Abstract

Purpose of the study: This research aims to investigate the impact of using multimedia learning on students’ academic performance. Specifically, it examines efforts to enhance learning outcomes in the discussion of folk poetry in Indonesian language subjects for seventh-grade students through the use of educational videos. Methodology: This study employs a CAR approach, allowing for continuous evaluation and improvement of the learning process. The research was conducted at Junior high school Jambi. The subjects were 32 seventh-grade students, consisting of 16 males and 16 females. Data collection techniques included observation, data recording, document analysis, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. The data were analyzed using critical analytical techniques. Main Findings: The results from the first cycle of the CAR indicated an improvement in students’ abilities compared to the pre-action phase, as evidenced by increased learning outcomes in the discussion of folk poetry in Indonesian language lessons. The percentage of students achieving the Minimum Competency Criteria was 46.9% in the first cycle, which significantly increased to 84.38% in the second cycle. Novelty/Originality of this study: The development of multimedia technology offers significant opportunities to transform student learning. Multimedia tools also enable teachers to develop effective teaching techniques, leading to optimal and maximum learning outcomes. The success of teachers in enhancing students’ potential is a primary goal in education, aiming to achieve high student performance and desired learning outcomes. Generally, two factors influence learning outcomes: internal and external factors. These factors interact in the individual student’s learning process, determining the quality of learning outcomes.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to analyze the professionalism of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) teachers in Rwanda and provide evidence-based recommendations for improvement. Methodology: Utilizing qualitative methods, this study employed document analysis and semi-structured interviews to gather data. The analysis was conducted using UNESCO’s Global Framework of Professional Teaching Standards, offering a comprehensive examination of TVET teachers’ professionalism through detailed reviews and insightful interviews. Main Findings: The study revealed that only 31.1% of TVET teachers received adequate training during the 2021/22 academic year. This disparity is attributed to delayed deployment, inefficiencies in human resource development, a shortage of private higher learning institutions, static salary payment systems, and limited collaboration. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research stands out due to its thorough assessment of the professionalism of Rwandan TVET teachers in line with the Global Framework. It highlights existing challenges and proposes evidence-based solutions to enhance their preparation, in-service training, and effectiveness in today’s dynamic educational environment.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This research aims to identify the English language learning strategies for tourism, the materials used in teaching English, and the difficulties students face in learning English at the Banjarmasin National Tourism Academy. Methodology: This descriptive qualitative research, designed by Miles and Huberman, involved first, third, and fifth-semester students, as well as an English lecturer of the Speaking course at the National Tourism Academy Banjarmasin. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and document analysis, and analyzed in three steps: data condensation (selecting and summarizing relevant documents), data display (organizing and compressing data), and drawing and verifying conclusions. Main Findings: The results showed that the teaching strategies for the Speaking course in tourism at the National Tourism Academy Banjarmasin primarily involved lecturing and discussion, with less emphasis on role play. The Speaking course is a basic course aimed at boosting students’ confidence in speaking English. The materials used in the course are general English topics such as obligatory expressions, hobbies and interests, and nominal sentences, which are not specifically related to tourism. Additionally, students reported difficulties in constructing sentences based on grammar rules and experienced burnout from online learning. Novelty/Originality of this study: This research provides new insights into effective methods for teaching and learning English in tourism and hospitality majors, highlighting strategies that enhance students’ practical English skills in the context of the global tourism industry.
