Abstract

Freshwater crabs have an important role in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem. The purpose of research is to know the freshwater crabs and habitat characteristics of Cabang Panti Research Station in Gunung Palung National Park, Kayong Utara Regency. We use a purposive Random sampling and hand collecting methods to inventory of the freshwater crabs. The Cabang Panti Research Station has a three species of freshwater crabs, namely Parathelphusa maindroni, Terrathelphusa sp. and Isolapoamon spatha. Parahelphusa maindroni is the most abundance in freshwater swamps and alluvial habitat.

Abstract

Rattan?s stem, is used to make furniture and ropes. The strenght of rattan is stem classified according to vessel arrangement an dimensional fibre. The purpose of the research was to investigate anatomical structure of three types of rattan stem, namely worm rattan (Calamus asperimus Bl), sega rattan (Calamus caesius Bl), and semambu rattan (Calamus scipionum L). The research was conducted by using embedding and maceration method. According to transversal from these three types of rattan showed peripheral and central corpus area. Cortex belongs to type A that is jigsaw puzzle like with characteristics large cells, irregular inform with numerous large intercellular spaces. Vascular tissue has colateral type which consists of xylem and floem surrounded by fibers. Protoxylem of C. asperimus and C. caesius contain 1-6 cells and C. scipionum has 2-10 cells with loose arrangement. Metaxylem has round shape and has one composition in the centre of vessel. The mean of metaxylem diameter from each species (C. asperimus, C. caesius and C. scipionum) was 130,4 m, 194,0 m and 300,5 m respectively. Floem consists of two areas which contain 3-4 cells and has sequential structure. Dimensional fibre has various value depend on early cell development, stem position and age stem

Abstract

The tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.Var. Permata) is one of the horticultural crops that contain vitamin C with potential for health. During the ripening process in storage, the tomato will experiencea more rapid weight loss and decay caused by respiration and bacteria. The storage life of the tomato can be extended by adding edible film from plant extracts that contain secondary hydrocolloid and metabolite compounds. This research aimed to find out the effect of the bandotan (A. conyzoides L.) leaf extract of different concentrations on the freshness of the tomato (S. lycopersicum L.) and to find out the best concentration of the bandotan (A. conyzoides L.) leaf extract to maintain the freshness of tomato (S. lycopersicum L.). The research was carried out from February to April 2015. The experiment used in this research was a completely randomized design. The concentrations of the bandotan extract used consisted of 4 treatments i.e. 0 ppm (P1), 10 ppm (P2), 20 ppm (P3) and 30 ppm (P4). The research findings indicated that the 30 ppm treatment was better at a weight loss parameter of 8.67 and a density of bacteria at 70.5 x 103. The treatments of 10 ppm, 20 ppm and 30 ppm had the ability to maintain the content of vitamin C.

Abstract

Stem and branch parts of citrus trees is often attacked by blendok disease caused by the fungus Diplodia sp. Control of the disease by using synthetic fungicides are less effective in controlling diseases caused by fungal pathogens. Fungal biological control is using Trichoderma sp. as an antagonist agents. This study aimed to determine the antagonists power of fungus Trichoderma sp. in controlling fungus Diplodia sp. causes of citrus stem rot. Antagonist test covers the wide average of mycelium and calculate the percentage of antagonistic fungus Trichoderma sp. from day 1st to 7th. Results showed that the fungus Trichoderma sp. can inhibit the growth of fungus Diplodia sp. with an area of?? mycelium on day 6 and day 7 of 6240 mm2 with antagonists percentage reaches 100%.

Abstract

Orchids (Family Orchidaceae) are one of the components of biodiversity in ecosystems such as the epiphytic orchids of West Kalimantan which are endangered due to forest destruction. This research aims to found out the types of epiphytic orchids in the forest area of Bukit Luncit, Anjongan Sub-district. The research was carried out from May to July 2015 using the cruise method. Research finding showed that there were 9 genera of orchids divided into 12 species of epiphytic orchids i.e. Aerides odorata, Bulbophyllum lepidum, Bulbophyllum vaginatum, Cymbidium finlaysonianum, Dendrobium crumenatum, Dendrobium oblongum,Dendrobium smithianum, Luisia curtisii, Micropera fuscolutea, Pomatocalpa latifolia, Thrixspermum centipeda and Trichoglottis bipenicillata.

Abstract

Mycorrhizal fungi are fungi that are associated with higher levels of plants and are very important in plant growth. Mycorrhizal fungi can be found most of the land, one of which is in the mangrove forest. This study was conducted to determine the type of fungus and the percentage of infections in plant roots and fungal density of VAM found in the Mangrove Forest area at Mempawah Regency, West Kalimantan. This research was conducted at the Microbiology Laboratory of the Department of Biology, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Analysis of soil chemical content was carried out in the Laboratory of Chemical and Soil Fertility, Faculty of Agriculture, Tanjungpura University. Isolation of spores was carried out by wet filter method and continued with centrifugation. The results indicated that the spores found consisted of 3 genera were Glomus, Gigaspora and Paraglomus. The percentage of root infections by mycorrhizal fungi was classified as low at 10.65%, and density of VAM fungus spores in Parit Tanjung as many 13 spores, Kasim as many 10 spores, Sungai Burung as many 59 spores and Tanjung as many 33 spores.

Abstract

Red tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) are cultured in floating cages of the Kapuas River in Kapur Village can be infected with ectoparasites, especially on the gills. This study aims to determine the types, prevalence and intensity of ectoparasites on the gills of red tilapia in floating cages of the Kapuas River in Kapur Village of Kubu Raya Regency. The samples were taken in April 2016 by random sampling method. The fish as many as 100 individuals were taken randomly from the floating cages in five locations. Ectoparasites were found consisting of two types which are members of the Class Monogenea, namely Dactylogyrus sp. and Gyrodactylus sp. The ectoparasite Dactylogyrus sp. mostly infected the red tilapia gills with the value of the average prevalence of 90% (infection category of almost always) and the value of the average intensity of 3.97 ind/individual. The Gyrodactylus sp. found on the gills had a value of the average prevalence of 49% (infection category of commonly) and the average intensity value of 1.76 ind/individual.

Abstract

Jelantah is the residual waste of cooking oil. The disposal of untreated waste directly into the environment has the potential to promote damage such as water channels clogging and water body pollution. Form of waste treatment such as biodegradation can be done using potential bacteria such as Pseudomonas spp. which has been known for being effectively in decomposing organic waste. This study aimed to observe the ability of Pseudomonas sp. BOT4 in degrading jelantah with different nitrogen sources i.e. NaNO3 and yeast extract. This study was carried out from August to October 2018. The used cooking oil samples were homemade with deep frying method and the isolate samples were collected from used cooking oil-contaminated sewer water. Split plot design was used with time of incubation as main plots and nitrogen sources as subplots. The parameters observed were cell density and degraded oil weight. The results obtained stated that nitrogen sources of NaNO3 and yeast extract given optimum effect on cell density of Pseudomonas sp. BOT4 on day three each with OD600 value of 1,361 and 2,300. Nevertheless both nitrogen sources did not really give real effect on final weight of degraded oil, each with weight of 1,28 g dan 1,09 g.
