Abstract

The world today faces multiple crises—ecological, social, and moral—that call for the emergence of a generation with a strong spiritual foundation, resilience, and clarity of values in every aspect of leadership. This study explored six dimensions of spiritual growth—Abide in Christ, Live by God’s Word, Pray in Faith, Fellowship with Believers, Witness to the World, and Minister to Others—within the context of Christian higher education. Data were collected from 132 students at Universitas Advent Indonesia using the Spiritual Growth Assessment Process (LifeWay Christian Resources).  Descriptive analysis revealed that "Pray in Faith" (M = 4.25, SD = 0.59) and "Abide in Christ" (M = 4.33, SD = 0.61) were the strongest practices, whereas "Minister to Others" (M = 3.54, SD = 0.94) indicated lower engagement. Correlation analysis revealed strong associations among the dimensions, with the highest between Witness to the World and Minister to Others (r = 0.881, p < 0.001). Multiple regression demonstrated that Minister to Others (β = 0.31, p < 0.001), Pray in Faith (β = 0.25, p = 0.01), and Live by God’s Word (β = 0.21, p = 0.03) significantly predicted Fellowship with Believers. The model accounted for 62% of the variance (R² = 0.62, p < 0.001). These findings confirm that prayer and moral formation are pivotal to spiritual growth, emphasizing the transformative role of Christian higher education in shaping graduates who unite intellectual competence with moral integrity and spiritual maturity.

Abstract

This study aims to explore and describe the spiritual meaning in the animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender using James Fowler's theory of spiritual development. In this series, the elements of fire, water, air, and earth are used to illustrate the spiritual journeys of its characters. Fire, as a symbol of love, strength, and transformation, is evident in Zuko's journey, reaching the Reflective-Individualistic stage where he chooses the path of goodness, and in Aang's decision not to kill Ozai, reflecting the Conjunctive Faith stage that transcends rational thought. Water, as a symbol of life and emotion, is represented by Aang, who initially flees from his responsibilities, residing in the Conventional-Synthetic stage before eventually accepting his destiny as the Avatar. Air, symbolizing freedom and intelligence, demonstrates Aang's journey in understanding opposing elements literally at the Mythic-Literal stage. Earth, symbolizing stability and resilience, is reflected in the struggles of Aang and his friends, who reach the Universalizing stage, seeing all humanity as one and committing to the common good. This research employs a qualitative method with descriptive analysis, collecting data through literature studies that include the analysis of written texts, episodes of the animated series, and related literature. The results of this study show how the narrative and symbolism in Avatar: The Last Airbender can teach profound spiritual values, offering new insights into the study of popular culture and spirituality. Through popular media, this research aims to be an effective tool in conveying and teaching spiritual values, helping individuals find inspiration and guidance in their spiritual journeys.

Abstract

This interdisciplinary study bridges psychology, neuroscience, and mystical theology to elucidate mysticism and spirituality's therapeutic role in mental health, particularly in cultivating resilience, emotional stability, and existential recovery. Through descriptive-qualitative analysis of empirical studies, classical theories, and sacred texts across traditions, it probes neurobiological underpinnings—such as Default Mode Network (DMN) dynamics in mystical states—and distinguishes these ethically/clinically from psychosis. Findings reveal that practices like meditation, kataphatic contemplation, and guided visualization modulate brain networks governing emotional regulation, empathy, moral cognition, and autobiographical memory. Framed within coherent ethical narratives, mystical experiences forge existential meaning, aiding adaptation to trauma, loss, and identity crises, thus transcending mere stress reduction toward transformative self-renewal. Yet integration into clinical practice demands navigating ethical complexities: scientific validation, religious bias risks, and safeguarding patient autonomy amid cultural diversity. This research proffers a holistic framework for spirituality in mental health care, urging epistemological openness, interfaith dialogue, and alignment with global models (e.g., US, UK, India, Canada). Ultimately, it posits existential insight and cultural humility as indispensable to contemporary psychological care.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Student Worksheets (LKPD) in Fiqh learning at Al Huda Private Elementary School (MIS), Haurwangi, Cianjur, West Java, as an effort to overcome conventional teaching methods and limitations of learning media. The study used a qualitative case study design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using thematic analysis techniques. The results of the study indicate that the use of structured LKPD can transform Fiqh learning into a more interactive, contextual, and student-centered one, so that students' conceptual understanding and practical skills significantly improve. The implications of this study confirm that LKPD can be an effective, innovative learning medium to bridge the gap between theory and practice in students' daily lives. The originality of this study lies in its focus on practical innovations in Fiqh learning at the elementary school level, while also providing a reference model for educators in designing more engaging and effective teaching materials.

Abstract

In a school environment, principal leadership can impact learning. A leader must be dedicated to advancing the school and raising learning standards in the institution they lead. The principal's role has a significant impact on how education is developed and improved. Focusing on SDN Bunut and SDN Kabandungan in Sukabumi City, this study attempts to characterize and examine principals' management practices in improving learning standards at the elementary school level. This study focuses on how principals plan, implement, and evaluate initiatives to improve educational quality. A qualitative research strategy, combined with a case study methodology and a multi-site research design, was used. In-depth interviews, documentation studies, and observations were used as data collection methods. Based on the research findings, principals at both schools can strategically improve learning standards by promoting a collaborative work environment, encouraging teachers to be professional, making optimal use of available school resources, and enlisting the support of parents and the community to support educational initiatives. The implementation of quality improvement management is also hampered by various issues, including limited budgets, inadequate infrastructure, and differences in teacher skills. On the other hand, data-driven, adaptive, and participatory leadership techniques can be more effective in encouraging the achievement of learning objectives. The findings of this study indicate that improving teaching standards at the elementary school level will largely depend on teacher quality, including the leadership of communicative, visionary, and sensitive principals.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the critical role of Islamic religious education supervisors in enhancing the professionalism of madrasah principals and teachers, particularly at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Yapida Sliyeg-Indramayu, given that educational quality is significantly influenced by the performance of teaching staff and school management. The purpose of this study is to analyze the strategies of Islamic religious education supervisors in their efforts to improve the professionalism of madrasah principals and teachers in this environment. This research used a case study method with a qualitative approach, involving observation, interviews, and documentation to obtain in-depth data on the implementation of supervision and coaching by supervisors. The results indicate that supervisory strategies, including instructional supervision, classroom visits, and administrative and managerial coaching, significantly improved the pedagogical, professional, and social competencies of teachers and madrasah principals. The conclusion of this study is that the active role of Islamic religious education supervisors is highly influential in improving the professionalism and quality of education in madrasahs, although several obstacles remain, including limited resources and a suboptimal understanding of the curriculum. These findings emphasise the need to strengthen supervisor capacity and foster closer collaboration between supervisors, madrasah principals, and teachers to achieve the goals of quality and religious education.

Abstract

This study examines the management of strengthening work culture to enhance student competence in vocational high schools amid technological and industrial advancements. Teachers must continually upgrade their skills for innovative learning, supported by work culture features such as attitudes, skills, knowledge, methods, media, modules, programs, resources, facilities, and budgets—preparing students for business/industry. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data from interviews, observations, and documentation of implementing schools reveal that effective strategies—planning, organization, implementation, and evaluation—boost competence. Mentoring, periodic reviews, and roles of teachers (role models), principals (strategic managers), staff (operational support), students (active participants), and industry partners (internship sites) amplify impacts. Strengthening work culture offers a strategic solution for industry-ready graduates. Recommendations include school and government policies to promote these programs.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze parents' perceptions of Islamic religious education in Islamic boarding schools in developing their children's religious character, using a case study of the Asy Syafi'iyah Islamic Boarding School in Garut. The research method used was a qualitative case study, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation involving parents of students, the boarding school leadership, and teaching staff. The results indicate that the majority of parents have a very positive perception of the Islamic religious education system in Islamic boarding schools, particularly in terms of fostering worship, strengthening morals, and integrating religious and general education. Parents consider the religious, disciplined, and exemplary environment of Islamic boarding schools to be very effective in shaping their children's religious character. The findings also indicate that active parental involvement and intensive communication with the boarding school are important factors in maintaining the continuity of children's character development, both within the boarding school and within the family. However, maintaining the consistency of Islamic boarding school values when children return home poses challenges. This study concludes that positive parental perceptions and support for Islamic religious education in Islamic boarding schools significantly contribute to the successful formation of children's religious character. The results are expected to serve as a reference for developing synergy between Islamic boarding schools and families in children's character education.
