Abstract

The rapid development of information technology and social media has significantly influenced the tourism sector, encouraging the adoption of digital marketing to enhance destination attractiveness. This study examines the implementation of digital content design to promote open trips in Sumberjaya Village, Sumur District, Pandeglang Regency, Banten, an area with strong natural tourism potential that remains underexposed. The research emphasizes the development of engaging social media content, community training in content creation, and the impact of digital promotion on tourist interest. The findings indicate that well-designed digital content significantly increases destination visibility, particularly among millennials and Gen Z. Social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook play an important role in reaching these digitally oriented travelers, with Instagram selected as the primary promotional medium due to its visual and interactive features. Using a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, this study actively involved the local community, especially the Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS), in digital content production and promotional activities. This participation not only enhanced Sumberjaya Village’s online presence but also strengthened community ownership in tourism development. In addition, the Open Trip model, allowing individuals to join tour packages without forming groups, proved effective in attracting young tourists seeking affordable, social, and authentic travel experiences. Overall, the integration of digital marketing, community-based tourism, and the Open Trip concept has positively contributed to sustainable tourism development in Sumberjaya Village by increasing destination visibility, generating local income, and strengthening community involvement in tourism management.

Abstract

Sumber Jaya Village possesses significant tourism potential but faces key challenges, including limited community involvement in tourism management, inadequate digital marketing skills within the local Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS), and low destination visibility. This study examines the implementation of the Open Trip model as a strategy for developing community-based tourism in Sumber Jaya Village, Sumur District, Pandeglang, Banten. Despite its rich natural and cultural tourism potential, the village faces challenges related to limited digital promotion capacity and low community involvement in tourism management. This research employs an Integrated Research Approach combined with Participatory Action Research (PAR), involving field observations, semi-structured interviews with members of the Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS), and community-based digital content creation training. The findings indicate that the integration of the Open Trip model with digital marketing strategies through social media platforms such as Instagram and TikTok increases destination visibility and enhances community participation in tourism promotion. The Open Trip strategy enables the development of flexible, affordable, and socially engaging tourism packages that align with the preferences of young travelers. Furthermore, empowering POKDARWIS members to actively produce and manage promotional content increases community involvement and fosters a sense of ownership over tourism development. This approach contributes to increased tourist visits and a more equitable distribution of economic benefits within the village. Overall, the study demonstrates that integrating the Open Trip model with community-based digital marketing aligns with Community-Based Tourism (CBT) principles and provides a practical and inclusive framework for sustainable rural tourism development.

Abstract

One essential ability that requires development is reading. Thus, it is crucial to learn the positive and negative consequences of incorporating platforms like ChatGPT into reading in English as a foreign language (EFL) and practice, and to address learning difficulties that may arise in understanding information. Hence, the research examines the benefits and challenges of using ChatGPT to learn reading skills. However, the author reviews 20 empirical studies published in peer-reviewed journals between 2023 and 2025, using Google Scholar, to achieve that goal. The analysis results were categorized into five themes summarizing each ChatGPT’s benefits and challenges related to EFL students’ reading experiences. The first three themes were associated with the potential benefits of integrating ChatGPT to learn reading skills. Those themes were: (1) ChatGPT provides EFL learners with fast replies, (2) ChatGPT helps EFL learners to understand unfamiliar words, and (3) ChatGPT supports EFL learners in improving their reading skills. The other themes concerned the challenges of using ChatGPT to develop reading skills. Those themes were: (4) ChatGPT prevents EFL learners from thinking critically, and (5) ChatGPT provides EFL learners with unclear information. The researcher discusses themes in light of the relevant literature and presents recommendations for future research.
