Abstract

The rapid growth of digital platforms has transformed the business landscape, presenting both challenges and opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), particularly in the culinary sector. This study investigates the critical factors that drive business success in this dynamic digital age, focusing on the role of emotional intelligence, product innovation, and risk-taking propensity among culinary MSMEs in the South Banjarmasin District, Indonesia. Utilizing a quantitative approach, data were gathered from 40 culinary MSME owners or managers through a structured questionnaire. The research model, grounded in established theoretical frameworks, was tested using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that while emotional intelligence and product innovation exhibit a positive association with business success, their direct impact was not statistically significant in this specific context. In contrast, risk-taking propensity emerged as a powerful predictor of business success, underscoring the importance of calculated risk-taking in navigating the complexities of the digital marketplace. This research contributes valuable insights into the entrepreneurial dynamics of digital-based culinary MSMEs. It highlights the critical role of risk-taking propensity in achieving success, suggesting that a willingness to embrace calculated risks is essential for thriving in the competitive digital landscape. The study also underscores the need for further research to explore the nuanced interplay of emotional intelligence, product innovation, and other factors in driving business success in this sector.

Abstract

Intimate partner violence (IPV) is a significant public health issue with devastating consequences for maternal and child health. This study investigates the prevalence and impact of IPV on pregnant women and their children in Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh, Indonesia, a region with limited research on this topic. A longitudinal study was conducted with 250 pregnant women recruited from antenatal clinics in Bener Meriah Regency. Data were collected through questionnaires and interviews at three time points: during pregnancy, six months postpartum, and one year postpartum. The questionnaires assessed IPV experiences, maternal mental health (depression, anxiety, and stress), and child health outcomes (birth weight, growth, and development). The prevalence of IPV during pregnancy was 32%. Women who experienced IPV were significantly more likely to suffer from depression, anxiety, and stress during pregnancy and postpartum. IPV was also associated with lower birth weight and an increased risk of developmental delays in children. In conclusion, this study highlights the serious consequences of IPV for maternal and child health in Bener Meriah Regency. The findings underscore the urgent need for IPV screening and intervention programs in antenatal and postnatal care settings. Midwives play a critical role in identifying and supporting women experiencing IPV.

Abstract

In the contemporary business landscape, sustainability reporting has become increasingly critical as stakeholders demand greater transparency and accountability from companies regarding their environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. This study delves into the factors that influence the extent of sustainability report disclosure, focusing on the role of financial performance, stakeholder pressure, and the moderating effect of independent commissioners. This study employs a quantitative approach, utilizing data from 96 manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) from 2020 to 2022. The sample encompasses 288 observations, and purposive sampling was employed to select companies that met specific criteria, ensuring the inclusion of companies that have consistently disclosed sustainability reports and maintained financial stability. Regression analysis with an absolute difference test was conducted using SPSS 23 to analyze the relationships between the variables. The findings of this study indicate that financial performance and stakeholder pressure significantly influence sustainability report disclosure. Companies with higher financial performance tend to disclose more sustainability information, suggesting that they have the resources and motivation to invest in sustainability reporting. This positive association between financial performance and sustainability reporting implies that companies with stronger financial positions are better equipped to allocate resources towards sustainability initiatives and their subsequent disclosure. In conclusion, the proportion of independent commissioners on the board moderates these relationships, indicating that independent oversight enhances the positive effects of financial performance and stakeholder pressure on sustainability report disclosure. The presence of independent commissioners on the board strengthens corporate governance mechanisms, ensuring greater transparency and accountability in sustainability reporting.

Abstract

Taxes serve as the cornerstone of any nation's economic framework, functioning as both a regulatory mechanism and a primary source of government revenue. They are indispensable for managing taxpayer behavior, ensuring a steady stream of state income, and financing essential public services and infrastructure development. In Indonesia, the compliance of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) is pivotal to the nation's fiscal well-being. This study delves into the factors that influence MSME taxpayer compliance, specifically focusing on the role of tax socialization, tax inclusion, and the involvement of tax volunteers. A quantitative research approach was adopted, involving the distribution of questionnaires to MSME taxpayers in Indonesia. The data collected was then analyzed using SPSS software to test the hypotheses regarding the impact of tax socialization, tax inclusion, and tax volunteers on taxpayer compliance. The findings of this study reveal that tax socialization and tax inclusion positively influence the level of tax compliance among Indonesian MSME taxpayers. Furthermore, the involvement of tax volunteers also has a positive impact on enhancing taxpayer compliance. This study underscores the importance of tax socialization and tax inclusion in fostering a culture of compliance among MSMEs in Indonesia. The positive role of tax volunteers in assisting taxpayers and promoting compliance is also highlighted. These findings have significant implications for tax authorities in their efforts to improve tax compliance rates and enhance revenue collection.

Abstract

Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are essential contributors to economic growth and development. However, they often face significant challenges in maintaining competitiveness and achieving sustained growth, particularly in the current era of rapid technological advancements, globalization, and evolving market dynamics. This study aims to investigate the critical factors that drive product innovation and their subsequent impact on the performance of SMEs. A quantitative research approach was employed in this study. Data were collected through a survey administered to 69 Sasirangan Cloth SMEs in Banjarmasin, Indonesia. These SMEs are engaged in the traditional textile craft of Sasirangan cloth, which holds cultural significance in the region. Structural equation modeling (SEM) with partial least squares (PLS) was utilized to analyze the collected data. The findings of the data analysis reveal that strategic orientation, market power, and organizational collaboration have a positive and statistically significant impact on product innovation. This suggests that SMEs that adopt a market-oriented, entrepreneurial, and technology-oriented strategic approach, combined with efforts to develop market power and engage in collaborative relationships with other organizations, are more likely to foster product innovation. Furthermore, the study finds that product innovation plays a mediating role in the relationship between these factors and company performance, indicating that product innovation is a key mechanism through which strategic orientation, market power, and organizational collaboration contribute to enhancing SME performance. In conclusion, this study underscores the pivotal role of product innovation in driving SME performance. By developing and introducing new products or significantly improving existing ones, SMEs can differentiate themselves from competitors, attract new customers, and enhance their overall competitiveness.

Abstract

The province of Sulu in the Philippines faces unique challenges in implementing digital governance initiatives due to its geographical remoteness, socio-economic disparities, and security concerns. This study examines the critical issue of data governance and privacy in Sulu's digital public service delivery, focusing on building trust and ensuring accountability. This research employed a mixed-methods approach. Quantitative data was collected through a survey of 300 residents of Sulu involved in accessing digital public services. Qualitative data was gathered through semi-structured interviews with 20 key informants, including local government officials, civil society representatives, and technology experts. The study analyzed existing policies and frameworks related to data governance and privacy in the Philippines and compared them with international best practices. The findings revealed a significant gap between policy aspirations and the reality on the ground. While national policies emphasize data privacy and security, awareness and implementation at the local level in Sulu remain limited. The study identified challenges such as lack of digital literacy, inadequate infrastructure, and concerns about data misuse. However, it also highlighted opportunities for leveraging digital technologies to improve transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in public service delivery. In conclusion, this study provides valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners working on digital governance in Sulu and other similar contexts. It emphasizes the need for context-specific strategies that prioritize community engagement, capacity building, and robust oversight mechanisms to ensure responsible and ethical data governance.

Abstract

Village fund management in Indonesia is crucial for rural development and poverty reduction. However, it is susceptible to fraud, hindering progress and eroding public trust. This study investigates the influence of leadership commitment, external supervision, reporting transparency, and community participation on fraud prevention in village fund management in Central Bengkulu Regency. A quantitative approach was employed, utilizing a survey method with 102 respondents, including village officials, government auditors, and related stakeholders. Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression to examine the relationship between the independent variables (leadership commitment, external supervision, reporting transparency, and community participation) and the dependent variable (fraud prevention). The findings demonstrate that leadership commitment, external supervision, reporting transparency, and community participation have a significant positive effect on fraud prevention in village fund management. Leadership commitment fosters an accountable organizational culture, while external supervision strengthens control mechanisms. Reporting transparency enhances public scrutiny, and community participation creates effective social control to minimize potential budget irregularities. In conclusion, This study recommends strengthening human resource capacity through training and education, increasing technology-based transparency for better information access, and promoting wider community involvement in the planning, implementation, and supervision of village funds. These measures collectively contribute to a more robust and fraud-resistant village fund management system.
