Abstract

This study aims to examine the process, supporting and inhibiting factors, and the impact of the principal’s leadership in the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) subjects at Ihya Ulumuddin Private Madrasah Aliyah in Kaimana Regency. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with one principal, one PAI teacher, one class teacher, two parents, and one education figure in Kaimana. Data analysis was conducted systematically to identify leadership patterns, internal and external factors affecting curriculum implementation, and its impact on PAI learning. The results show that the principal applies a transformational-participative leadership style that supports the empowerment of teachers and students; supporting factors include the commitment of young teachers, technological support, and parental cooperation, while inhibiting factors include limited training for senior teachers, suboptimal ICT infrastructure, and resistance to change. In terms of impact, the implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum in PAI has led to increased student learning independence, project-based learning innovations, and improved school–community relationships, although disparities between senior and junior teachers still exist. This study recommends strengthening principal leadership training, improving ICT facilities, and establishing internal teams for sustainable curriculum implementation.

Abstract

This study investigates the linguistic, psychological, and pedagogical factors contributing to 80 students as a sample who experienced difficulties speaking English at SMP Negeri 3 Kabupaten Sorong through a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data from a speaking test revealed that most students could convey general meaning, but they demonstrated significant inaccuracies in vocabulary and grammar. Specifically, 66.25% of participants produced understandable but structurally flawed sentences, while 73.75% exhibited basic grammatical and lexical errors. These results indicate limited mastery of sentence structure and active vocabulary. Complementing the quantitative analysis, qualitative data obtained through interviews uncovered additional barriers such as low motivation, anxiety, limited vocabulary retention, and lack of speaking practice. Psychological factors, including fear of making mistakes, low self-confidence, and negative perceptions of English, emerged as key inhibitors of oral performance. However, the presence of supportive teachers, peer encouragement, and engaging classroom activities like games positively influenced students’ motivation and willingness to participate. Findings also highlight the role of parental support and exposure to English media as informal contributors to language acquisition. This study underscores the importance of integrating communicative, game-based, and contextually relevant approaches to English instruction. It advocates creating safe, motivating environments to reduce anxiety and foster active student engagement. These insights contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted nature of speaking challenges in EFL contexts and inform strategies for enhancing oral proficiency in secondary education settings.

Abstract

Majelis Taklim is a non-formal Islamic educational institution that facilitates religious learning and moral development within Indonesia’s Muslim communities. This study investigates the strategic role of Majelis Taklim Nurul Huda in strengthening Islamic religious education among women and youth in Yellu Village, South Misool District, Raja Ampat. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through interviews with the chairperson and three members of the Majelis Taklim, two members of the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI), two mosque committee officers, and two local Islamic community leaders. The findings show that Majelis Taklim Nurul Huda implements integrated pedagogical strategies rooted in Qur’anic literacy, collective religious study, moral exemplification, and youth mentoring. The supporting factors include strong communal solidarity, collective religious identity, and recognition of women as custodians of household spiritual life. However, geographic isolation, limited instructional resources, and low pedagogical capacity among voluntary teachers present challenges. The impact of these strategies is evident in improved religious awareness among families, increased youth participation in mosque-based activities, strengthened ethical conduct, and greater intra-community cooperation. This study contributes to Islamic sociology by showing how non-formal women-led religious institutions in maritime Papua sustain religious identity and moral continuity within geographically marginalized communities.

Abstract

This study analyzes the urgency and strategies for integrating Arabic manuscript studies into the Islamic Religious Education curriculum at Indonesian universities. Using a qualitative approach and descriptive analysis, this study examines the implementation of Arabic manuscript studies as an integral part of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning. The results indicate that integrating Arabic manuscript studies can improve the quality of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning by developing critical analysis skills, contextual understanding of Islamic sources, and preserving Islamic intellectual heritage. The main challenges faced include limited human resources, accessibility of manuscripts, and integration of digital technology. This study recommends the development of an integrated curriculum, increasing the capacity of lecturers, and utilizing digital technology to support effective learning.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of multimedia-supported role-play on students’ English-speaking skills through a mixed-methods approach employing a pre-test–post-test control group design. A total of 80 secondary school students participated in the study, consisting of 40 students in the experimental group and 40 students in the control group. Speaking proficiency was measured using a 60-item multiple-choice speaking skills test assessing five components: pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension. Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics, paired-sample t-tests, and independent-sample t-tests, while qualitative insights were obtained through semi-structured interviews. The results reveal that both groups started at comparable proficiency levels, predominantly within the “moderate” and “fairly good” categories. However, after eight weeks of instruction, the experimental group demonstrated statistically significant improvement across all speaking components (p < .001), with mean gains ranging from 24.85 to 28.05 points and performance levels shifting to “very good” and “excellent.” In contrast, the control group showed only minimal improvement, with mean gains between 4.50 and 5.80 points, remaining within the “moderate” category. Independent t-test results confirmed significant post-test differences in favour of the experimental group across all speaking components. Qualitative findings further supported the quantitative results, indicating that multimedia input enhanced pronunciation accuracy and vocabulary acquisition, while role-play activities reduced anxiety, increased speaking confidence, and promoted active oral participation. The study concludes that multimedia-supported role-play is a highly effective pedagogical strategy for developing students’ English-speaking skills and is strongly recommended for integration into EFL classroom instruction.
