Abstract

Insomnia is a sleep disorder characterized by difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep despite adequate opportunity to rest, which can lead to impaired daytime functioning, fatigue, frequent nocturnal awakenings, and long-term health risks such as cardiovascular disease, metabolic disorders, cognitive decline, and increased mortality risk. Adolescents are particularly vulnerable to insomnia due to sleep needs of approximately 8–10 hours per night, which are often not fulfilled because of academic demands and social activities. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as foot hydrotherapy using pandan leaves (Pandanus amaryllifolius), are proposed as an alternative approach to improve sleep quality. This study aimed to determine the effect of foot hydrotherapy using pandan leaves on insomnia among adolescents at SMPN 1 Negara. The study used a quantitative approach with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The population consisted of 93 adolescents experiencing insomnia, with samples selected using convenience sampling. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and the Jakarta Insomnia Rating Scale (KSPBJ-IRS). Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores with a p-value < 0.001, indicating a reduction in insomnia levels after the intervention. In conclusion, foot hydrotherapy using pandan leaves has a significant effect in reducing insomnia among adolescents.

Abstract

Insomnia in the elderly was recognized as a common health problem associated with aging, often leading to decreased well-being and quality of life. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of aromatherapy relaxation in improving sleep quality among the elderly through a review of published research. A literature review was conducted using Science Direct, PubMed, Wiley Library, and Google Scholar. Articles published between November 2018 and November 2023 were screened using the PRISMA method with inclusion criteria of accessible full texts from both national and international journals. Quality appraisal was performed with the JBI Critical Appraisal tool. Four quasi-experimental studies met the criteria and were analyzed. The findings indicated that aromatherapy, particularly with lavender and jasmine oils, was effective in reducing insomnia symptoms and enhancing sleep quality in elderly populations. The intervention was found to be safe, simple, and affordable as a non-pharmacological option. It was concluded that aromatherapy could serve as an effective complementary therapy to support elderly health, while healthcare providers were encouraged to promote its use and future studies were recommended to explore additional influencing factors.

Abstract

Breast milk production is a key determinant in the success of exclusive breastfeeding, and one of the main influencing factors is breastfeeding frequency. Increased breastfeeding frequency stimulates the release of prolactin and oxytocin hormones, which support milk production and ejection; however, in practice, some mothers still breastfeed infrequently, leading to suboptimal milk production. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between breastfeeding frequency and breast milk production among breastfeeding mothers at TPMB Tias Yuniasri Maesan, Bondowoso. The study used a correlational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of breastfeeding mothers with infants aged 0–6 months (n = 45), and a sample of 30 respondents was selected using purposive sampling. The independent variable was breastfeeding frequency, while the dependent variable was breast milk production. Data were collected using questionnaires and observation sheets and analyzed using the Spearman Rank test with a significance level of α = 0.05. The results showed that most respondents had frequent breastfeeding (60%) and smooth breast milk production (66.7%). Statistical analysis indicated a strong and significant relationship between breastfeeding frequency and breast milk production (r = 0.782; p = 0.000). In conclusion, higher breastfeeding frequency is associated with better breast milk production, and health workers are recommended to strengthen lactation education and counseling to encourage optimal breastfeeding practices in support of exclusive breastfeeding programs.

Abstract

Nutrition literacy and tools for calculating individual energy needs remain limited among adolescents and adults, potentially hindering balanced diet implementation in daily life. This study aims to develop SehatMate, a web-based nutrition system integrating Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) and Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) calculations with dietary recording and a food composition database. An Agile software engineering approach was used with iterative planning, UML-based design, web framework and MySQL implementation, followed by testing, documentation, and deployment. BMR is calculated using the Harris–Benedict equation, while TDEE is derived from an activity factor. Food composition data from the Indonesian Food Composition Table were integrated into the system. System validation included comparison with manual calculations and black-box testing of user and admin functions across devices and browsers. The results show that SehatMate provides modules for registration, profile management, energy requirement calculation, food selection, daily intake recording, and nutrient adequacy recap. Findings indicate that system-generated BMR and TDEE values are consistent with manual calculations, and functional testing confirms system reliability across platforms. In conclusion, the system meets functional requirements for supporting nutrition education and dietary planning; however, further development is required to expand the nutrient database, improve personalization, and evaluate usability in real-user settings.

Abstract

Chronic Suppurative Otitis Media (CSOM) is a persistent inflammation of the middle ear that requires precise radiological evaluation to prevent severe complications. Non-contrast High-Resolution Computed Tomography (HRCT) of the mastoid is the gold standard for assessing temporal bone anatomy. This study aimed to describe the technical procedure of non-contrast mastoid CT scans for CSOM clinical cases at PMI Bogor Hospital. The method used was a descriptive qualitative study with a case study approach on a pediatric patient. Data were collected through observation of scanning parameters and image reconstruction techniques. The results showed that the examination was performed using multiple reconstruction planes. Analysis of different slice thicknesses revealed that 1 mm axial slices provided superior spatial resolution for visualizing the ossicular chain and mastoid air cells compared to 3 mm slices. Radiological findings confirmed normal mastoid pneumatization and intact ossicles, effectively excluding complications despite clinical symptoms. In conclusion, the implementation of thin-slice reconstruction at PMI Bogor Hospital is essential for high diagnostic confidence. This technical approach ensures an accurate "map" of the temporal bone, which is vital for clinical management and surgical planning.

Abstract

Newborns, particularly low birth weight (LBW) infants, have an immature thermoregulatory system that increases the risk of hypothermia due to an imbalance between heat production and heat loss. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of obstetric interventions in maintaining neonatal body temperature stability through kangaroo mother care (KMC), swaddling, and their combination. This study used a literature review method with a descriptive analysis approach of experimental and quasi-experimental studies with pre-test and post-test designs. Data were obtained through observation of neonatal body temperature before and after intervention using digital thermometers, with samples consisting of newborns selected through purposive sampling. The results showed that KMC significantly increased body temperature by an average of 0.47°C, while swaddling helped maintain temperature but did not show a significant increase. The combination of KMC and swaddling produced the most optimal results, with an increase of 0.58°C. In conclusion, KMC, either alone or combined with swaddling, is an effective, simple, and economical intervention to maintain neonatal body temperature stability and prevent hypothermia.
