Abstract

This research was supposed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Community Circle Strategy in enhancing students' English-speaking skills at MA Al Balagh. This research consists of 8 stages, including observation, pre-test examination at the second meeting, implementation of strategies, and post-test examination at the final meeting. The study was conducted on 24 students of class X at MA Al Balagh. The method employed was quantitative with a pre-experimental approach. Data from pre-tests and post-tests were examined for normality using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, indicating that the data were normally distributed. Further analysis utilized the T-test to determine significance (Sig.). The results of the T-test indicated that the significance value (p = 0.000) < ? (0.05), suggesting insufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis (H0), thus accepting the alternative hypothesis (Ha). This indicated a significant improvement in students' vocabulary mastery following the treatment. These findings affirm that employing the Community Circle Strategy was effective in enhancing students' speaking skills.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the image of a girl as reflected through the main character, namely Vanessa Wye, in the novel entitled My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russel. This research focuses on elaborating the kind of defense mechanisms that is used by the character in defense her life in future. In elaborating this case, the researcher applies Sigmund Freud's Psychoanalytic theory that focuses on defense mechanism through context-oriented approach. Therefore, this research attempts to seek the evidence in analyzing the issue by the sentence, narration, description and everything that are depicted in the novel to fulfill the adequate data in this research as well. Furthermore, the findings in this research points out that there are 10 kind of self-defense mechanism that is used by the main character named Vanessa as reflected in the novel, namely; denial, sublimation, reaction formation, displacement, intellectualization, regression, repression, rationalization, projection, and compartmentalization. The issue of defense mechanism in this novel begins from the representation of the relationship between Vanessa and Strane that had an unnatural love affair and abuse, which caused the young girl to have deep trauma due to the abuse, however, this love affair led to sexual harassment, it is suspected that many other victims after Vanessa experienced the same case as Strane. Vanessa was traumatized by this incident and tried to get up with the strength that was within her.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the depiction of married life and gender roles as reflected in selected Emily Dickinson’s poems entitled “I gave myself to Him”, “I'm wife I've finished that”, “She rose to his requirements dropped, “Title divine is mine!”, and “A wife at daybreak I shall be”. This research uses feminist theory which focuses on the liberal feminism that is formulated by Marry Wollstonecraft. While the approach of this research applies context oriented due to it analyze the context of marriage life and gender role that are implicitly told in those selected poems. The findings in this research points out that in marital life and gender roles as reflected in Emily Dickinson's selected poems describes problems in married life where the main principle of feminism is that women have been subordinate to men since the beginning of human encounters. These poems present sharp exploration of the complexities and challenges that can arise in a marriage.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pemahaman konsep siswa pada materi asam basa menggunakan tes diagnostik two-tier multiple choice. Penelitian ini melibatkan 135 siswa kelas XI dari 7 Madrasah Aliyah yang ada di Tangerang Selatan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa rata-rata pemahaman siswa pada materi asam basa terdiri dari 16% paham konsep, 33% miskonsepsi, dan 51% tidak paham konsep. Siswa mengalami miskonsepsi pada konsep teori asam basa, indikator asam basa, tetapan ionisasi asam basa (Ka/Kb), kekuatan asam (pH), perhitungan pH, dan konsep pH dalam lingkungan.

Abstract

Bahasa adalah aspek penting yang dapat disampaikan secara lisan maupun tertulis. Karya sastra merupakan salah satu dari bentuk bahasa tertulis yang sering digunakan untuk mengkaji struktur dan isinya. Penelitian ini menganalisis gaya bahasa dalam cerpen Balikui karya Putu Wijaya dengan pendekatan stilistika. Cerpen ini menceritakan pengalaman Wayan, seorang seniman Bali, menghadapi tantangan budaya dan identitas di Hunter College, New York. Analisis menemukan beberapa gaya bahasa, yaitu metafora (4 kutipan), personifikasi (2 kutipan), hiperbola (2 kutipan), idiom (2 kutipan), onomatope (1 kutipan), repetisi (1 kutipan), dan litotes (1 kutipan). Gaya bahasa dominan adalah metafora, personifikasi, hiperbola, dan idiom, yang memperkaya estetika cerita serta menyampaikan pesan secara mendalam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa fungsi gaya bahasa selain untuk memperindah karya sastra juga dapat membantu pembaca memahami karakter, alur, dan makna cerita. Pendekatan ini menyoroti peran penting gaya bahasa dalam membangun kekuatan narasi dan pesan dalam cerpen, serta memberikan wawasan mengenai kedalaman estetika karya sastra.
