Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology offers a new environment for English teaching and learning. It potentially improves the English learners' motivation and achievement in English writing skills. This paper investigated how technology usage related to the student's English learning motivation and writing skills in the Indonesian context. This study applied a quantitative method and used the test and online questionnaire as instruments. A pre-test and a post-test were used to find the significant improvement of English writing skills. Meanwhile, the a-ten online questionnaires were distributed to the students to investigate their motivation in English writing. The result shows that technology contributes to the development of the students' competence in the class of English writing as well as students' motivation in English writing learning. Significant correlations were also found between the pre-test and the post-test for undergraduate students. The implication of this study arises for English language pedagogy, especially in the Indonesian university context. The English language teaching especially focusing on writing is not only strengthened from the linguistics outcomes, but also non-linguistics outcomes such as motivation. Then, the pedagogy and technology integration must be considered to achieve English learning goals. Keywords: motivation, English language learning, technology, English writing achievement

Abstract

School closures due to the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in learning loss in primary school students, so a diagnosis of the students' numeracy skills is urgently needed at the beginning of learning to adapt learning to students' average ability levels (teaching at the right levels). This study aimed to develop a module that can assist and become a reference for teachers in schools in diagnosing and mapping students' numeracy abilities at the beginning of learning. Therefore, this research was carried out following the procedures of research and development (R&D). Prior to implementation, the developed module was validated by two experts (media and material experts) with validation results in “very good” categories for each aspect of the material, layout, and graphics. The results of the study based on the teacher's response questionnaire indicate that the module developed is very helpful for the teachers in mapping students' numeracy abilities at the beginning of learning after the COVID-19 pandemic and provides an alternative follow-up to the results of students' numeracy assessments. Thus, the developed module is suitable for use as a reference in conducting assessments regarding early primary school students’ numeracy. Keywords: diagnostic assessment module, early primary students, numeracy, post COVID-19 pandemic

Abstract

Despite the implementation of the recitation program in mathematics learning at SMAN 1 Sindangwangi which has been going on for quite a long time, the success of this program has not been measured yet. This research aimed to determine the context, input, process, and product of the mathematics learning recitation program. The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative. This evaluation research adopted the CIPP model which consists of four aspects, namely context, input, process, and product. The evaluation results of the four aspects show good criteria. The good context aspect of the recitation program is shown by the quality of the learning environment and the alignment between the implementation background and program objectives. The input aspect of the program is considered good seen from the suitability of the curriculum aspects with the topics and subtopics being recited, teachers’ academic qualifications, and the adequate infrastructure. The process aspect is categorized as good indicated by the positive impact on students' understanding, the quality of teachers, and the active response of students in the learning activities. Finally, the good product aspect is seen from students’ quite good learning outcomes exceeding the specified minimum completion criteria. Keywords: CIPP, program evaluation, recitation program

Abstract

Improving students’ creativity is very important in 21st-century education. One form of creativity is the ability to develop a product. Based on the observation, students already had the potential for creative thinking, but they had difficulties expressing these ideas in a product. This study was conducted to determine the improvement in students’ product creativity in Natural Science learning with the implementation of the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model. The method used was classroom action research consisting of two cycles. Each cycle included three stages, namely planning, implementing, and reflecting. Data were collected through observation notes and documentation during the activities. The results of this study indicate that learning by implementing the Project-Based Learning (PjBL) model in the Natural Sciences subject can increase the creativity of students’ products. It is evidenced by an increase in student creativity by 24.45 based on the product assessment from cycle I which was 64.44 and cycle II was 88.89. In cycle I, improvements were still needed, but in cycle II students were more creative in preparing tools and materials, making products neater and paying attention to color matching, and generating relatively new and unique product ideas. Keywords: Project-based learning, product creativity, Natural Sciences, classroom action research

Abstract

In Indonesia, the independent curriculum meets the requirements and desires of a wide range of students, providing an alternative to the government-mandated curriculum without sacrificing educational quality or preparing students for careers or post-secondary education both locally and abroad. The purpose of this research was to explore English teachers’ perspectives related to the independent curriculum, its implementation, and its challenges at one of the senior high schools in Cirebon City. This research used a case study approach with qualitative methods and the subjects were two English teachers who taught English with the independent curriculum. Observation, interviews, and documentation were used to collect the data. The results show that regarding the implementation of the independent curriculum, English teachers give their positive (29.2%), negative (29.2%), neutral (33.3%), and unclear (8.3%) perspectives. The Implementation of the independent curriculum in learning English is carried out by strengthening the Pancasila student profile project and learning. The implementation of learning English includes three stages: planning, implementing, and evaluating. However, there are several challenges, such as a lack of student motivation and the poor mindset of students towards English. Keywords: independent curriculum, implementation, teachers’ challenges.
