Abstract

Mass media plays a fundamental role in influencing the society and their perceptions in daily life. The target audience by the media determines the how they frame their message and the subject matter that they focus on in their discussions. As mental illness is becoming one of the contemporary issues in the modern society, the role of mass media particularly how they define their target audience is not adequately explored. This is despite mental illness continuing to ravage the society, especially with the increased stigmatization. This study therefore sought to examine the how mass media target audience impact mental illness stigmatization in among students in Kenya Medical Training College. The study was anchored on the cognitive dissonance theory.  Using a descriptive research approach, the study through a questionnaire surveyed 384 students drawn from a population of 51045 students at the college. The data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics through SPSS. The findings revealed that mass media target audience through the reduced dissonance, acquisition of new information and cognitive actions significantly impacted the mental illness stigmatization. Through the beliefs towards the mentally ill persons as projected by the mass media to their target audience, the stigmatization of mentally ill persons either increased or decreased depending on the approach used by the mass media. The study concluded that mass media target audience was instrumental in determining the level of stigmatization of the mentally ill persons. It is therefore recommended that the mass media should define their target audience in a manner that positively changes their perceptions towards mental illness.

Abstract

The study sought to examine the relationship between customer relationship management and performance of firms listed at Nairobi Securities Exchange. While the listed firms remain integral in the country’s economy, their continued performance has been declining over the years. This has seen some of the firms get delisted and others suspended from trading due to subsequent years of loss-making. Customer relationship management on the other hand has been found to be instrumental in determining the performance of modern firms, in the midst of growing competition and dynamic operating environment. The motivation of this study was therefore the limited literature on the relationship between customer relationship management and performance of listed firms. The study utilized a descriptive-exploratory research design, where 240 senior management personnel drawn from the 64 listed firms were surveyed using a structured questionnaire. The data was analysed using SPSS and Amos software for descriptive statistics, regression model and structural equation modelling respectively. The findings revealed that customer relationship management had a significant influence on the performance of firms listed at the NSE (R2 = .265; β = 0.353; P=0.0001<0.05). It was therefore concluded that customer relationship management as a frim-level factor is instrumental in determining the performance of the listed firms at the NSE. The study recommended the need for the management of the listed firms to be at the forefront of pushing for enhanced customer relationship management so as to strengthen the firms performance.

Abstract

Monitoring is a necessary part of Home surveillance that can be done through the internet network as a security measure. Many CCTV cameras on the market today continue to employ analog and conventional technology, specifically coaxial wire. As a result, extra expenditures for CCTV system wiring are required; besides being more expensive, the installation takes more handling, as the picture data cable and control signal cable cannot be merged. This project aims to develop a security system capable of detecting object movement in real-time utilizing a webcam camera attached to a raspberry pi. The findings of this study enable the development of a low-cost CCTV system that can be monitored remotely via the Internet of Things.

Abstract

This paper delves into the multifaceted challenges posed by the intersection of infrastructure, education, and technology integration in the context of enriching the learning experience. Rather than displacing educators, technology is positioned as a valuable tool to augment learning, necessitating a nuanced approach. Universities are confronted with the complexities of E-Learning, prompting the adaptation of course structures to accommodate diverse educational needs. Consequently, educators adjust teaching styles, leading to heightened workloads that demand proactive management. The impact of E-Learning extends beyond individual classrooms, challenging traditional university frameworks and compelling institutions to reconsider physical facilities and lecture-centric methodologies. Anticipated benefits of E-Learning must be balanced with a thorough evaluation of its implications. Despite the widespread adoption of technology, some implementations need to be more actively engaging learners, functioning more as content repositories than dynamic learning environments. This underscores the importance of establishing a robust pedagogical foundation when embracing E-Learning, ensuring that technology aligns with, rather than supersedes, student progress and engagement objectives.
