Abstract

This research was discover the effect of using Discrete-point task towards students’ writing ability. Most of student got difficulties to organize the generic structure of text. This research used experimental research. The researcher used a quasi- experimental design by using the pre-test pos-test control group deisgn. The population of this research was tenth grade of in SMK Cendana Padang Panjang. The sample was X TKJ.1 which was treated as experimental class and taught by using Discrete-point task and X TKJ.2. The researcher used total sampling technique because the population less than a hundred. From the result of the pre-test and post-test scores of the experimental class, it was found that the t-obtained (8.25) was higher than the t-table (1.960). Then, the calculation of post-test both classes: experimental and control classes was obtained the (3.557) was bigger than t table (1.67). For the third hypothsis,  mean score of the experimental class is bigger than control class (77.44 68.5).

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to proof the effect of project-based learning model on students’ achievement in writing Narrative Text at grade X IPS SMA Pangeran Antasari Medan School students in 2021/2022.  This research was quasi-experimental with cause and effect relationship by involving the control-class and the experimental-class. The two classes were given pretest and post-test. The result showed mean of the experimental class was from 56.05 to 80.2 and the controlled class was from 62.1 to 74.0. From hypothetical tests, the significance T-test Sig (p)0.035(a)0.05 and that means Ha 0,05.The controlled class score increased from 62.1 to 74.05 and the critical contrast between the mean scores in controlled class (M 74.055, SD 9.8688), while the experimental class (M 80.159, Sd 8.7281), t(42) 2.173 , p 0.035 d 0.655 ) and tcount 2.137 t????????????le 2.019. By using a project-based-learning model in writing narrative text, the students can investigate and hone their capacity and creativity in writing It demonstrated that the Project-based learning models has given a solid impact on students’ achievement in writing narrative text. The Project-based-learning (PJBL) model effected the students’ achievement in writing.

Abstract

This research is taken to identify students’ perceptions of effective teaching grammar with 30 EFL university students as participants. Questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and reflective notes were used to obtain data in this study.  Quantitative and qualitative analysis were used to analyse data, while data from interviews and reflective notes were transcribed. The results of this study showed that the students’ perception of effective teaching grammar in EFL indicated that students agree (96%) grammar is important for them. Most of the participants (more than 90%) prefer learning grammar through memorizing the rule of the language then followed by a set of examples. Other techniques have been mentioned namely listening to music, songs and poem. Learning by participating in real-life situations than developing their grammatical knowledge is also another technique that has been chosen.

Abstract

This research was aimed to discover students’ difficulties in writing a paragraph in tenth grade. It was done at SMKS Pembina Bangsa Bukittinggi. The researcher found some phenomenon’s that faced students with the difficulty in writing; the students had a lack of vocabulary, some students had difficulty in finding and expressing the ideas, and low motivation in writing. The purpose of the research is to know the level of students’ difficulties in writing the paragraph. The design of this research was a survey. The population and sample of this research were the students at the tenth TKJ class of SMKS Pembina Bangsa Bukittinggi. Technique sampling of this research was the total sampling technique. The number of students was 30 students. The instrument that has been used is a questionnaire. Technique analysis of the data was collected, tabulated, calculated, found the mean, categorizing the data, and making the conclusion. N Based on the finding and analysis of the data of this research, the researcher found some problem that faced by student in writing a paragraph, the level of difficulties was “high” with 83,04%, with the interpretation of the data ≥ 70% - ≤ 90%.

Abstract

This research aimed to explore the dendang of randai to be analyzed in perpective of Systemic Functional Linguistic (SFL) proposed by Halliday (2014). The researchers wanted the lyrics of dendang to be analized using a theory of  Halliday in the text of Randai itself. The researchers used four dendang lyrics namely oepning Dendang, Dendang Simarantang, Gurindam Indang Payakumbuh, Gurindam Bacarai Kasiah. The researchers analyzed dendang using the types of transitivity process as the linguistic approach. The researchers used the Systemic Functional Linguistics developed by M.A.K Halliday. The data collection applied in this research by using books, articles in some jourlnals, e-books and other resources. The results showed that there were 6 types of transitivity process in which 8 sentences of material process, 4 sentences of mental process, 7 sentences of relational process, 15 sentences of verbal process, 2 sentences of behavioral process, and 2 sentences of existential process. The most dominant type of transitivty process found in dendang is verbal process.

Abstract

The English language lecturers’ perception about learner autonomy is important in order to help their learners develop their learning autonomy in the classroom. The purpose of this research was to know what was the English Language Lecturers’ Perception about Learner Autonomy. The descriptive quantitative research has the English lecturers of IAIN Bukittinggi as subject of the research. There were 11 English lecturers that used as the sample in this research. The instrumentation in this research was questionnaire. In analyzing the data, the researcher used the percentage formula. The research findings showed that most of the English lecturers were “unsure”. Data analysis was proven that there were 69 (34.84%) the total responses from the English lecturers that stated “unsure (U)” in the questionnaires about learner autonomy. In conclusion, most of the English lecturers were “unsure” about the learner autonomy.

Abstract

Reading log serves a crucial function in extensive reading by reminding students to read and encouraging them to record all they have read. However, some argue that keeping a reading log might be a burden for students and reduce their reading passion. Therefore, this study aims at figuring out students' perceptions and experiences with reading logs in order to help them with their extensive reading. This study involved 100 high school students who were equally assigned to do extensive reading activities outside of school hours for six weeks. The research data were collected through the questionnaire to find out student perspectives about extensive reading, the benefit, and difficulties when doing extensive reading activities using a reading log. Although the students had some difficulties, however, after data analysis, it was found that the students' perspective on extensive reading activity using a reading log was good.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the strategies the teacher uses in motivating students to read in English lessons. This study uses a qualitative case study of microethnography to obtain data. This research was conducted online to the English teacher and five students'. in collecting data using interviews and observation. The results of the research found that teachers have good English, provide motivational strategies to students in reading, motivate students by giving interesting stories, and provide assessments or praise to increase students' reading enthusiasm.

Abstract

Despite their designation as students of the English Education Department who are meant to teach English to others, many of these students rarely use English both inside and outside the classroom. This phenomenon’s prevalence in Indonesia makes students unaware of their mistakes when using English. The purpose of this study is to analyze the language awareness of sixth-semester students through the five language awareness domain to provide insight into the importance of language awareness in the classroom, especially for students of this particular type of department. This study used random sampling and using a questionnaire with fifteen items collected from 108 responses. This analyzed their language awareness through the five domains of language awareness, namely the affective, social, power, cognitive, and performance domains. Results showed that 86.67% of students had the affective domain from the social domain was 81.62%, from the power domain was 73.13%, from the cognitive domain was 75.96%, and from the performance domain was 65.86%. The overall value of the five domains is 76.65% showed that students have good language awareness. It means language awareness of students IS pretty good inside the classroom.

Abstract

This research was due to discovering the effectiveness of using list group label strategy on students’ vocabulary achievement at the second grade of SMPN 8 Bukittinggi in academic year 2019-2020. This research was caused by the lacked of students’’ vocabulary mastery in learning English at the second grade of SMPN 8 Bukittinggi. It can be proven by seeing the students’ laziness to bring a dictionary in English subject. It also impact to their interest in learning English. Other problems, the students were also difficult to differentiate between words; verbs, nouns, and adjectives in learning English. The students’ scores were under the minimum standard, 75. Hence, the researchers saw that LGL Strategy was due to discovering the effectiveness of using list group label strategy students’ on vocabulary achievement at the second grade of SMPN 8 Bukittinggi in academic year 2019-2020. This research was descriptive quantitative research. The population of the research was second grade students of SMPN 8 Bukittinggi consist of four classes. The sample was VIII.1 and VIII.2. To determine the sample, the researcher used a purposive sampling technique. The data was got through the documents’ vocabulary test before giving test, the test has been validated English lecturer and English teacher. The result was obtained by analyzing the data from students’’ vocabulary achievement from the result of the test. The finding showed that the effectiveness of the List group label strategy on students’ vocabulary achievement at the second grade of SMPN 8 Bukittinggi in Academic Year 2019-2020 with the score percentage 73.31 was effective.
