Abstract

Industrial areas are characterized by high trip generation and attraction due to the daily routine mobility of workers. This condition requires an efficient transportation system and an understanding of mode choice behavior. This study aims to understand workers’ travel characteristics, identify the factors influencing mode choice decisions, and estimate the probability of choosing motorcycles, online transportation, and employee shuttle services through the application of the Multinomial Logit (MNL) model. The research data were obtained by distributing questionnaires to 100 workers in the Pabedilan Industrial Area, Cirebon Regency, using a revealed preference approach. The analyzed variables included travel cost, distance, and travel time. The analysis was conducted using SPSS software, with model testing through multicollinearity tests, likelihood ratio tests, parameter estimation, pseudo R-square, and goodness-of-fit tests. The analysis findings show that travel cost and distance have a significant influence on mode choice, while travel time does not have a significant effect. Motorcycles have the highest choice probability at 84.2 percent, followed by employee shuttle services at 15.8 percent, while online transportation has a very small or nearly zero probability, at 0.0 percent. Practically, the results of this study can serve as a basis for policymakers to increase the attractiveness of employee shuttle services through cost efficiency and route adjustments that better align with workers’ travel patterns.

Abstract

Cellular lightweight concrete (CLC) blocks are a type of non-structural wall material that has the potential to reduce a building’s dead load; however, their use still faces technical challenges due to low compressive strength and high water absorption. Palm oil fuel ash (POFA) derived from oil palm biomass waste has the potential to be used as a partial cement substitute. This study aims to evaluate the effect of POFA as a partial cement substitute at levels of 0–30% on the compressive strength and water absorption of CLC lightweight bricks. POFA was ground twice using a disc mill with a No. 200 sieve. Cube specimens measuring 50×50×50 mm were tested at 7 and 28 days of age under normal curing and steam curing conditions. The results showed that a 10% POFA substitution yielded the best performance, with a compressive strength of 3.53 MPa under normal curing at 28 days and 3.57 MPa under steam curing at 28 days. This mixture also produced the lowest water absorption, namely 21.58% and 1.66% under the same conditions. The highest strength activity index was also achieved with a 10% POFA substitution. These findings indicate that the use of 10% POFA is suitable for producing low-cement CLC lightweight bricks with better mechanical and absorption performance for sustainable non-structural wall applications.

Abstract

Roads are one of the transportation infrastructures that require maintenance according to the level of damage and handling priority. This study aims to assess surface conditions and determine the priority order for maintenance on the Kyai Ahmad Dahlan Road section, West Lombok Regency, by integrating the Surface Distress Index (SDI) and Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) methods. A field survey was conducted along 2.2 km of road, divided into 22 segments, each 100 meters long. The SDI method was used to assess surface damage based on cracks, potholes, and rutting, while AHP was used to assign weights to the criteria of SDI, traffic volume, land use, and road width. The analysis results show that SDI values ranged from 35 to 330, with road conditions varying from good to severely damaged. Low values indicate minor damage, while high values indicate the dominance of cracks, potholes, and deformation requiring serious treatment. The most critical segments were found at STA. 0+800–0+900, STA. 0+900–1+000, STA. 1+100–1+200, STA. 1+200–1+300, STA. 1+300–1+400, and STA. 1+500–1+600, with SDI values above 300. The AHP weighting produced an SDI weight of 0.6057, traffic volume of 0.2318, land use of 0.1104, and road width of 0.0521, with a Consistency Ratio of 0.0899, indicating that consistency was achieved. Based on the weighted assessment results, Segment 10 obtained a priority score of 0.9053 and ranked first, Segment 9 obtained a score of 0.9036 and ranked second, while Segment 14 obtained a score of 0.8755 and ranked third. Therefore, these three segments were designated as the main maintenance priorities. These findings confirm that the combination of SDI and AHP methods can produce a more accurate and comprehensive determination of road maintenance priorities.

Abstract

The Kebun Agung Road to Gunung Kapur segment in Samarinda City frequently experiences water ponding during periods of high rainfall intensity. This condition is caused by the existing drainage system not functioning optimally. Such conditions negatively affect traffic flow, road pavement structural integrity, and road user safety. This study aims to assess the capacity of the existing drainage channels to accommodate rainwater discharge. The approach used includes hydrological and hydraulic analysis. Rainfall data processing was carried out using the Gumbel Distribution and Log Pearson Type III Method to obtain design rainfall values, while design discharge was calculated using the Rational Method. Furthermore, channel capacity evaluation was conducted based on field measurements of channel dimensions, flow patterns, and physical channel conditions. The results show that the capacity of the existing drainage channel is 6.128 m³/s for the 2-year return period and 6.561 m³/s for the 5-year return period. These values indicate that the drainage channel is still capable of accommodating the design discharge. Nevertheless, adjustments to channel dimensions in several sections and routine maintenance are still required to prevent sedimentation and blockages that may reduce the flow capacity of the channel.

Abstract

Road construction in tourism areas is often constrained by subgrade soil with low bearing capacity, which may cause deformation and reduce pavement performance. This study evaluates the application of HP15040C-type geocell in the base course layer over subgrade soil in a tourism area in West Bandung Regency using field CBR parameters. The research method used a quantitative case study approach through field observation, geocell installation, and field CBR testing in accordance with SNI 1738:2011 on three test areas covering approximately +-3,700 m2. The initial subgrade condition had a laboratory CBR value of 1.70 percent, indicating low bearing capacity. The 10th percentile analysis results showed characteristic CBR values of 58.84 percent in Area 1, 56.67 percent in Area 2, and 66.11 percent in Area 3. In addition, 90 percent of the CBR data from uniform segments showed minimum values of 60.44 percent in Area 1, 63.08 percent in Area 2, and 66.11 percent in Area 3. The findings indicate that geocell is capable of improving base course performance, with Area 3 meeting the CBR >= 60 percent criterion, while Area 1 and Area 2 approached the required value due to variations in field conditions. This study can serve as an initial reference for the application of geocell on tourism area roads with low-bearing-capacity subgrade soil.

Abstract

The increase in population and vehicle numbers in West Lombok Regency has caused a decline in traffic performance, particularly at the Narmada Three-Legged Intersection, which has high commercial activity and side friction. This study aims to evaluate the existing intersection performance and analyze the effectiveness of traffic engineering measures in the form of road widening and the implementation of traffic signals (APILL). Data were obtained through geometric and traffic volume surveys conducted over three days at 15-minute intervals, then analyzed using PKJI 2023 and PTV Vissim simulation. The analysis results show that the existing intersection condition has a capacity of 3,453 passenger car units per hour (pcu/hour), a degree of saturation of 0.76, an average delay of 14.99 seconds, and a Level of Service category B. The scenario of widening the road by 2 meters on each intersection approach was able to increase capacity to 3,730 pcu/hour while reducing the degree of saturation and delay, thereby improving intersection performance. In contrast, the implementation of a three-phase traffic signal increased delay and queue length, with simulation results even showing a decline in Level of Service to category F. Based on the research findings, the most effective solution for improving the performance of the Narmada Three-Legged Intersection is road widening by 2 meters without implementing traffic signals.

Abstract

Concrete is a composite material consisting of Portland cement, water, fine aggregate, coarse aggregate, and specific admixtures formulated in predetermined proportions to produce concrete of a quality that meets specified requirements. The use of admixtures is a common approach to improving the mechanical properties of concrete, particularly compressive strength. In this study, a superplasticizer admixture was applied to a K-175 grade concrete mix. An experimental approach was implemented through a series of tests at the materials laboratory of the Medan State Polytechnic. The study samples consisted of normal concrete and concrete with an admixture addition of 1.5% by weight of the cement. Compressive strength testing was conducted at 28 days of curing. The results showed that the normal concrete had an average compressive strength of 13.07 MPa, while the concrete with the superplasticizer admixture reached 16.13 MPa, representing an increase of approximately 23.41%. Thus, the use of the admixture was proven to increase the concrete’s compressive strength by 3.06 MPa compared to concrete without the additive.

Abstract

The Tampang Lake Irrigation Area, located in Muara Enim Regency, South Sumatra Province, is a wetland region that is highly susceptible to flooding due to high rainfall intensity and relatively flat topography. This study aims to analyze the design flood hydrograph of the Lingkis River using the HEC-HMS hydrologic modeling software. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of rainfall analysis, Intensity–Duration–Frequency (IDF) curve analysis, the Alternating Block Method (ABM), and HEC-HMS simulation for a wetland irrigation area that has received limited attention in previous studies, particularly within the Tampang Lake Irrigation Area. The research methodology involved simulating flood hydrographs using HEC-HMS, with the simulation results serving as the basis for estimating the design flood discharge. The analysis indicates that the highest rainfall intensity occurred at a 10-minute duration with a 10-year return period, reaching 126.80 millimeters per hour. The HEC-HMS simulation produced peak flood discharges of 176.7 cubic meters per second with a runoff volume of 40.05 millimeters for the 2-year return period, 234.7 cubic meters per second with a runoff volume of 52.88 millimeters for the 5-year return period, and 274.1 cubic meters per second with a runoff volume of 61.56 millimeters for the 10-year return period. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the provision of reliable design flood discharge data to support the planning of wetland irrigation systems and flood mitigation efforts in the Tampang Lake Irrigation Area.

Abstract

Indonesia has a high level of earthquake risk due to the interaction of active tectonic plates. This condition requires structural building planning that strictly complies with earthquake-resistant design regulations. This study aims to analyze the structural response of buildings to earthquake loads using the equivalent lateral force method based on SNI 1726:2019. The research also aims to conduct simulation and static analysis of a two-story building structure using ETABS and SAP2000 software in order to compare the results of inter-story drift, base shear calculations, and structural responses to earthquake loads. The comparison of the two software programs is intended to help verify whether the outputs, such as inter-story drift and base shear, show consistent patterns. The research method was carried out through three-dimensional structural modeling using the same parameters in both ETABS and SAP2000. Earthquake loading was calculated using the equivalent lateral force method. The results show that both software programs produce similar earthquake force distribution patterns; however, there are differences in the values of inter-story drift and base shear. The maximum inter-story drift produced by SAP2000 was 0.018055 m, while the maximum drift produced by ETABS was 0.014685 m. This indicates that SAP2000 generated a larger inter-story drift value compared to ETABS, with a percentage difference of 0.86%. Meanwhile, for the base shear values, both software programs also showed differences, where SAP2000 produced a base shear of 1753.734 kN, while ETABS produced a base shear of 1841.7433 kN. In this case, ETABS generated a larger base shear value compared to SAP2000, with a percentage difference of 0.95%. These differences are influenced by numerical assumptions and analysis parameter settings in each application. In general, the analysis results are still within the tolerance limits permitted by the standards.
