Abstract

The present study aims to describe Students’ Skills and the difficulty faced by students in Writing Descriptive Text for Tenth Grade Students in SMA Negeri 1 Banjar. The design applied was qualitative research. The research subjects are X MIPA 1 Students of SMAN 1 Banjar who had difficulties when writing descriptive text. The data of this research are the result of students’ test results and the students’ answers in the open-ended questionnaire. The research instruments were a test and an open-ended questionnaire. Data reduction, data display and drawing conclusions were used to analyse the data. The result of this research shows that the students of X MIPA 1 writing skills are relatively low with a score of 60 which is lower than the target score of ≤ 70 and the students of X MIPA 1 have difficulty in writing descriptive text, the difficulties are difficulties in content, difficulties in grammar, and difficulties in vocabulary, difficulties in organization and spelling.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate students' perceptions of English teacher competences at SMK Negeri 1 Sawan. Pedagogy, personality, social, and professional competence were among the competencies assessed. The mixed method was used in this study. The data for this study were gathered quantitatively and qualitatively through the use of an online questionnaire and an interview guide. In the academic year 2020/2021, twelfth-grade students were given an online questionnaire. The questionnaire was completed by 152 students. The interviews were conducted with fifteen students. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan buku ajar percakapan pariwisata bahasa Jepang di SMK Pariwisata BIWI Tabanan. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian dan pengembangan (Research and Development). Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah kurikulum, silabus, guru pengampu mata pelajaran bahasa Jepang dan siswa kelas XII SMK Pariwisata BIWI Tabanan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui observasi, wawancara dan survei. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan teknik analisis data kualitatif dan kuantitatif. Hasil yang diperoleh dalam penelitian ini adalah (1) buku ajar percakapan pariwisata Bahasa Jepang untuk siswa Kelas XII SMK Pariwisata BIWI Tabanan yang menyajikan materi pembelajaran Bahasa Jepang yang digunakan untuk hotel dan restoran. (2) Berdasarkan hasil uji ahli materi dan media, buku ajar yang dikembangkan layak untuk diproduksi dengan revisi.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the comparison of the moral values in Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs by Vera Southgate version and snow white and the seven dwarfs by Regis Maine version using the pragmatic approach. This research is basic qualitative research. this research used a pragmatic approach in analyzing the moral values of the story snow white and seven dwarfs by Vera Southgate and by Regis Maine. Data in the form of words, phrases, sentences, or fragments from the first chapter to the last chapter. The result of this study is a comparison of moral values in the snow-white story that appears in snow white and the seven dwarfs by Vera Southgate Version and Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs by Regis Maine Version. The two books tell about Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs but with different moral values.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pemahaman membaca siswa melalui teknik skimming-scanning di SMPN 6 Singaraja dan untuk mendeskripsikan masalah dalam penerapan skimming dan scanning pemahaman membaca siswa kelas VII di SMPN 6 Singaraja. Penelitian kualitatif deskriptif adalah metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini. 1 Guru dan 27 siswa menjadi fokus subjek penelitian Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 1) Teknik skimming-scanning diterapkan di kelas dimulai dari persiapan pembelajaran yang dapat dilihat dari materi dan RPP dan siswa mampu memahami kosakata dari kalimat sederhana, mampu membuat referensi sederhana dengan menggunakan true false dan mampu mengidentifikasi ide pokok dari teks pendek dan sederhana. 2) guru dan siswa mengalami kendala pada saat penerapan teknik skimming-scanning di SMPN 6 Singaraja dimana siswa berkemampuan rendah mengalami kesulitan dalam memahami teks yang diberikan oleh guru dan guru harus mampu mengelola kelas.

Abstract

Implication during a conversation is common to happen that often leads to misunderstanding between speakers and listeners. This present study aims to describe and analyze the types of conversational implicature that can be found in Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs by Vera Southgate. The present study is qualitative research applying the close reading method. The data were classified using plot segmentation in order to classify the events based on the sequence using Bordwell’s plot segmentation. The data obtained were analyzed based on Grice’s Theory of the types of conversational implicatures, and the theory of cooperative principles which are also known as maxims of speech. The research comes out with findings that there are 6 violations of conversational maxims. There are 5 violations of maxims of quantity, 2 violations of maxims of quality, 2 violations of maxims of manner, and 1 violation of the maxim of relevance. In other words, the result of the research is that there are violations in terms of conversational maxims in Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs by Vera Southgate which 50% out of the violation is maxims of quantity because, in a story, additional information during a conversation leads into another sequence of events in plot development

Abstract

The ever-developing technology brings many advances in life, including supporting the world of education. Even so, unfortunately there are still many teachers who have not taken advantage of technological advances. This study aims to test the learning media of the Tribunnews Instagram account in exposition text learning for class X students at Bali Mandara State High School. This research is a class action research (CAR). The results of this study indicate that exposition text learning uses news text with social media Instagram Tribunnews. The stages of this research, namely: identifying and formulating problems; analyze problems; formulate action hypotheses; make an action plan and monitor it; carry out the action and observe it; processing and interpreting data; and report. The ability to write news text in cycle 1 obtains an average value of 75 which is included in the sufficient category. After reflection and evaluation towards cycle 2, the average value rose to 85 in the very good category. Therefore, there is an increase in learning outcomes by using the Tribunnews Instagram account on the ability to write news exposition texts by class X students at Bali Mandara State High School

Abstract

This research aimed at investigating the class difference issues occurred among the oppressed class in Susanne Colllins’ The Hunger Games (2008) using Marxist literary criticism. Using Interactive Model Analisis, this qualitative research revealed two major class difference issues: exploitation and discrimination. The exploitation issue was identified in the form of children exploitation; meanwhile, the discrimination issue was identified in the form of socio-economic discrimination. Those issues appeared due to the three identified factors: poverty, false consciousness, and welfare struggle. Therefore, this research suggested the future research to dig and reveal the social class issue presented in the other novel of The Hunger Games Trilogy.

Abstract

This study was aimed at investigating reflective thinking teachers during remote learning in SMP Negeri 2 Tejakula and the problems that they encounter in which it was viewed from the English teachers’ perceptions. Descriptive Quantitative Study was used as a research design of this study which involved the English teachers of SMP Negeri 2 Tejakula as the participants. The data were obtained through survey and interview. English teachers’ self-reflected questionnaire by Choy et al (2017) was adapted in conducting the survey. The results of this study showed that the English teachers show a positive response toward the questionnaire in which it was also found that there were four skills used in the reflective thinking during remote learning in SMP Negeri 2 Tejakula. Then, this research found that the teachers’ problem was due to the low insight of the teachers in using online application where the students gave bad comments because the teachers ignored students’ feedback in the application
