Abstract

This article critically examines Bassam Tibi's conception of contemporary Islamic purification movements in his work "Islamism and Islam" using hadith criticism methodology and the Salaf scholars' tradition as analytical frameworks. The research identifies three fundamental problems in Tibi's thought construction based on manhaj an-naqd al-hadith and the Salaf scholars' critical methodology. First, methodological inconsistencies in understanding the concepts of bid'ah and purification, which contradict the basic principles established in authentic hadiths concerning renewal (tajdid) and purification (tasfiyah). Second, epistemological errors in comprehending the relationship between revealed texts (nass) and ijtihad, which deviate from the Salaf scholars' methodology in understanding the dynamic interaction between the two. Third, secularist bias in analyzing Islamic purification movements that contradicts the Salaf approach in understanding the concept of asalah (authenticity). This research argues that while Tibi raises important issues about extremism in contemporary purification movements, his analysis fundamentally contradicts the hadith criticism methodology and Salaf scholars' tradition. The article concludes that a more balanced approach is needed in examining Islamic purification movements, one that integrates hadith criticism methodology and the Salaf scholars' approach while maintaining a critical stance toward contemporary deviations in Islamic purification practices.

Abstract

This study examines a digital da'wah model promoting religious moderation through the yellow book chanting tradition broadcasted via live streaming on YouTube channels, including Al-Bahjah TV, Ngaji Gus Baha Official, and Ulil Abshar Abdalla. Employing a qualitative approach within a critical paradigm, the research analyzes the historical, social, cultural, economic, and political contexts of digital da'wah. The sorogan tradition is explored using descriptive-qualitative methods and virtual ethnography to capture online interactions. Data were collected through participant observation, interviews, focus group discussions, and documentary analysis. Findings reveal that these channels effectively strengthen religious knowledge among the younger generation through engaging content and innovative visual communication. The sorogan tradition fosters virtual social relationships at individual and group levels, contributing to a relevant da'wah ecosystem in the digital era.

Abstract

The interplay between religion and subculture presents a fascinating lens to examine social change, particularly in urban contexts. This study explores the phenomenon of Muslim Punk communities in Indonesia, a unique fusion of global subcultural identities and local Islamic values. Grounded in the discourse of globalization and transnationalism, the research highlights how subcultures transcend national boundaries, adapting to local norms and religious contexts while maintaining their core identity. Utilizing a phenomenological approach, data were collected from 24 community members (21 males and 3 females) aged 18–30 years, through in-depth interviews, observations, and field notes. The findings reveal that permissive parenting and rebellion against authoritarian familial structures are significant factors driving individuals toward the punk subculture. However, the research also uncovers a significant correlation between religious intensity and community detachment, with heightened religious adherence prompting individuals to reconsider behaviors conflicting with Islamic principles. Quantitative analysis of religious practices, such as daily prayers, fasting, and Quran recitation, coupled with qualitative insights into community dynamics—such as dress codes, substance use, and social rituals—illustrates how religiosity influences self-regulation and social conformity. The study concludes that increased religiosity reduces deviant behaviors, fostering a shift away from subcultural attachment. This phenomenon underscores the innate human inclination toward spiritual fulfillment, transcending subcultural identities and societal norms. By examining the intersection of religion and subculture, this research contributes to broader discussions on globalization, social change, and identity formation in developing countries. It provides critical insights into how global subcultures adapt to localized religious and moral frameworks, offering a valuable perspective for understanding the dynamic interplay between culture and spirituality in an increasingly interconnected world.

Abstract

In Indonesia, religiosity and spirituality have yet to become integral components of medical practice, often remaining separate from conventional approaches such as pharmacological treatments and psychotherapy. Despite most Indonesian physicians adhering to a particular religion, spirituality-based care is rarely applied in clinical settings. Interestingly, surveys from hospitals in the United States reveal that patients desire spiritual dimensions in their healthcare. This study explores the intricate connection between spirituality and health, emphasizing the importance of addressing patients' spiritual needs in the healing process. Employing library research and qualitative descriptive analysis, the findings highlight how spirituality acts as a powerful internal source of strength, fostering meaning, optimism, and resilience in the face of illness. The study reveals that individuals with strong spiritual awareness tend to have more positive attitudes, constructive stress responses, stronger immune systems, and faster recovery times. Historically intertwined with medicine, spirituality has been marginalized in Western practices but remains central in Eastern traditions. The results advocate for healthcare professionals to adopt a holistic approach that integrates biological, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual dimensions, ultimately enhancing patient well-being and advancing medical practice.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out the struggle, thoughts and political strategies of one of the Masyumi party figures, namely Mohammad Isa Anshary, in opposing the spread of communist ideology in Indonesia. This research uses historical methods through four stages, namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation and writing. The data processing technique in this research is descriptive qualitative, namely data analysis simultaneously with data collection. The results of this research show that the figure of Isa Anshary, who is a Masjumi party politician and general chairman of a religious movement in Indonesia, namely Islamic Unity, has a very central role in defending Islamic ideology from attacks by communist ideology which destroys the order of religious, national and state life. He is positioned as a radical Islamic fundamentalist figure because of his uncompromising nature regarding Islam ideology. It is hoped that this research will provide readers with insight into the importance of Islamic political struggles in Indonesian history, as well as their impact on national political dynamics. appreciates the contribution of great figures such as Mohammad Isa Anshary who may be less known to the younger generation, especially his role in opposing the spread of communist ideology in Indonesia and provides an opportunity for readers to reflect on and study Islamic thought in a political and social context. This research presents a reinterpretation of the role, thoughts and political strategies of Mohammad Isa Anshary in the Indonesian political movement, especially in facing the threat of communism which grew rapidly after independence, through efforts to consolidate the Islamic political power he built. So far, many studies have focused more on big figures such as Sukarno, Hatta, or other military figures, while the role of figures such as Isa Anshary, who contributed to Islamic thought and political strategy, often receives less attention.

Abstract

This research focuses on the importance of religious moderation in the pluralistic society of Indonesia, where tolerance and dogma often clash in religious practice. Although religious moderation is widely regarded as an effort to create social harmony, challenges arise when religious dogmas are seen as unquestionable truths. The purpose of this study is to explore how religious moderation can be applied more inclusively through the lens of the philosophy of religion and to find ways to balance tolerance and dogma. This study employs a qualitative approach with a case study design involving in-depth interviews with religious leaders, community figures, and policy document analysis. The findings show that while religious moderation holds the potential to foster social harmony, its application is often hindered by the rigidity of religious dogmas. The contribution of this research is the discovery that the philosophy of religion can provide a more flexible framework for bridging the tension between dogma and tolerance, allowing religious moderation to be more adaptively implemented in a pluralistic society. This research provides new insights into developing a more inclusive and contextual approach to religious moderation, which can strengthen social harmony in Indonesia.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) cooperative learning model in enhancing students’ learning motivation in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at SMP Plus Nurul Hidayah Pasundan. Employing a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through classroom observation and documentation. The data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, consisting of data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that the STAD model fosters a collaborative, democratic, and pedagogically meaningful learning environment. Students demonstrated increased learning motivation, evidenced by active participation, enthusiasm in group discussions, and improved formative assessment outcomes. Theoretically, these results reinforce the principles of positive interdependence and individual accountability within cooperative learning frameworks. Practically, the implementation of STAD facilitates the internalization of Islamic values such as solidarity (ukhuwah), responsibility, and deliberation (mushawarah), while also serving as a relevant pedagogical alternative for character education in the 21st century. This research contributes to the development of contextual and value-based Islamic Religious Education models and positions STAD as a cross-cultural pedagogical strategy that supports the formation of intelligent, critical, and morally grounded Muslim students.

Abstract

This article aims to map the trends of themes and topics discussed in the theses of students in the Qur'anic and Tafsir Studies Program at IAIN Pontianak and to relate them to the vision and mission of the study program and the socio-religious context of the community in West Kalimantan. In analyzing the data, this research employs a qualitative approach with thematic analysis on 20 thesis titles from the year 2024. The results of this study indicate that there is a connection between the students and the vision and mission of the Qur'anic and Tafsir Studies Program at IAIN Pontianak for 2024. The results of this research indicate that students have a connection with the vision and mission of the Qur’anic and Tafsir Studies Program at IAIN Pontianak for the year 2024. This is based on the scientific orientation, approaches, and accommodation towards the Borneo culture. The vision of the Qur’anic and Tafsir Studies Program emphasizes the importance of excellence and openness in the study of Islam and local Borneo culture. In addition, in the research, students also support the mission of the Qur’anic and Tafsir Studies Program, particularly in terms of scientific excellence and research in Islamic studies. The research theme of students also strengthens the cultural heritage that forms the identity of Islamic scholarship and Bornean culture. However, there are still few student studies that discuss religious moderation in the context of West Kalimantan, both from the aspect of social dynamics and the realities of religious practices. In addition, there is limited integration of interpretive approaches with other disciplines such as fiqh, sufism, and socio-political studies. This research recommends strengthening the academic policy direction of the study program to encourage research that is more relevant to the needs of the local community, religious moderation, and the socio-religious dynamics of the West Kalimantan community.

Abstract

This study explores the use of animated films as a medium for internalizing moral values in Islamic elementary schools, specifically focusing on the implementation of the animated film Jumbo at MIS Al-Huda Haurwangi, Cianjur. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. The findings reveal that although the film was shown only once, it effectively engaged students and facilitated their understanding of moral values such as honesty, responsibility, politeness, and cooperation. Students demonstrated enthusiasm during the screening and were able to identify moral lessons through guided discussions led by the teacher. However, the study also highlights challenges, including limited technological infrastructure and the dependence on the teacher’s ability to facilitate reflection. Despite its single-session implementation, the animated film proved to be a promising alternative for moral education, particularly for younger students who benefit from concrete visual examples. The research recommends enhancing multimedia facilities in madrasahs and providing teacher training to maximize the potential of digital media in character education. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on innovative pedagogical tools in Islamic education and underscores the importance of contextualizing digital media within traditional learning frameworks.
