Abstract

Abstract This research focused on the illocutionary acts in Game of Thrones TV series. It aims to have a description of the illocutionary acts and to identify the utterances with its meaning in the show. In this study the data were analyzed through qualitative analysis, the data collected in this research are from the show’s script of Game of Thrones Season 6 episode ten entitled “The Winds of Winter”. The data are categorized and explained based on Austin’s classification of illocutionary acts as the pioneer of this theory. The results of the data analysis showed that the illocutionary acts performed by the characters in the series are varies and included in Austin’s classification of illocutionary acts which are verdictives, excersitives, commissives, behabitives and expositives. Based on the results, the illocutionary acts performed by the characters in the series are influenced by the speaker’s or the addressee’s status, it is indicated by how the nobles performed their illocutionary acts are different comparing to the peasants in the show. It could be concluded that the speaker’s background or status are influential when performing illocutionary acts and to gain proper response from the addressee.Key words: speech acts, illocutionary acts, game of thrones.

Abstract

Abstrak.This study aims to describe the meaning of BJ Habibie's Quotes based on linguistic politeness. Data sources were  collected  from  BJ Habibie Quotes  through online news. The research method that used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. Quotes of BJ Habibie in this study has a strong principle of linguistic politeness which includes; (1) formality scale, (2) hesitancy scale, and (3) equality scale, and as interpreted as affective meaning. The result of this study was obtained to a strong principle in every quotes that have a common understanding to the linguistic politeness principle that has been expressed by Robin Lakoff.Keywords : linguistic politeness, quotes, Bj Habibie

Abstract

Variation of languages used transvestites in Merauke city to interacting is very unique and very interesting to study, because in daily communication transvestites often change (switch) languages, from one to another language so this research aims to classify the variation of languages and their functions used by transvestites of Merauke city.This research is a qualitative descriptive study with object of the research is transvestites as informants. Data collection techniques usesociolinguistic research are observe critically method, survey method, and interview method. The data analysis technique was performed using the analysis model by Miles and Huberman namely data reduction, data display, and verification.The results showed that based on the classification in variations of language used by transvestites are: 1) jargon, 2) slang, 3) acronyms, and 4) forms of puns. Whereas the function of language variation used by transvestites are: 1) creating humor, 2) insinuating or mocking, 3) intimidating / familiarizing the relationship, 4) keeping to certain information, 5) refined to something that considered vulgar or taboo, and 6) expressing attitude and feelings of the heart. Abstract

AbstractCigulu-cigulu is a form of a riddle game. A question or a statement was delivered and then the other person or the interlocuters must find the appropiate answer or the respond for the said question or statement. Cigulu-cigulu is the abbreviated form of "cigi kong gulung-gulung in Manado Malay (BMM), If translated to Bahasa Indonesia it means "tarik lalu digulung" (pull then roll). The research method used to find connotative meanings in cigulu-cigulu is a qualitative descriptive method with the intention of understanding phenomena experienced by informants such as behavior, perception, motivation, etc. by means of descriptions in the form of words and language in a specific context that is natural and by utilizing natural methods. The results showed that in cigulu-cigulu found connotative meaning both positive and negative. Positive when statements / questions are submitted or answers to statements / statements; vice versa. Generally cigulu-cigulu associated with food. The food in question is typical or traditional food from Manado. Semantically this is motivated because Manado have varieties of delicious food. Manadonese people are also known to likely state everything directly, not ashamed to express something "taboo" which for some other communities / cultures are considered uncultured or even forbidden to say.Keywords: cigulu-cigulu, BMM, connotative meaning

Abstract

This research aims to have a descriptive of the types of cigarette’s slogans by using qualitative descriptive method. The data collected in this study were taken from the slogans which could be found in television. Furthermore the data were analyzed by using language style theory and semantic to reveal the types of language style and the meaning behind the slogans. After being analyzed, the data then classified based on the types of language style and meaning found in the slogans. The study showed that, in total there were 11 slogans that were analyzed, which consisted of three metaphors, two hyperboles, two ellipses, two repetitions, one alliteration and one litotes. The semantic meaning to analyzed this language style is conceptual meaning.Keywords : language style, slogan, cigarette’s advertisement

Abstract

AbstractThis researchaims to describe mixing code form of the post of facebook account Meme Manado Basudara. The object of this research mixing code form of the post of facebook account Meme Manado Basudara. The research method used is descriptive qualitative method. Data analysis techniques in this research are descriptive analysis and data collection techniques with 2 techniques, namely reading and note taking. Based on the analysis of the research, it was found that the forms of words consisting of nouns (nouns), adjectives (adjectives), verbs (verbs), adverbs (adverbs). The various forms of phrase codes were also found in this research, namely noun phrases, verb phrases and adjective phrases.There are mixing code form of words consisting of mixed forms of noun code (nouns) instead of 7 nouns consisting of 6 Indonesian nouns and 1 English noun. The mixing code form of adjective found 8 adjectives consisting of 6 Indonesian adjectives, 6 Indonesian adjectives and 2 English adjectives. The mixing code form of verbs (11 verbs), 11 verbs consisting of 6 Indonesian verbs, 5 verbs in English. The form of a mixture of adverb code that is 3 Indonesian adverb languages. The results of the research mixing code form of the post of facebook account Meme Manado Basudaraalso found mixed forms of phrase codes including 1 English noun phrase, 1 English verb phrase and 1 English adjective phrase.Keywords : mixed code, social media, ,meme
