Abstract

The use of learning material is crucial to the learning process. Teachers can communicate knowledge more effectively by using the appropriate media. However, many teachers continue to solely employ uninteresting material, which might negatively affect their students' motivation for studying. Therefore, innovative and fun learning resources, such as learning media containing play elements, are needed. The research aims to develop learning media on food material and digestive systems using Borg and Gall research development (RD) method. The research data was obtained from a product assessment questionnaire using a questionnaire. The research results obtained from the media expert test average score and material expert test were 85%, and the results from the student response test average score were 89%, categorized as very feasible to be used as student learning resources.

Abstract

Technology development in the world of education will affect the existing curriculum. Whether or not an education is successful depends largely on the curriculum used. The curriculum is the spearhead for the implementation of education. In a curriculum, there are various supporting aspects. One of them is the learning model. Various learning models have been tried to develop student's thinking skills, for example, using the medium of question cards. Playing question card media can trigger direct student involvement in learning to increase high-level thinking skills and motivation to be more active in studying. This research is a Collective Action Research (RAC) study. "activities of planning, acting, observing/evaluating, and reflecting." Students' HOTS ability before applying learning motivation with a class XI student support question card at one of the state high schools in Banten, which obtained an average of 63.89, was then used to calculate the average percentage to determine the level of students' HOTS ability. After an average percentage score of 63.89% is converted to a five-scale LAP, the student's pre-cycle HOTS ability level is relatively low (40-64). Based on data analysis and discussion of the research results that have been described, implementing learning to play question cards can increase student learning motivation and HOTS.

Abstract

Learning difficulties are obstacles or distractions experienced by students in learning activities that hinder the achievement of learning objectives. In this case, students have learning difficulties with genetic material. Genetics is the science that studies the inheritance of traits, similarities, and differences in traits inherited by living things or passed on from parents to their offspring. This material is one of the materials studied in Biology in class XII. This study aimed to analyze the learning difficulties of class XII students on genetics. This descriptive study aims to describe and determine the causes of learning difficulties on genetics for class XII students at one high school in Cibeber, Indonesia. The data collection technique in this study used a questionnaire with a sample of class XII students at a high school in Banten, Indonesia. Through the research that has been done, it can be concluded that students have student learning difficulties found in genetic material (chromosomes, genes, DNA, and RNA) and foreign concepts and terms found in the process of cell division and inheritance.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of the problem-based learning model on students' critical thinking skills in the digestive system concept. The samples in this study were taken using a simple random sampling technique with 28 samples, namely 14 students for the experimental class and 14 other students for the control class. The measured variable is students' critical thinking skills, which are obtained from the pretest-posttest results using the Kolmogorov Smirnov normality test, the One Way Anova homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing for learning outcomes using the Independent Sample T-test. The results of the t-test show a significant influence of the problem-based learning model on students' critical thinking skills, with a significance value of 0.001 0.05. This study concludes that the problem-based learning model has an effect on increasing students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze the implementation of bioinformatics learning in senior high school from research articles. A systematic review was conducted in this study and showed the findings of relevant studies about the implementation of bioinformatics learning in senior high school. Three journals used for a systematic review: PLOS Computational Biology, Briefing Bioinformatics, and CBE-Life Science Education. A total of nine papers were included in the systematic review from 166 articles screened by criteria; bioinformatics learning or bioinformatics education at the senior high school level, published from 2010 to 2019. The result of this study is the trend of learning outcomes of bioinformatics learning at senior high school is to increase cognitive or knowledge in the Biology field, especially molecular biology (67%). The trend for the type of assessment in bioinformatics learning at senior high school is the observation to assess the learning outcome (44%). The trend of contents in bioinformatics learning used Biology, computer science, and information technologies (100%). The trend of bioinformatics tools in bioinformatics learning at senior high school is BLAST (44%). The trend of teaching strategy to implement bioinformatics learning at senior high school is inquiry and problem-based learning (each teaching strategy is 22%). The last is the trend of the period in implementing bioinformatics learning at senior high school is three periods in each topic (33%). For further study, the trend of implementation of bioinformatics learning can be integrated to design the new framework for implementing bioinformatics learning at senior high school. These findings recommended that science teachers or science educators promote bioinformatics learning at senior high schools.
