Abstract

Background & Objective: Anxiety is an emotional response that often arises in cancer patients before undergoing chemotherapy. High levels of anxiety can have a negative impact on the physiological and psychological condition of patients. Zikir therapy is one non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to help reduce anxiety through a spiritual approach. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of zikir therapy in reducing anxiety in colon cancer patients before undergoing chemotherapy in the HOT (Hematology Oncology Treatment) Room at RSD Gunung Jati Hospital in Cirebon City. Method: This study employed a qualitative approach with a case study design involving three patients experiencing anxiety prior to chemotherapy. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and assessments of vital signs before and after zikir therapy was administered. Result: The study results showed that after receiving zikir therapy, there was a reduction in anxiety symptoms and signs in all three patients, both subjectively and objectively. Patients felt calmer, blood pressure and heart rate decreased, and no longer appeared restless or pale. Conclusion: It can be concluded that zikir therapy is effective as a nursing intervention in reducing anxiety in colon cancer patients before undergoing chemotherapy.

Abstract

Background & Objective: Depression can arise due to increased stress factors and reduced adaptability in older adults. Its effects include decreased appetite, weight loss, digestive problems, and sleep disorders. On the other hand, the psychological effects that can be caused by depression include the risk of suicide. Progressive muscle relaxation therapy is carried out in stages. This helps reduce muscle tension caused by depression, so that the body becomes relaxed and the mind calm. ROP therapy activates the parasympathetic nervous system and regulates the hypothalamus to reduce stress signals, thereby reducing stress levels in the elderly, especially those experiencing depression. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effectiveness of progressive muscle relaxation in reducing depression levels in elderly people in the Muslim Nursing Home Work Area. Method: The research design was quasi-experimental, using a pre-post test single group design with a sample size of 15 respondents and purposive sampling according to the inclusion criteria. Depression levels were measured using the Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) instrument. The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. Result: The results showed that progressive muscle relaxation therapy was effective in reducing depression levels in the elderly with a p-value (0.002) < p-value (0.05). This means that progressive muscle relaxation therapy is effective in reducing depression levels in the elderly in the Muslim Nursing Home Work Area. Conclusion: Based on the results of the study, progressive muscle relaxation therapy is more effective in helping to reduce depression levels in the elderly. Progressive muscle relaxation therapy is beneficial for reducing depression in the elderly and is recommended as a non-pharmacological nursing therapy.

Abstract

Background & Objective: Hypertension is a common health issue among the elderly, with prevalence increasing as age advances. According to the WHO, approximately 1.13 billion people worldwide suffer from hypertension, with the elderly being the most vulnerable group. Poor hypertension management can lead to serious complications such as stroke, heart failure, and chronic kidney disease. Medication adherence is crucial in preventing such complications. However, elderly individuals with low educational attainment often struggle to understand medical instructions and the importance of consistent medication use. This study aims to analyze the relationship between education level and adherence to hypertension treatment among the elderly in the working area of Puskesmas Datah Kotou, Puruk Cahu. Method: This study used a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 30 elderly individuals diagnosed with hypertension. Data were collected using a questionnaire measuring education level and adherence, assessed through the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale (MMAS-8). Correlation analysis was used to evaluate the data. Result: A total of 83.3% of respondents had a low level of education (elementary school), and 63.3% showed low adherence to treatment. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between education level and treatment adherence, with a correlation coefficient of 0.691 and a p-value of 0.000. Conclusion: The study concludes that education level significantly affects the adherence of elderly individuals to hypertension treatment, highlighting the need for more effective health education interventions.
