abilities. This study highlights the potential of graphology as an alternative assessment tool for understanding the characteristics and conditions of deaf individuals, without relying on oral communication. These results contribute to the field of counseling by providing insights for assessors, such as psychologists and counselors, to develop appropriate interventions and approaches tailored to the unique needs of deaf individuals. Further research is recommended to explore the effectiveness of graphology-based interventions in enhancing communication and social interaction skills of deaf individuals.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the parenting patterns of single and full parents and their impact on child behavior in Sementara, Pantai Cermin Sub-district, Serdang Bedagai Regency, Indonesia. Parenting plays a crucial role in shaping a child's personality and future. Based on Bronfenbrenner's ecological theory, the home environment, especially parental parenting, has the greatest influence on child development. This study focuses on three parenting styles: authoritarian, democratic, and permissive. Authoritarian parenting is characterized by strict rules and limited freedom, while democratic parenting prioritizes the child's interests and involves discussions between parents and children. Permissive parenting provides loose supervision and unrestricted freedom for children to behave and act as they wish. Previous studies have shown that single mothers tend to apply authoritarian parenting, resulting in spoiled children with difficulty interacting, while single fathers tend to apply permissive parenting, leading to more independent children who are easier to make friends. Additionally, authoritarian, democratic, and permissive parenting styles have been associated with aggressive behavior in children, obtained through social learning. Democratic parenting has been found to increase children's motivation and achievement at school, while authoritarian parenting inhibits children's socialization skills. This study provides important insights into the impact of parenting patterns on child behavior in the context of single and full parents in Sementara, Indonesia.
