Abstract

English literacy has been considered as a crucial life skill for young learners. However, this has not been given adequate attention on its implementation, as so far it was not connected to the real-world literacy. This study aimed at developing literacy activities in teaching English as a foreign language for young learners, especially for toddlers. The study used Design and Development (D&D) as the design, in which the model of Richey and Klein (2007) was used as the model in having this research done. This model consisted of four steps namely analysis, design, development, and evaluation. Teacher and students of toddlers became the subjects in this research. The instruments used in collecting the data were the analyzed syllabus from Aura Sukma Insani Bilingual Kindergarten and product evaluation sheet. This study found that the developed literacy activities for teaching has been suitable for the level of toddlers. This is confirmed from the calculation of product evaluation in the score of 4.7, meaning it is classified as Excellent. With the product developed, it was gratefully expected that the teacher’s book could be used in teaching English, as well as improving their English literacy skill.keyword : Literacy activities, toddlers, teacher’s book

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of flipped learning (FL) 3.0 and self-regulated learning (SRL) on the speaking performance of twelfth-grade students in Buleleng. This study was experimental study that focused on Quasi-Experimental design. The sample was 63 students that classified into the control and experimental class through random sampling to the intact groups. Data were collected from the speaking performance score and questionnaires. The results showed that significant difference of students speaking performance taught by FL 3.0 and conventional method was 0.048, means that it was significant. Students' speaking performance difference who has low and high SRL was 0.568, means that it was not significant. The interaction effect of FL 3.0 and SRL was 0.790, means that they had no interaction effect. FL 3.0 could be used in teaching speaking because it had significant effect on students' speaking performance even though the students have high or low SRL.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the simple effect and interaction effect of flipped learning 3.0 (FL 3.0) and self-regulated learning (SRL) on students speaking performance in SMAN 1 Sukasada. This study was quasi-experimental research. Fifty-three tenth-grade students were the sample of this study that were divided into two groups, namely experimental and control groups. The data were collected through a post-test and survey. The data were analyzed using a two-way ANOVA. The result showed that flipped learning 3.0 did not give a significant difference on students’ speaking performance, but the effect size showed a medium effect. On the other hand, SRL gave a significant difference on students’ speaking performance between those who have high and low SRL. There was no interaction effect between FL 3.0 and SRL. Through the implementation of FL 3.0 and SRL, the students were stimulated to learn independently which can create their understanding and more active.

Abstract

In the 21st century, the use of innovative and digital-based teaching media are required. This research aimed at examining the effect of gamification based on local stories as teaching media on fifth grade elementary school students’ motivation. Quasi experimental with one group pre-test post-test design was implemented. The study was conducted at SD N 1 Penarukan where 25 of fifth grade students in academic year 2019/2020 were involved as the sample of study. Three instruments were administered to collect the data; pre-test post-test, treatment instrument and interview. The result showed that post-test mean score has significantly improved compared to pre-test score (42.29 > 23.35). Hypothesis testing result (paired sample t-test) showed the tobs value was higher than tcv (20.811>1.677) with α = 0.05, which indicated that gamification positively affected students’ motivation. The interview result revealed that the students are highly motivated to learn by using gamification.

Abstract

Listening is one of the most important language skills to be learned by students. However, it is very difficult for teachers to teach these skills in learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. Teachers need innovative teaching techniques, one of which is using video media. This study aims to investigate the impact of using project-based learning videos on students' listening comprehension skills. The population in this study involved 4th grade elementary school students. The sample in this study used 40 grade 4 students from one intact class that were selected with a specific purpose. This research includes quantitative research with one group pretest-posttest design. The data collection instrument in this study used a listening comprehension test and a listening comprehension assessment rubric. The data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistical analysis. From the results of the study, it was found that the mean value of the group at the posttest was 86.85 which was greater than the mean value at the pretest, which was 75.75. The standard deviation on the pretest also shows a value of 5,678 and the standard deviation on the posttest is 3,180. From the results of statistical inferential analysis shows that the value of Sig. (2-tailed) is .000. and lower than Sig. levels (.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that there is a significant impact on the use of project-based learning videos on students' listening comprehension during the covid-19 pandemic.
