Abstract

Forest conversion in watershed may lead to erosion, sedimentation, and water quantity fluctuation. Prediction of erosion and sedimentation quantity is one way to describe condition of a watershed. ANSWERS is one of good hydrological model since it can be linked with map. It can formulated the best land use composition and distribution based on simulation. However, most of steps in ANSWERS are conducted manually, especially during thematic map development. The objective of research are (1) to combine the GIS and Remote Sensing in order to reduce technical error during thematic map development, (2) to predict the value of erosion and sedimentation to map the class of erosion and sedimentation range. Research is done in Cipopokol water cathment, Cisadane Hulu sub watershed, Bogor district at June untill October 2005.Keywords: Sedimentation, erosion, water catchment area, GIS, Spatial data

Abstract

Astudy was conducted to investigate the difference in abundance, richness, diversity and evenness of soil arthropods in Gunung Walat Education Forest, Sukabumi, West Java. Sampling was done in two difference habitats, e.g. burn and unburn habitat. A total of 1280 individuals from 40 families and 16 orders were collected by soil and litter extracting (Berlesse funnel). The biodiversity indices indicated that unburn habitat had a higher indices than that of burn habitat. Keywords: Diversity, Berlesse funnel, Forest Health Monitoring, unburn, soil arthropods

Abstract

Acid rain is caused by increasing air pollution. The emission of sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide from fossil fuel combustion into the atmosphere, which is followed by a chemical transformation (hydrolysis) into sulphuric and nitric acid, causes acid rain. The study was conducted on four (4) locations with different landuses. The lowest pH of rainfall was on industrial area, whereas the highest pH of rainfall was on vegetation area. pH of rainfall in beginning of rainy season was lower than pH of rainfall in middle of rainy season.Keyword : Acid rain, pH, landuse, rainfal

Abstract

This study was carried out to know reproductive pattern of spotted dove (Streptopelia chinensis) and ringdove (Streptopelia risoria) in captivity. Fifteen pairs of spotted dove and seventeen pairs of ringdove were used to identify reproductive pattern. Each pairs of the birds were cared in cage (1.5 x 0.75 x 2.0 m). Result of this research showed that both types of the birds had the same pattern of reproduction, i.e : age of puberty (first mating) or onset of first egg production was 6.5 -7 months, avarage clutch size was two eggs, hatching period was 14.47 ± 0.74 days, egg production period was 27.11 ± 6.72 days to 48.79 ± 3.53 days, and hatching rate was 55% to 68%. The length of sperm head was 13.00 ± 0.62 μm to 14.73 ± 0.46 μm and the width of sperm head was 1.00 μm and the length of sperm tail was 87.00 ± 9.59 μm to 104.00 ± 6.22 μm. Sperm motility and concentration were relatively the same i.e 50 – 60% and 270 x 106 to 710 x 106 respectively. The birds were identified as temporal monogamous mating type.Key words: Streptopelia chinensis, Streptopelia risoria, reproductive pattern, matting type, captivity.

Abstract

This paper reviews potential causes of amphibian population declines in Indonesia in relation to global amphibian declines. At least six factors were identified: over-harvesting, loss of forest and wetland habitats, pollution, disease, introduction of exotic species and deformities. The conservation of Indonesian amphibian faces many challenges, among other the low perception and knowledge about amphibian among general public, also low number and low quality of local herpetologist .Key word: global amphibian declines; amphibian; frog; Indonesia

Abstract

Ringkasan ini menguraikan status konservasi in situ kerbau kerdil Sulawesi. Kata Kunci: in situ, anoa, konservasi, populasi berbiak.

Abstract

Despite its large distribution, very few studies have been done on the reproductive ecology of the genus Gerygone, a member of the family of Australo-Papuan warblers. Mangrove Gerygone and Large-billed Gerygone use mangrove habitats for breeding in the Top End of Australia. This study attempted to reveal the nesting success of those species. Both conventional method and Mayfield method were used to calculate the nesting success. The results showed that nesting success of both species was low compared to those of other Australian passerines.

Abstract

The article was describe some aspect of bioecological Parkia timoriana DC Merr in Meru Betiri National Park i.e. ecological characteristis, population dan regenration status, seed production, seed dispersal dan seed distributor, spatial distribution of parkia, and relation of parkia abundance and community interaction and distance of village to the forest (parkia habitat). In Meru Betiri National Park, tke parkia was found at 0 -500 m upper sea, topographyi 0-125 % (general 40 %), land pH 5 – 7. Total population of parkia in natural forest only 200 individu and naturally regeration process was very low. As a intolerant species, parkia was needed most sun radiation to sprout the seed and growth of parkia. The pattern of spatial distribution and abundance of parkia were relating to the interaction intensity of people to parkia and the distance of communities village to the parkia habitat in natural forest. In this case, the parkia abundance were found in natural forest where people who has highest interaction with parkia and nearest distance of communities village to the natural forest as parkia habitat. Peoples as parkia harvester was actor in parkia distribution and parkia seed dispersal in Meru Betiri National Park. Keywords : bioecological, kedawung, regeneration, conservation, community.

Abstract

Study was carried out to know pattern of population distribution, population size and dailly activities of timor deer (Cervus timorensis, de Blainville 1822) in Bali Barat National Park. The result showed that pattern of population distribution of timor deer were not similar and tend to group based on food and water distribution. There were 23 population groups of timor deer i.e 12 groups at season forest and 11 groups at savanna forest. Total population numbere were 713-1320 heads i.e. fawns are 28 % and adult are 72 %, and sex ratio are 9:4. Time allocation for dailly activities of timor deer in Tanjung Sari grazing area were used for ingesti (52,05 %), resting (30,61 %), moving (6,21 %), investigating (6,12 %) and grroming (5.10 %). Relatively, the study also found different of time allocation for each dailly activities between male and female of timor deer.Key Words: Timor deer, distribution pattern, population size, daily behavior, national park.
