Abstract

The hospital played a crucial role in treating health conditions and had the potential to cause negative impacts through generated medical waste. Based on the preliminary survey conducted, it was found that the management of infectious solid medical waste at Rumkital Dr. Oepomo Surabaya did not meet the requirements for containment, transportation, temporary storage, human resources, and infrastructure. Based on these issues, this study aimed to describe the management of infectious solid medical waste at Rumkital Dr. Oepomo in 2024. The method used was descriptive with a cross sectional approach. Data was collected through direct observation of the management of infectious solid medical waste. Information was also obtained through interviews with infectious solid medical waste management officers. In addition, the volume of infectious solid medical waste was measured directly in the field. The data obtained was compared with Minister of Health Regulation Number 2 of 2023. The results of this study indicated that the volume of infectious solid medical waste generated at Rumkital Dr. Oepomo Surabaya over 7 days was 5.34 kg/day. The assessment of the management process for infectious solid medical waste found that the containment, transportation, and temporary storage processes did not meet the requirements. The evaluation of supporting factors for managing infectious solid medical waste including human resources and facilities also did not meet the criteria. The conclusion was that the management process of infectious solid medical waste at Rumkital Dr. Oepomo Surabaya did not fully meet the requirements. The recommendations that can be given were as follows in the containment process medical waste should not exceed ¾ of its maximum volume and should be tied into a single braid, transportation should use trolleys, and temporary storage should involve the use of freezers. Supporting factors in waste management include the need for personnel to undergo training in medical waste handling and the procurement of complete PPE facilities for waste management personnel.

Abstract

The One Health paradigm, with its integral recognition of human, animal, and environmental health interdependencies, has garnered increasing endorsement in recent years. Equally important is the agro-maritime sector, given its crucial role in food security and international commerce, which is now acknowledged as a fundamental component within the One Health strategy. Contemporary complex health issues such as zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and food safety threats necessitate a holistic, interdisciplinary approach that considers the trifecta of human, animal, and environmental health. The amalgamation of agro-maritime and One Health strategies is paramount in addressing burgeoning challenges that imperil global health security. These encompass the proliferation of zoonotic diseases, the surge in antimicrobial resistance, and escalating concerns surrounding food safety. The significance of advancing surveillance, monitoring, and control measures, along with fostering innovative technologies and strategies, is underscored to pre-empt and mitigate the impacts of these health threats. Spanning agriculture, aquaculture, and fisheries, the agro-maritime sector's substantial role in global health security is highlighted due to its profound influence on food production, nutrition, and environmental sustainability. The One Health model, a comprehensive approach acknowledging the intertwined nature of human, animal, and environmental health, provides a robust framework to confront emerging global health threats such as antimicrobial resistance, zoonotic disease spread, and climate change-induced health impacts. The discourse emphasizes the criticality of interdisciplinary collaboration and the deployment of a holistic perspective to tackle complex global health challenges. By strengthening the argument for the convergence of One Health and agro-maritime sectors, this paper seeks to galvanize proactive and collaborative efforts among stakeholders to fortify global health security in an increasingly unpredictable world

Abstract

The toddler years are a very important period of life where a very rapid growth and development process occurs, namely physical growth and psychomotor, mental, and social development. Nowadays, the problem of malnutrition in toddlers, especially aged 1-5 years, is very serious and needs further treatment. Some literature states that the role of the family, especially family parenting, plays a very important role in the problem of providing nutrition during the toddler years. Providing quality supplementary food/PMT is a solution that must be implemented by parents who have children with nutritional problems. The role of families who do not pay attention to their toddler's diet has an impact on eating patterns that are not by the child's nutritional needs, thus having an effect on the health status of toddlers. This research design uses analytical methods with a Cross Sectional approach. The sampling method was carried out by Total Random Sampling. The independent variable is the role of the family and the dependent variable is the incidence of malnutrition. Research data was collected using a questionnaire and by looking at the KMS book for toddlers. After the questionnaire data was collected, tabulation was carried out and statistical tests were carried out using the Spearman Rank test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results of the study showed that the role of the family was the highest at 42 families (48.8%), and the eating patterns of children under five were mostly in the category of 38 children under five (44.2%). From the results of statistical analysis using the Spearman Rank test, the value ρ = 0.014 < α = 0.05 was obtained. The role of the family is related to the incidence of malnutrition in toddlers aged 1-5 years. Providing health education to families is very important in terms of providing quality supplementary food/PMT to increase family knowledge in feeding children to avoid malnutrition.

Abstract

Dental And Oral Health Care Service Model Based On Appropriate Technology in The Orphanage Community. Residents of orphanages are school-age children in groups who are prone to tooth decay and whose rights and needs are no different from other children their age. Appropriate technology assistance (TTG) is needed to overcome dental and oral health problems in orphanage children. The general objective of this research is to produce a feasible model of appropriate technology-based dental and oral health care (TTG) services and their effective application to improve dental and oral health in orphanage children. The method in this study uses the R&D (Research and Development) method with Pre- Experimental Pretest and Posttest Design research design. Respondents numbered 20 dental health cadres to assess behavior (knowledge, attitudes, actions) and 150 orphanage children (OHI-S; DMF-T). Expert validation test of dental and oral health care service modules based on appropriate technology (TTG) amounted to 67.60% real. Knowledge assessments and actions improved significantly after treatment (p=<0.001, p=0.004, respectively). Attitude assessment did not increase compared to the previous (p = 0.005). The behavior of dental health cadres did not affect OHIS and DMFT (p=0.62, p=0.20, respectively). It can be concluded that the appropriate technology-based dental and oral health care (TTG) service model provides a significant increase in the knowledge and actions of dental health cadres but does not improve attitudes, OHIS, and DMFT.
