Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a growing epidemic among young adults. Nursing students represent a critical population for early risk detection due to their future role in healthcare. This study aimed to assess T2DM risk and its determinants among nursing students. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 100 nursing students at Poltekkes Kemenkes Palu. T2DM risk was assessed using the FINDRISC instrument. Independent variables included BMI, waist circumference, physical activity, family history, and smoking status. Bivariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed. The majority (88%) had mild risk, while 9% had moderate and 3% had severe risk. Central obesity (AOR=32.15; p<0.001), family history of diabetes (AOR=12.76; p<0.001), and overweight/obesity (AOR=8.42; p=0.002) were significant independent predictors of elevated diabetes risk. One in eight nursing students is at moderate-to-severe T2DM risk. Central obesity, family history, and high BMI are key determinants, highlighting the need for targeted screening and preventive lifestyle interventions in this population.

Abstract

The coverage of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia is still suboptimal (52.5%). Limited maternal knowledge, skills, and low self-confidence in breastfeeding are the main factors causing breastfeeding failure. This study was conducted at the Maternal and Child Health Hospital (RSKIA). This study aimed to test the effectiveness of the Learning Practice model in lactation education on maternal knowledge, breastfeeding skills, self-efficacy, and success of exclusive breastfeeding. A quasi-experimental pre-post control group design involving 60 postpartum mothers was used. The intervention group received four education sessions while the control group received conventional education. Data were analyzed using paired t-tests, independent t-tests, and chi-square tests. The intervention group showed significant improvements in knowledge, skills, and self-efficacy (p<0.001). Success of exclusive breastfeeding was higher in the intervention group (86.7%) compared to the control group (60%) (p=0.018). These findings suggest that experience-based and practice-based education helps mothers translate knowledge into confidence and effective breastfeeding behavior.

Abstract

Prediabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) in adolescents are increasing globally, highlighting the need for early prevention. This study aimed to synthesize evidence on determinants of DM prevention among adolescents. A systematic review following PRISMA guidelines was conducted on studies published between 2020 and 2025. The results show that DM prevention is influenced by multilevel factors, including individual (knowledge and self-efficacy), behavioral (diet and physical activity), family support, school environments, and sociocultural context, with lifestyle and school-based interventions demonstrating the most consistent improvements in behavioral and metabolic outcomes. Inconclusion, effective DM prevention in adolescents requires integrated, multilevel strategies that address behavioral, psychosocial, and environmental determinants.

Abstract

This study analyzed the effectiveness of Hospital Management Information System (SIMRS) implementation in improving hospital service performance by examining the interaction between technological, human, and organizational dimensions. A qualitative literature synthesis with a conceptual narrative review design was employed by integrating secondary data from scientific journals, academic books, and health information system policy documents. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis guided by the De Lone and McLean Information System Success Model and enriched with a socio-technical systems perspective. The synthesis showed that SIMRS implementation improved service efficiency, data accuracy, inter-unit coordination, and decision-making quality through better system quality, information quality, and service quality. However, its effectiveness depended on system-user alignment, digital competence, infrastructure readiness, and organizational support. Poor alignment between system design and actual work practices may reduce adoption and encourage workarounds. Therefore, SIMRS should be implemented holistically by balancing technical infrastructure, user capacity building, and adaptive organizational governance.

Abstract

Stunting remains a major public health problem in Indonesia despite national strategies implemented from 2018 to 2024 that reduced prevalence by nearly 9% through integrated nutrition-specific and nutrition-sensitive approaches. However, challenges persist in rural West Java, where prevalence increased slightly during 2021–2022, alongside disparities in education, nutrition behavior, and healthcare access. This study analyzes maternal determinants and access to health services related to stunting among 184 mothers of toddlers in rural Bogor using a cross-sectional design. Data were collected using validated questionnaires assessing nutrition knowledge, socioeconomic characteristics, and healthcare access. Results show a stunting prevalence of 45.6%, with maternal education (p=0.021), knowledge (p=0.023), feeding practices (p=0.022), and service access (p=0.029) significantly associated. These findings highlight maternal factors and service accessibility as key determinants requiring strengthened nutrition education and improved health service reach through community cadres to achieve national targets collectively.

Abstract

This study examined the effect of structured diabetic foot exercise on Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI) values among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) at Simpang Kawat Public Health Center, Indonesia. A quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design was applied in volving 35 participants selected through purposive sampling. Participants completed two supervised diabetic foot exercise sessions over one week. ABI measurements were performed before and after the intervention using a calibrated vascular Doppler under standardized conditions. Data were analyzed using paired-sample t-tests, and effect sizes were calculated using Cohen’s d. The results showed a significant increase in mean ABI values from 0.89 ± 0.06 to 0.94 ± 0.05 after the intervention (p < 0.001). Large effect sizes were identified in both the right and left lower extremities (d = 1.39 and d = 1.28), indicating meaningful clinical improvement in peripheral circulation. These findings suggest that structured diabetic foot exercise may support circulation focused diabetes self-management and has potential to be implemented as a practical non-pharmacological intervention in primary-care settings. However, the absence of a control group and short intervention period remain important study limitations.

Abstract

Health literacy plays an essential role in effective self-management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). There is insufficient research in the qualitative literature on health information processing among Indonesian urban populations seeking primary healthcare. This exploratory phenomenological study aimed to explore the lived experience of seven adults with T2DM in Bandung, Indonesia, in relation to health information processing and barriers to understanding. The data were collectedvia in-depth interviews (December 2025-January 2026) and analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis. Considering the sample size of seven individuals purposefully selected, the results can be considered preliminary and non-generalizable. Four main themes arose from the analysis: (1) varied sources of health information and variable abilities to evaluate health information sources; (2) comprehension barriers due to technical medical language without sufficient context; (3) barriers to patient-health worker communication because of structural, linguistic, and cultural factors; and (4) various influences of digital media and peer socialization on health behavior. It was identified that health literacy is a continuum process, which depends not only on personal characteristics of patients but also on the communicative setting of medical consultations. Recommended actions for addressing the problem include health workers’ training on patient-centered communication (e.g., teach-back technique), development of online resources

Abstract

Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) is an effective revascularization procedure; however, postoperative recovery extends beyond clinical outcomes and involves complex physical, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions. Understanding patients’ lived experiences is essential to develop holistic and patient-centered care. This study aimed to synthesize qualitative evidence on the lived experiences of patients following CABG. A scoping review was conducted following the Arksey and O’Malley framework and reported in accordance with PRISMA-ScR guidelines. A systematic search was performed across PubMed, Scopus, Taylor & Francis, and EBSCO databases. Studies were selected using predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria based on the PCC (Population, Concept, Context) framework. A total of 14 qualitative studies published between 2015 and 2026, conducted across 10 countries, were included. Data were analysed using a descriptive and thematic synthesis approach, categorizing extracted data to identify recurring patterns, then synthesizing findings across physical, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions of recovery. The synthesis identified four overarching themes: (1) psychospiritual transformation and meaning reconstruction, (2) gaps in information, communication, and patient involvement, (3) physical burden and functional limitations, and (4) social role disruption and structural barriers to recovery. The synthesis results show that post-CABG patient recovery is influenced by various aspects, including psychospiritual changes, physical limitations, lack of information and patient involvement, and social barriers in carrying out daily roles. Therefore, a more comprehensive treatment approach is needed to optimally support the patient’s recovery process.

Abstract

This study evaluated the evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning in patient safety across Southeast Asia (SEA) to identify regional research dynamics and emerging frontiers. A quantita-tive bibliometric analysis was conducted using 262 primary documents retrieved from the Scopus database (English-language; published up to December 31, 2025). Document selection was guided by an adaptation of the PRISMA-ScR framework. Key indicators included the Mann-Kendall trend test, Pettitt’s change-point test, and thematic cooccurrence network mapping. Statistical analysis revealed a significant structural shift in 2015 (p < 0.01), marking exponential publication growth and extensive international collaboration (62.2% of documents featuring multi-country co-authorship). Results highlighted a divergence in regional strategies; high-income nations produced high-impact clinical algorithms, while emerging economies prioritized capacity building for resource-constrained systems. Thematic mapping demonstrated a major transitional shift in the literature from traditional, image-based neural networks for diagnostic accuracy toward natural language processing and large language models aimed at addressing clinical documentation and prescribing errors. These publication dynamics map the current academic focus, highlighting the need for future implementation driven clinical validation and regionally adapted regulatory frameworks.

Abstract

Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) is considered the bioscientific foundation of nursing practice, yet evidence linking A&P academic performance to objectively measured clinical skill competency remains limited, particularly within Indonesian undergraduate nursing programmers. This study examined the association between A&P academic performance and basic nursing skills competency among undergraduate nursing students in Indonesia. A retrospective correlational design was employed using administrative records from 178 Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) students at Universitas Advent Indonesia, Bandung. A&P performance was operationalized as course grade (4.0 scale) and examination score (0–100%). Basic nursing skills competency was assessed via a standardized 10-station Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Pearson product-moment correlations and simultaneous-entry multiple linear regression were used for analysis. Both A&P indicators showed moderate, statistically significant positive correlations with OSCE performance (course grade: r = 0.44; examination score: r = 0.47; both p < 0.001). The regression model was statistically significant [F(3,174) = 18.32,p < 0.001;R2 = 0.24, adjusted R2 = 0.23]. A&P course grade (beta = 0.38,p < 0.001) and examination score (beta= 0.31,p = 0.001) were independent predictors of OSCE performance, whereas overall GPA was not a unique predictor after controlling for A&P indicators (beta = 0.12,p = 0.182)
