Abstract

Cultural promotion is an important part of public diplomacy in the digital age, particularly through the role of non-state actors such as social media influencers. This study aims to determine the impact of IShowSpeed’s content effectiveness in promoting Indonesian culture through Facebook on audience interest. Facebook was chosen because it is one of the platforms IShowSpeed uses to share content from his visits to Indonesia, thereby reaching a global audience. This study employs a quantitative approach using a survey of 100 respondents who are active followers of the IShowSpeed Facebook account. The 4C framework (Context, Communication, Collaboration, and Connection) is used as an indicator of content effectiveness, while Attention, Interest, and Desire serve as indicators of audience interest. The results show a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.739, a coefficient of determination of 54.5%, and a calculated t-value of 10.844, which is greater than the critical t-value of 1.661. These findings indicate that the effectiveness of IShowSpeed’s content on Facebook has a significant impact on audience interest in Indonesian culture and supports the use of social media as a tool for international cultural diplomacy.

Abstract

This article provides a critical overview of how digital literacy is understood and applied as a public communication agenda by the Government of Indonesia. It highlights the fundamental problem of the government’s approach in developing digital literacy that tends to view digital technology as mostly a source of threat for the nation’s unity. As a result, digital literacy is often viewed as a tool by which the government can control how their citizens interact with digital technology solely according to its own vision of a ‘positive internet’. This article argues that such an approach is problematic as it fails to take into account the existing problem of digital divide as well as the various dimensions of digital literacy that can provide a solution to this problem. In the interest of promoting a more open digital society, this paper will offer an alternative approach at understanding digital literacy which goes beyond how people can better use new digital technology into how people can incorporate digital knowledge into their social life to participate in the new mode of meaning making.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the content of persuasive messages regarding the value of togetherness in the “Ya Kali Gak Lanjut” campaign on the @fanta_id Instagram account using the Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) developed by Richard E. Petty and John T. Cacioppo. This research employs a qualitative approach with a content analysis method to examine campaign content in the form of carousel posts consisting of visuals, text, slogans, and captions published on the @fanta_id Instagram account. The data were analyzed using the interactive analysis model proposed by Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the persuasive messages in the “Ya Kali Gak Lanjut” campaign utilize two persuasion routes, namely the central route and the peripheral route. The central route is reflected in messages that associate Fanta products with various togetherness activities during Ramadan, such as breaking the fast, gathering after Tarawih prayers, playing with friends, and watching movies together. Meanwhile, the peripheral route is more dominant through the use of attractive visuals, the brand's distinctive colors, the slogan "Yakali Gak Mau Fanta," popular language that resonates with young audiences, and representations of togetherness that foster emotional closeness with the audience. The findings indicate that Fanta's persuasive communication strategy emphasizes an emotional branding approach by positioning the product as an integral part of togetherness during Ramadan rather than relying on rational arguments about the product's advantages. Therefore, the value of togetherness serves as the campaign's primary persuasive message, strengthening the brand image while enhancing the campaign's appeal on social media.
