Abstract

School Counselors have the right to self-improvement to enhance their professional competencies. However, not all counselors have such opportunities, especially those in underdeveloped, frontier, and outermost regions (3T areas). This article discusses the self-development of counselors in a 3T area using eco-art counseling techniques to address psychosocial issues in adolescents, applying an Asset Based Community Development/ABCD approach. The service results indicate that this mentorship could improve the professional competencies of madrasah counselors in handling student psychosocial cases. Students were able to express their emotions through creative expression using local natural materials such as fine Natuna Marus beach sand, gonggong shells, and plants that are mostly found in Natuna such as cloves. They are interacting and collaborating with counselors and getting support from their friends who give positive responses to their work. Creative expressions led to artworks with potential economic values, such as motifs for hijab, Natuna's typical sarung. The community service recommends that future services should further specify student psychosocial issues and develop an educational module for eco-art counseling.

Abstract

Coffee is one of the most popular caffeinated beverages globally, with a continuously growing commercial demand. This community service project aims to implement a coffee ground-based bio-battery device and utilize it as a learning medium for high school physics in Tomohon, in collaboration with the Tomohon Physics Teacher Working Group (MGMP Fisika). The program was conducted using Service Learning methods, which integrate community service with academic learning to achieve meaningful outcomes for both students and the community. The implementation consisted of five stages: socialization, training, technology implementation, mentoring, and evaluation, along with program sustainability efforts. The outcomes achieved include the availability of a coffee ground bio-battery prototype, a renewable energy learning module, and increased knowledge and skills among partners, as shown by pretest and posttest results. Additional outputs include the publication of articles in electronic and print media, activity implementation videos, and a guide module for developing and using the bio-battery prototype. Furthermore, an additional outcome was obtaining copyright for the technology. This project produced a bio-battery device that serves not only as an alternative energy source but also as an effective and relevant physics learning medium, enhancing students' awareness of renewable energy and environmental sustainability.

Abstract

The increasing amount of stress that occurs in the educational environtment is experienced by students because they feel less able to deal with academic demands. This background of the community service activities carried out at SMPN 180 Jakarta, especially for students in class 8C. This community service program is carried out through psychoeducation with the theme “Little Steps of Coping Stress”, which includes expository teaching, discussion, module provision, and practice of butterfly hug techniques which aim to equip students with effective coping strategies to reduce the academic stress they experience. PKM activities are carried out using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) method with a qualitative approach and purposive sampling technique to select participants who experience academic stress. The results of the implementation showed a decrease in academic stress experienced by students, increased understanding of coping strategies, and their readiness to face academic pressure more adaptively as evidenced by the evaluation through the results of the pre-test, post-test, and two-week assistance. This shows that the psychoeducation was successful in helping students reduce their academic stress levels.

Abstract

The absence of a standardized operational-level practical test instrument for Technology Nautical Study Program cadets has led to inconsistencies in evaluating critical competencies, ultimately affecting the quality of training and readiness in maritime operations. This community service activity was initiated to address this gap by identifying the root causes behind the lack of implementation, such as inadequate alignment between practical assessments and core competencies, and by highlighting the consequential impact on vocational education quality. Using a qualitative approach through lectures, training sessions, and Participatory Action Research (PAR), this study involved lecturers and cadets from AMSS and Poltekpel Barombong. The intervention focused on socializing and implementing a competency-based assessment instrument that, based on preliminary indicators and observational data, demonstrated improvements in measuring participant skills with increased objectivity, validity, and reliability. However, limitations remain in that the instrument currently addresses only operational-level competencies and does not fully encompass all practical scenarios aligned with core competencies. The findings underscore the need for further research to expand and refine assessment tools, particularly at the management level, thereby contributing to enhanced vocational training and competency-based education in the nautical field.

Abstract

The transformation toward digital marketing has become a critical challenge for rural micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the era of technological disruption, yet limited knowledge and infrastructure often hinder adaptation. This study aims to identify the effectiveness of product photography mentoring using smartphones as an innovative and affordable solution for developing visual marketing among MSMEs in Mekar Jaya Village. The community service program adopted a Community Development approach and participatory training methods involving 50 local MSME actors. Implementation was conducted in three stages: (1) preparation and needs analysis, (2) intensive training and hands-on practice, and (3) mixed-method evaluation and monitoring. Results indicated a significant improvement in participants’ skills, with a 77% average increase based on pre- and post-test evaluations. Product photo quality improved across lighting (50%), composition (50%), focus (35%), and background (45%). Economically, 40% of participants secured new customers, achieving an average monthly revenue increase of 32% one month post-program. The program’s success validated the Low-Cost High-Impact Visual Marketing model, which leverages community-owned technological resources, offering a cost-effective empowerment strategy compared to expensive equipment investments or professional outsourcing.
