This is quantitative research. The population of this research is children (9-14 years old) of Buddhist Sunday School Metta Dhamma in Samirono, Getasan, Semarang. This research uses a saturation sampling technique because of the small population: less than 30 children (aged 9-14 years). Based on the result of data analysis using simple linear regression formula, the magnitude of R Square is 0.744. It means that 74.4% of children’s interest in participating in Metta Dhamma Buddhist Sunday School activity is influenced by Kacchapa Jātaka audiovisual media. The results offer insightful information for Buddhist Sunday School teachers and stakeholders to enhance the efficacy of the teaching and learning process by developing engaging learning media. Instructional implications and research suggestions are provided based on the study's results.

Abstract

This paper examines the meaning of the ritual concept of Aliran Kebatinan Kepercayaan in the Karangpawitan community, Bandung Regency. The center of human ritual activity is God, so humans have a creative attitude in “searching” for God, which is reflected in the original culture. This research aims to discover the concept of God in Aliran Kebatinan Kepercayaan in the Karangpawitan community. The method used qualitative research using Mircea Eliade's phenomenological and historical approach. The results show that the concept of God in Aliran Kebatinan Kepercayaan is that God is everywhere, in the hearts of every human. However, God does not have a form and color. The human cannot compare God with anything in this universe. The concept of awang-awang, uwung-uwung means that Almighty God has already existed when heaven and earth do not yet exist. The Aliran Kebatinan Kepercayaan has no specificity in rituals or the process of worship. The contribution of this study is to determine that the applied ritual is to have a clear mind because people must pass some stages before finally merging with God or being united with God. It is essential to know that the offerings have meaning and good knowledge in the lives and livelihoods of the devotees.

Abstract

Since the inception of Buddhism, the people of Bengal have maintained a very close relationship with Buddhist ideologies. In fact, Bengal appeared as a dominant center of Buddhist culture in the early medieval period (sixth to twelfth century CE) both for its institutional flavour as well as for state- sponsorship. However, with the fall of royal patronage and the conversion of the Buddhists to other religious faiths, Buddhism gradually lost its prominence in Bengal. It was during the colonial period (1757 to 1947 CE), Buddhism again started reviving in different corners of Bengal principally in the early twentieth century. However, the ‘Partition of Bengal Province (in 1947) appeared as a serious setback for the fate of Buddhism in this region. The East Bengali Buddhists had started a new episode of the struggle for survival in India more precisely in West Bengal as ‘refugees’ or as ‘asylum seekers. After their migration to West Bengal, the Bengali-speaking Buddhists have aspired to build up several Viharas (monasteries), Sanghasrams (spiritual hermitage), temples, and institutions in Kolkata, Sub-Himalayan Bengal, and certain other districts of West Bengal. They have preserved and maintained the Buddhist socio-cultural traditions that they have inherited from the southeastern corner of former East Bengal. This paper highlights all these aspects of the Buddhist culture of West Bengal with a fresh outlook.
