Abstract

Christ and Debata Mulajadi na Bolon are two distinct entities, understood respectively by Christianity and by Batak-Toba culture. Christ is known as the incarnate logos (John 1:1-5) and the firstborn and invisible image of God (Colossians 1:15), while Debata Mulajadi na Bolon is only approached as “the supreme god of Batak-Toba”; although the titles ascribed to him are similar to those ascribed to God. This article will build on the idea that Christ is Debata Mulajadi na Bolon himself, although it must be acknowledged that there are differences, especially in their Trinity theology. Debata Mulajadi na Bolon is not a pagan figure but God who presents Himself as Debata Mulajadi na Bolon. The three biblical texts that will be discussed in this article are the bridge of this transformation effort, also using two approaches namely Niebuhr’s typology, Christ the Transformer of Culture and Bevans’ synthesized contextual theology model.

Abstract

Cultural traditions in Indonesia are very diverse, including the Mawe tradition on Buru Island, Maluku which is believed to be able to provide clues to uncover cases or problems that often occur. Uniquely, this tradition uses the spirits of deceased ancestors, which is a ritual led by traditional elders to provide clues that can explain a problem. This study uses a qualitative method with a case study approach and analysis of supporting Bible verses. As a result, from the theological studies conducted, it is known that rituals of seances have also been carried out in the biblical tradition, but it is clear that this tradition is contrary to the Bible. The Christian theological view is very clear that believers are not justified under any circumstances to perform seances because it is a form of syncretism.

Abstract

Digital culture seems to be well received in society because the benefits are unavoidable. This should be acknowledged, but this welcome should also be anticipated with a critical attitude because in contrast to its usefulness, digital technology also contributes to the emergence of negative influences and impacts on its users. This is also a concern for STT ATI students because digital culture has also permeated their life context. In this regard, the purpose of this study is to examine the experiences of STT ATI students amid digital flow to see these problems. This study uses a qualitative research method with a phenomenological study. The results of this study are that: first, STT ATI students quite understand digital culture based on their experience; second, digital culture has an impact on them, both positively and negatively; third, ethically they have a fairly good response in dealing with digital challenges, but on the other hand there are also weaknesses in perceptions about the subject. In this regard, more intense training is needed so that they are ready to face the digital era with all its consequences.

Abstract

Pemali is a prohibition or taboo. One of the rituals that are still strong in Toraja society is the pemali Keissinna Padang (prohibition when plants bear fruit). This prohibition relates to not being allowed to go to the cemetery, while the rice is temporarily growing and bearing fruit in the fields. When this is violated it will cause rice plants to be damaged. The purpose of this study was to find out how the Toraja Church members of the Tambuntana congregation responded to the pemali Keissinna Padang. The research method used is qualitative research with observation and interviews and elaborated in theological-critical reflection. So from this study, it can be concluded that first, pemali Keissinna Padang is a good thing because it will regulate the order of human life so that they don't do anything arbitrary when the rice is temporarily growing in the fields. Second, pemali keissinna padang is still relevant in the lives of Toraja church members in the Tambuntana Congregation, because they always blame people who go to the graves when the rice is growing and bearing fruit. Third, this pemi is maintained as a form of mutual agreement with the whole community through the kalua'ada group (customary deliberation). Fourth, this pemi has the most basic meaning, namely love and respect for what has been agreed and done together.
