Abstract

This study investigates cognitive load and rule acquisition in sharaf (Arabic morphology) learning, with particular attention to the role of working memory among third-semester students of the Arabic Language Education Program at IAIN Kerinci. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were collected through in-depth interviews with 10 students and participatory observation in sharaf classes. Thematic analysis revealed four primary challenges: (1) the linguistic complexity and irregularity of morphological patterns that burden memory, (2) limited working memory capacity that constrains the recall and application of rules, (3) pedagogical gaps caused by lecture-dominated methods with minimal student engagement, and (4) differences in students’ educational backgrounds that affect comprehension. The study further identified effective strategies for reducing cognitive load, including material simplification with visual aids, structured and contextual repetition, task-based learning, and metacognitive training. These findings highlight the importance of adaptive teaching approaches aligned with students’ cognitive capacities to enhance Arabic language instruction.

Abstract

Arabic language learning in modern Islamic boarding schools focuses on memorization and repetition, while the communicative and linguistic dimensions have not been optimally integrated. Therefore, it is necessary to design a development model that combines academic learning activities in the classroom with communicative and contextual language practices. This study aims to describe and analyze the method of developing Arabic language learning activities through the All in One System approach at Ar-Raudhatul Hasanah Islamic Boarding School. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach, using data collection techniques such as observation, interviews, and document analysis. Data analysis was carried out through the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, including data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source triangulation, technical triangulation, and member checking. The findings of this study revealed three models of Arabic language learning development: Mufradāt learning developed using the ADDIE model, emphasizing systematic planning and continuous evaluation; grammar learning developed through the ASSURE model, which focuses on learner characteristics and active participation; and and language skills learning (istimā‘, muḥādathah, qirā’ah, and kitābah) are developed through the CTL (Contextual Teaching and Learning) model, which emphasizes experience-based learning. This study concludes that the All in One System has created a dynamic and participatory Arabic language learning ecosystem, positioning language as a living practice shaped by social and cultural interactions.

Abstract

This study addresses low motivation and mastery in Arabic vocabulary at MTs Tarbiyah Islamiyah Batang Kabung, where traditional rote memorization methods prevail. It investigates the singing method's impact, aiming to: 1) measure its effect on vocabulary mastery, 2) analyze its influence on motivation, and 3) evaluate its practical implementation. Employing a qualitative case study, data was gathered through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and document analysis. The findings reveal that the singing method significantly enhanced vocabulary recall, retention, and pronunciation, particularly for verbs (fi’il), by acting as a powerful mnemonic device. It dramatically increased student motivation by lowering anxiety and creating an engaging, culturally resonant learning environment that aligns with local Minang traditions. Implementation was feasible and effective, reliant on teacher creativity to adapt songs to the curriculum. This study provides a novel, thick qualitative analysis of the method's application in a pesantren-based MTs, highlighting its utility for teaching grammatical structures and its profound affective benefits.

Abstract

This research reveals the phenomenon of al-haal in the book Al-Ghuluwwu wa Atsaruhu fi al-Irhab wa Ifsad al-Mujtama' by Muhammad bin Alawi al-Maliki al-Hasani. This book is very important in correcting deviant ideas about doctrine and the like. The theory of al-haal is used to reveal the Arabic texts in that book, because al-haal plays an important role in revealing the text deeply and throughly, no matter how insignificant it may be in speech, but its role is significant and enormous. This research is qualitative, and the analysis used is descriptive analysis. The method of data collection is listening, reading, and note-taking, and the other method is the purposive sampling method. All of these methods are used to perform the analysis of this research. The results of this research are as follows: (1) There are 15 examples of the al-haal of isim dhohir; there are 5 examples of the al-haal of jumlah; the researcher didn’t find the al-haal of syibhul jumlah (adverb or prepositional phrase); (2) The al-haal of isim dhohir consists of 6 examples of washfun nakiroh and 9 examples of mashdar nakiroh; the case of jumlah consists of 5 examples of jumlah fi’liyyah; (3) The researcher finds three examples of al-haal al-muta’addidah, that phenomenon exists in Arabic texts and it’s permitted by grammarians. (4) The researcher also finds one example of ‘amil al-haal al-mahzufah, due to the presence of al-haal that confirms the meaning of sentence. (5) During the analysis process, the researcher also finds the ‘amil al-haal from ma’na al-fi’il and its type which is isim isyaroh, and there is one example. The researcher analyzes all of these in a purposive sampling method.

Abstract

Mastery of vocabulary (mufradat) is a fundamental foundation in learning the Arabic language. However, eleventh-grade students at SMA 3 Muhammadiyah Padang often encounter difficulties in memorizing and contextually using new vocabulary, resulting in low motivation and language competence. This study aims to investigate the application of demonstration and association techniques as an innovative solution to address this problem. The research employs a qualitative approach with a case study method. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews with teachers and students, and document analysis. The results indicate that the implementation of the demonstration technique, where students physically enact the meaning of vocabulary, successfully created a concrete learning experience and facilitated understanding. Meanwhile, the association technique, which links new words to images, stories, or students' personal experiences, was effective in strengthening long-term memory. The combination of these two techniques not only significantly enhanced vocabulary retention but also fostered an active, creative, and enjoyable learning environment. Students became more confident and enthusiastic in using the learned vocabulary in simple sentences. It is concluded that the integration of demonstration and association techniques is a potential and effective strategy for improving the mastery of Arabic mufradat at the secondary school level.
