<![CDATA[ABSTRAKPemberontakan adalah penolakan terhadap ketaatan atau perintah. Ini merujuk pada perlawanan terbuka pada perintah otoritas yang teratur. Pemberontakan yang dilakukan perempuan terjadi ketika mereka tidak mendapat keadilan. The Color Purple awalnya diterbitkan pada 1982 oleh Alice Walker dan setahun berikutnya memenangkan dua penghargaan yaitu The Pulitzer Prize dan The American Book Award dalam kategori fiksi. Setelah penerbitan pertama, ada beberapa kritik terhadap karya ini perihal budaya masyarakat Afrika-Amerika yang di gambarkan dalam karya ini. Salah satu karakter wanita dalam novel ini adalah Sofia. Sofia adalah istri dari Harpo. Dia adalah tipe wanita pemberani dan mandiri. Dia pernah di pukul oleh siaminya dan dia membalas memukul suaminya hingga akhirnya Sofia meninggalkan Harpo dan dia di penjara karena merendahkan walikota. Dalam novel ini menunjukkan perkebangan Sofia dari seorang pemberontak menjadi penurut dan kembali menjadi pemberontak. <![CDATA[ABSTRACT The Gangulis Double Consciousness through Literacy Practices in Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Namesake Name : Erika Putri Ramadhani Reg. Number : 14020154020 Study Program/Year : S1 English Literature/ 2014 Faculty : Languages and Arts Institution : State University of Surabaya Advisor : Pratiwi Retnaningdyah Ph.D. This study analyses Ashima’s double consciousness that has been depicted through literacy practices. Literacy practices which considered with texts, pictures, colors, songs, food recipes and fabrics are concerned as communicative forms which can uncover the details of Ashima’s double vision that becomes one in her as an Indian American. Double consciousness is the mingle feeling as the way to perceiving two different cultures of hers. This research aimed to give the literacy knowledge which represented into literary works through introducing the literacy practices as the multimodality that can be the media to deliver the information and observe the character’s background of knowledge. This research examines two research questions. First is discussing how is Ashima’s double consciousness depicted through multimodal literacy practices and second is explaining how does Ashima’s responses to the double consciousness in Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Namesake. Based on the analyses this study reveal that Ashima’s double consciousness is depicting through Desh magazine and silk Sari. Reading Indian magazine and not the other famous women magazine in America as the way she negotiates her double consciousness. Wearing silk Sari for most in her everyday life also shows her Indian sense is more dominant compared with her American culture. While Ashima’s responses her double consciousness as being a wife is reflecting through her Indian food recipe and as being a mother is depicting when she raising her son as Bilingual. ABSTRAK Kesadaran Ganda Karakter Ganguli Ditunjukkan Melalui Artefak Keaksaraan dalam Novel The Namesake Karya Jhumpa Lahiri Name : Erika Putri Ramadhani Nomer Regristrasi : 14020154020 Program Studi/Tahun : S1 English Literature/ 2014 Fakultas : Languages and Arts Institusi : State University of Surabaya Dosen pembimbing : Pratiwi Retnaningdyah Ph.D. Penelitian ini membahas tentang kesadaran ganda Ashima yang tergambarkan oleh artefak keaksaraan. Artefak keaksaraan yang terdiri dari teks, gambar, warna, lagu, resep masakan dan kain/baju dimaknai sebagai media komunikasi yang dapat menjelaskan mengenai pandangan ganda Ashima sebagai seorang India Amerika. Kesadaran ganda disini adalah perasaan campur aduk sebagai proses penjelasan perasaan Ashima tentang dua budaya berbeda yang ada padanya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pengetahuan keaksaraan sastra melalui pengenalan artefak keaksaraan sebagai media untuk memberikan informasi dan analisa ilmu latar belakang dari seorang karakter. Penelitian ini meneliti dua pertanyaan yang dijadikan riset masalah dalam pembahasan. Pertama membahas tentang bagaimana kesadaran ganda Ashima terambarkan memalui artefak keaksaraan dan yang kedua menjelaskan bagaimana respon Ashima mengenai kesadaran ganda yang dimilikinya dalam novel The Namesake karya dari Jhumpa Lahiri. Berdasarkan pembahasan analisis dapat diketahui bahwa kesadaran ganda Ashima tergambarkan melalui majalah Desh dan baju tradisional India, Sari sutera. Memilih untuk membaca majalah India dan bukannya majalah wanita terkenal di Amerika sebagai cara Ashima dalam menggambarkan kesadaran ganda. Mengenakan baju Sari sutera hamper di setiap harinya menunjukkan sisi India Ashima yang lebih dominan dibandingkan budaya Amerika Ashima. Sedangkan respon Ashima mengenai kesadaran ganda sebagai seorang istri tergambarkan melalui resep masakan Indianya dan sebagai seorang ibu tergambarkan ketika dia membesarkan anak lelakinya sebagai seseorang yang pandai dalam dua bahasa. <![CDATA[Sebuah astract Penelitian ini difokuskan pada biseksualitas dalam novel Call Me By Your Name karya Andre Aciman. Analisis dibagi menjadi dua masalah utama. Yang pertama berbicara tentang gejala biseksualitas karakter laki-laki yang digambarkan dalam novel. Yang kedua berbicara tentang faktor-faktor yang memicu karakter laki-laki menjadi biseksual dalam novel. Tesis ini menganalisis bagaimana biseksualitas tercermin dalam karakter laki-laki dalam novel seperti Elio Perlman dan Oliver. Andre Aciman mengambil tindakan berbeda untuk memerankan karakter prianya dalam novel, dia tidak secara langsung mengatakan bahwa karakter prianya adalah biseksual. Data diambil dari novel Call Me By Your Nameoleh Andre Aciman dalam bentuk dialog, kutipan, frasa, dan deskripsi. Analisis menggunakan konsep seksualitas, teori orientasi seksual, konsep biseksualitas dan teori aneh di mana itu terkait dengan karakter laki-laki dalam novel. Konsep seksualitas digunakan untuk menganalisis karakter laki-laki karena dijelaskan bahwa orang selalu memiliki keadaan pikiran bahwa seksualitas adalah sesuatu yang terlarang dan tabu untuk dibicarakan. Orientasi seksual dan konsep biseksualitas digunakan untuk menganalisis bahwa penting bagi seseorang untuk mengetahui lebih banyak tentang orientasi mereka atau untuk membicarakannya dengan orang lain. Teori Queer digunakan untuk menganalisis orang-orang yang memiliki orientasi seksual berbeda. Dalam Call Me By Your Name, karakter pria dalam memainkan peran utama dalam cerita, mereka belum tahu tentang orientasi seksual mereka dan bingung tentang apa yang mereka rasakan. <![CDATA[Maleficent is an American dark fantasy film produced by Robert Stormberg in 2014, from a screenplay by Linda Wooverton. This movie is an adaptation of Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty (1959). The point of this thesis was to reveal the character of Maleficent herself as by standart in fairy tales she had multiple character inside of her. For some reason she is the witch, but for some people she is the fairy godmother. The binary opposition here is loud and clear so it is hard to distinguish the character inside Maleficent herself, thus the theory of Archetype by Carl Gustav Jung were used to differentiate what is Maleficent in this story, what role is being taken as her purpose, what are the definitive changes through the movie that Maleficent undergoes. All of the question were thrown into two main research which are the type of archetype in Maleficent and the individuation process of Maleficent. First topic of analysis will be the four main archetype of carl gustav jung that can be extracted from a literal 300 type of archetypes in literature section. The four main archetype is the persona which means the mask of a person, the shadow which an evli lurks beneath the character, anima and animus which about the binary consciousness of one’s character depends on the gender, and lastly the self, which happens to be the final archetype that combined from the ID and the ego of one’s character. Second analysis will be the individuation process of the character throughout the movie. Maleficent as a witch, originally, is not a merely simple witch just like how the fairy tales go, rather that she is a complex character that experience a development.]]>

<![CDATA[AbstractThis study discuss about fear of abandonment on the main character named Charlie. The theory uses to analyse the studyis paranoid-schizoid position by Melanie Klein about children psychoanalysis. It focuses on the textual information on thenovel which made this study a descriptive qualitative study. The main data is taken from Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks ofBeing a Wallflower and journal articles as the supporting data. Charlie is the main focus of this study. This study’s purposesis to analyze the symptoms of fear of abandonment Charlie has and the factors that caused him to have this fear as hisdisplacement. The mechanism of this study is by analyzing the early mental state of Charlie with the paranoid-schizoidposition theory by Melanie Klein. The analysis point out that Charlie’s symptoms of having a fear of abandonment iscaused by trauma of being left by people he loves when he was a child and by the lack of love and affection he receivefrom his family. The analysis and discussion prove that Melanie Klein’s theory about the hunger of love and affection theadult may have when they grow up came from the absent of a mom figure which may result several displacement inadulthood including the fear of abandonment.Keywords: content, formatting, article]]>

<![CDATA[This research discusses about contribution of hegemony to cause racism in J.M. Coetzee’s Waiting for the Barbarians. The analysis uses the theory of hegemony and racism. The method of this research is post-structural, which it integrates to objective approach as it intends to see the textual and chain it in inter-textual webs of the cases, facts and problems. For the data, it is taken from the citation of the action of hegemony and racism in the novel. For finding the impact of hegemony on racism, it should see the ideology of people with based by the consent of people. The action of people will refer to the cause of their consent. The problem of hegemony, it is like power of militarism that is based by the consent of people and pushes the happening of racial action which it is trigger by the hatred of people toward barbarians. <![CDATA[ABSTRACT Musanto, Rifky. 2019. Bullying and Its Impacts toward August in R.J. Palacio’s Wonder. English Department. State University of Surabaya. Advisor: Pratiwi Retnaningdyah, Ph.D. Keywords: verbal, behavioral, symbolical bullying, and impacts Palacio’s Wonder tells a story of a boy with facial deformation. His facial deformation makes his face look different than the other. Some of his friends, especially Julian, call him bad such as monster, zombie, and so on. It explains that the real situation to discuss is about the bully and how it gives impacts. Therefore, if it has to be formulated into questions, it can be listed to two points as follows: (1) how is bullying toward August depicted in R. J. Palacio’s Wonder? And (2) What are the impacts of the bullying toward August in R. J. Palacio’s Wonder? To reveal those questions, this research uses Olweus’s perspective on bully (1993) with additional points of the types from conceptions of Barry E. McNamara and Francine J. McNamara (1997). The approach of this research is textual approach, the technique of data collection is documentation, and the technique of data analysis is interpretation. This research results that August receives some kinds of bullying such as verbal, behavioral, and symbolical. Those affect to August’s life such as traumatic disorder (anxiety) and lack of social motivation. However, August finally can fight back against bullying by making achievement in his school.]]>

Kata Kunci: poskolonial, perlawanan, kolonisasi, kebebasaan, masyarakat Penelitian ini menganalisis tentang perlawanan masyarakat melawan kolonisasi di Kangan yang dilakukan oleh orang mereka sendiri dalam cerita Anthills of the Savannah karya Chinua Achebe. Penelitian ini menggunakan konsep perlawanan dan teori poskolonial untuk menganalisa bentuk-bentuk perlawanan dan dampaknya bagi masyarakat. Poskolonial terbentuk diantara konsep perlawanan dan ide-ide tentang kebebasan, kemerdekaan, identitas, dan kepribadian. Penelitian ini menganalisis masalah, yaitu: (1) bentuk-bentuk perlawanan apa saja yang ada dalam cerita, (2) bagaimana karakter melawan kolonisasi Sam dan (3) apa dampak dari peralawanan tersebut bagi masyarakat. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa poskolonial dan konsep-konsep perlawanan ada karena kepekaan masyarakat akan kebebasan dan identitas mereka.]]>

<![CDATA[AbstractSibling Rivalry is a competition among sibling to get the parents’ affection. In the novel, Liam is the oldest child in his family and his personality of sibling rivalry can be seen from his daily behavior toward people around him. The aim of this analysis is to find out the indications of sibling rivalry appear among Bristow’s children especially Liam O’Neill and the impact of sibling rivalry toward Liam’s life. The object of this study is a novel written by Julie Anne Peters’ entitled Luna which was published on April, 2013. The main conflict told in this novel is about rivalry or competition among Bristow’s children that is especially caused by the feeling of jealousy by Liam O’Neill. This study uses the concept of sibling rivalry according to the psychoanalysis theory. The result of the study shows that Liam indicates his personality of sibling rivalry toward his sister. He showed his jealousy and sibling rivalry toward his sister when he was a childand also adolescent. <![CDATA[Abstract This study uses a descriptive qualitative method which focusing on the literary work in the novel and interpretation on the analysis. The main data is taken from the novel The Handmaid’s Tale written by Margaret Atwood. This subject of study focus on the influences of totalitarianism held in the Republic of Gilead and how Offred resists totalitarianism in the novel. In order to analyze the text, this study uses the theory of Totalitarianism by Friedrich and Brzezinski and Hannah Arendt. The result of this analysis depicts the political system of totalitarianism in Gilead influences their societies, especially Offred and the way to resist against the regime. The features of totalitarianism are used to depict the characteristics of totalitarianism that happen in Gilead society. The totalitarianism ideology brings Offred’s action to resist against it.
