Abstract

Road damage caused by landslides on the Sumedang–Cijelag section (Km.BDG 68+650) in March 2022 was rehabilitated by shifting the road alignment. This study aims to evaluate the feasibility and suitability of the horizontal alignment based on the 2021 Bina Marga Road Geometric Design Guidelines. The method used was quantitative with geometric data analysis of the primary collector road (2/2 UD) on flat terrain. The results showed that there were two Spiral-Circle-Spiral type curves with a shift of 0.87 m, each with a circle curve of 43.60 m and 29.99 m and a transition curve of 29 m, all of which met the standards. However, the stopping sight distance (28.42 m) and overtaking sight distance (213.44 m) did not meet the standards (50 m and 270 m, respectively), although the road conditions were still passable with attention to safety signs.

Abstract

Land conversion from green open space to residential areas reduces groundwater infiltration, while lack of maintenance of the drainage system leads to clogged channels. This study aims to evaluate the capacity of the residential drainage system in Cipicung Village, Banyuresmi Sub-district, to reduce flood risk using EPA SWMM 5.2. These floods not only cause economic losses but also disrupt daily activities and threaten the health and safety of residents. In this study, the method used was to process the maximum rainfall with the log person type III method and then tested with the chi-square and Smirnov-Kolmogorov methods. Furthermore, it calculates the rain intensity of the 5-year and 10-year return periods. Simulations use the EPA SWMM 5.2 application, to design drainage. The summary results of the EPA SWMM 5.2 application show that water overflow occurs. Overflow occurs in Channels 2 and 3 which have a peak overflow volume of 0.442 m3 / s with a duration of 4.52 hours and 0.340 m3 / s with a duration of 4.51 hours. So based on the results of trials by changing the dimensions of the channel, it can be concluded that Channels 2 and 3 are required to increase the dimensions of the existing cross section for the 5-year return period is 1.5 m x 1 m and in channel 3 is 1.2 m x 0.85 m. while for the 10-year return period is 1.7 m x 1 m and in channel 3 is 1.4 m x 0.85 m. The 10-year return period experienced an increase in discharge. The 10-year return period experienced an increase in planned discharge by 70%.

Abstract

Concrete is a construction material that has high compressive strength but relatively low tensile strength, so certain materials need to be added to increase its tensile strength. One method that has been widely developed in concrete technology is the use of fibers as additives. This study aims to determine the effect of adding steel wool fiber pieces on the splitting tensile strength of concrete at variations of 0%, 1%, 2%, and 3% of the total mixture weight. The concrete used had a planned strength of f'c 20 MPa with a test age of 28 days. The test specimens were cylinders with a diameter of 15 cm and a height of 30 cm, while the research method used was an experiment with a research duration of two months. The test results showed that normal concrete (0%) had a splitting tensile strength of 2.72 MPa. The addition of 1%, 2%, and 3% steel wool resulted in splitting tensile strengths of 1.87 MPa, 1.75 MPa, and 1.30 MPa, respectively. Overall, the results showed that the addition of steel wool fibers in the variations used tended to decrease the splitting tensile strength of the concrete.

Abstract

Tea waste is generally discarded and has not been optimally utilized, even though tea is one of the most popular beverages in Indonesia. In many cases, tea waste in the form of spent leaves and residual liquid is simply thrown away. One potential use of tea waste is as a soil additive for stabilization purposes. This study investigates the mixing of clay soil with tea waste. Chemical analysis under dry conditions indicates that tea waste contains polyphenolic compounds such as catechins and theaflavins, which possess antioxidant properties and can function as binding agents in composite construction materials. This research aims to examine the physical properties of clay soil with the addition of tea waste at proportions of 5%, 10%, and 15%. The study was conducted at the Civil Engineering Laboratory of the Institut Teknologi Garut, using clay soil obtained from Cintakarya Village, Garut Regency. The tea waste was collected from Sederhana Jaya 2 Restaurant. The methodology involved laboratory testing of soil physical properties, including water content, sieve analysis, liquid limit, shrinkage limit, plastic limit, specific gravity, and bulk density. The results show that the addition of tea waste affects the physical properties of clay soil, causing both decreases and increases in several parameters, with the most significant changes observed at the 15% proportion. Decreases were observed in water content (26.62%), fine particle fraction (36.03%), liquid limit (22.04%), shrinkage limit (12.49%), and plasticity index (30.97%). In contrast, increases occurred in bulk density (0.4 g), specific gravity (0.66 g), plastic limit (8.93%), and coarse particle fraction (36.83%).

Abstract

In the implementation of construction projects in Garut Regency, the role of human resources is critically important. Human resources are one of the main factors determining the success or failure of a construction project. Project quality and productivity are highly dependent on human resource aspects, namely competence, motivation, and work discipline of the workforce involved. This study aims to determine the extent to which competence, motivation, and work discipline influence the performance of construction project workers. The research employs a quantitative method, with multiple linear regression analysis as the analytical approach. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS version 29. The results of the partial t-test indicate that competence does not have a significant effect on worker performance (t-value 0.278 < t-table 2.056), while motivation has a significant effect on performance (t-value 3.292 > t-table 2.056), and work discipline also has a significant effect on performance (t-value 3.141 > t-table 2.056). Simultaneously, competence, motivation, and work discipline collectively have a significant influence on the performance of construction project workers.

Abstract

The population of water hyacinth in Situ Bagendit has grown rapidly, causing ecological impacts, including the coverage of the water surface that leads to a decline in aquatic ecosystem quality. On the other hand, dried water hyacinth contains compounds such as cellulose, lignin, and silica, which have potential for use as soil stabilization material. This study aims to evaluate the effect of adding water hyacinth powder on the physical properties of clay soil with mixture variations of 0%, 3%, 6%, and 9% by weight of the original soil. The experimental method includes water content testing, sieve analysis, liquid limit, plastic limit, shrinkage limit, specific gravity, bulk density, and compaction tests, all conducted at the Laboratory of the Garut Institute of Technology. The results show that the addition of water hyacinth powder causes significant changes in the physical properties of clay soil, with the most optimal effect occurring at the 9% mixture. Practically, these findings indicate that water hyacinth powder has the potential to be used as an environmentally friendly additive to improve subgrade soil characteristics, particularly for light construction applications and foundation improvement.

Abstract

Intersections involve continuous and crossing traffic movements, creating potential conflicts that require traffic control. This study aims to evaluate the performance of the Letjen Ibrahim Adjie–Rancabango unsignalized intersection in Tarogong Kaler District, Garut Regency, over the next 15 years and to address traffic problems at the location. The method includes the collection of primary data through vehicle volume surveys, road geometric data, as well as vehicle travel time and speed. The data were analyzed using the Indonesian Highway Capacity Guidelines (PKJI 2023). Secondary data consist of literature reviews related to the implementation of traffic management at intersections in other locations. Traffic performance modeling and evaluation were conducted using PTV Vissim Student Version simulation software. The analysis results show an intersection capacity of 2,880 pcu/hour during peak hours, with a Degree of Saturation (DS) of 0.97, classified as Level of Service E (stable flow with high interference), and an average delay of 13.89 seconds/pcu. PTV Vissim simulation recorded a vehicle volume of 279 vehicles and an average delay of 14.39 seconds/vehicle. One of the implemented solutions was a right-turn prohibition to reduce the degree of saturation and traffic delay. After implementation, the Degree of Saturation decreased to 0.74 (Level of Service C, more stable flow) with a delay of 8.41 seconds/pcu. The simulated vehicle volume was 230.5 vehicles with an average delay of 8.27 seconds/vehicle, indicating improved intersection performance. This study contributes technical recommendations that can serve as a basis for urban transportation planning and support traffic management policies in developing areas such as Garut Regency.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of adding corn husk waste powder on the physical properties of clay soil, which is known to have fine-grained characteristics and a high level of plasticity. The research was conducted experimentally in a laboratory by mixing corn husk powder waste into clay soil in three composition variations, namely 5%, 10%, and 15% of the soil’s dry weight. The physical properties of the soil examined included water content, unit weight, specific gravity, grain size distribution (sieve analysis), and soil consistency parameters such as liquid limit, plastic limit, and shrinkage limit. The results show that the addition of corn husk waste powder causes significant changes in most of the soil’s physical properties. Decreases were observed in water content, fine-grained fraction, liquid limit, shrinkage limit, and plasticity index. Meanwhile, increases occurred in unit weight, specific gravity, plastic limit, and the proportion of coarse grains. The mixture with a 15% composition produced the most substantial changes compared to the other compositions, indicating that an increase in corn husk content in clay soil is directly proportional to the magnitude of the changes. The contribution of this study lies in the utilization of agricultural waste, specifically corn husks, as an alternative material to improve the physical properties of clay soil. The results demonstrate potential applications in the field of geotechnical engineering, particularly for soil stabilization purposes, while also supporting a sustainable approach to organic waste management.
