Abstract

Based on several recent studies, children's language development is closely related to parents' parenting patterns. Home and parents are the first ecological aspects for children's development. This research aims to prove these scientific (theoretical) claims. The method used was quantitative with a correlational research design, the number of respondents was 35 parents of K1 level at early childhood education West Jakarta Christian schools. Data were analyzed using Spearman correlation, validity using Product Moment and reliability using the Cronbach Alpha test for the Parenting Pattern variable and Cohen's Kappa for the language development variable. The research results showed that 35 parents of students used an authoritative parenting style, the calculated Rs calculation result was 0.2404 while the z table value at a significance of 0.05 was 1.96. Because the Z table is greater than the calculated Rs, it is concluded that there is no significant correlation between variable X (parental parenting) and variable Y (child's language development).

Abstract

In an academic setting, students are often required to write scientific journals as part of their curriculum. However, a common phenomenon is the anxiety experienced by most students when writing scientific journals. To understand the dynamics behind this, the purpose of this study was to focus on two main variables: Epistemological Beliefs and Self-Efficacy, as well as how these two variables affect Anxiety in writing scientific journals. Data was collected from 54 students of Universitas Pelita Harapan batches 49 and 50 through a specially designed questionnaire. After the data was collected, the Structural Equation Modelling-Partial Least Square analysis was carried out with the help of SmartPLS software to understand the relationship between variables. The results of the analysis confirmed that Epistemological Beliefs do have a positive influence on students' Self-Efficacy. Furthermore, both variables, Epistemological Beliefs and Self-Efficacy, showed a negative influence on Anxiety in writing scientific journals. Therefore, it is concluded that this finding provides important insights for educators and educational institutions about the importance of strengthening students' Epistemological Beliefs and Self-Efficacy to ensure they are more confident and reduce anxiety in writing scientific journals.

Abstract

The results of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) research on the literacy test of Indonesia's Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) show that Indonesia's literacy ability is still low. Literacy skills are needed as a twenty one century skill that must be mastered from an early age. One way to increase literacy is to read storybooks. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the method of reading storybooks to early childhood literacy skills. The method used in this study is quantitative descriptive by distributing questionnaires using five Likert scales (always, often, sometimes, rarely, never). The research was conducted in a private kindergarten in Central Jakarta with a research subject of one hundred and nine students. The results of the research obtained are that there is a relationship between the method of reading storybooks to early childhood literacy skills. The longer the duration of reading stories to children, the higher their literacy skills. Therefore, the method of reading storybooks should be done with a longer duration and frequently, so that children's literacy skills can be maximized.
